We have all heard Vaughn's supposed budget for Thor is around 300 million which I think is ludicrous would Marvel be better off doing this Green screen ala 300?Let me make one thing clear I am not suggesting Thor be CGI or motion capture but think of all the rest! This would cut the budget down considerably. My only fear is that if so much is spent on Thor and it doesn’t make it back this would mean an end to any further movies? Anyone remember a little film called Howard the duck? What are your thoughts? :im:

No, at least I don't think so. Remember Thor has to easily blend into the Avengers. I think this would be easier to do if they all inhabit the same kind of world.

Would it be cool? Hell yeah. But, there's a part of me that asks, how would Thor then blend into Avengers? Could be done maybe, just some hesitation because they all have to blend together and inhabit the same universe.

Well if it is all down via greenscreen, visually it will have a look distinct from Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Ant-Man, and ultimately the Avengers... For me that doesn't bode well as far as consistency goes.

It just be very weird to jump from a surreal, saturated 300 type environment and then switch it too normal for the Avengers movie... I wouldn't want it being explained as "oh well this is how Asgard is, it is so mystical your perception changes..."

It would hardly be better then making this an epic cartoon about Thor and having him convert to live action for the Avengers.

Maybe if they had him in Asgard at all they could do it like that... but when he's in modern time and in the Marvel Universe he has to feel like the rest.

I think a "different look" is an excellent idea, ESPECIALLY if the film takes place in Asgard.

It would kind of give off an "other-worldly" vibe, so to speak.

Other worldly, but at one point all of the characters have to inhabit the same world which brings into question would it mix well.

Different look, alright, but I difinitely want it shot on location and huge sets both with cgi extensions.

All green-screen is for movies like Sin City and Sky Captain blah blah blah where you have a lot of technology and buildings. You know, not lush forests and huge plains with mountains in the background. Some shots will have to be mostly green-screen, but this one I want done LOTR-style.
But yeah, give it a stylized look like it's otherwordly ancient.

I don't think it's a problem. When I die do I expect Heaven to look like Earth? No. Asgard is a place of Myth and fantasy, and should have that look and scope. If Thor comes out looking like a bad set from Xena, I'll be pissed. CG is the way to go to save cash and make it look great. It doesn't have to look as stylized as 300. It could seamlessly blend real sets with cgi backdrops.

I dunno. Maybe it could work. But then I'd almost rather have it fully cgi'd. Then they'd kill the problem with finding the right THOR-"actor" and how to approach alotta fx-shots, like Odin's 8-legged horse, sleipner.
But it shouldn't be done with "photorealistic" Beowulf-style, but more like the World of Warcraft video-sequnces. More classical "cartoon" style.
Something like this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=omDYiyrU7Hs

I don't know. I think the way in which CGI is used in 300 makes the movie feel hollow (for lack of a better word), and I don't want that for Thor.

Maybe. It'd have to an amazing screenplay to back up the visuals, otherwise they take over the film completely.

I was somewhat blown away by the WOW-videos and they didn't have much storys in them. So if there's a good story, then that'd be even better, hehe.

As it sounds like a Broken Record the Rami Herc show had a GREAT looking Asgard, he did it on a low budget, can you imagine what he could do with a movie budget?
Even the Music for the two episodes were great.

Agreed.

:)

Thor needs to be visually stimulating and appealing, 300 was just that.

While I love 300, there wasn't much of a story. And the visuals kept that film afloat. Thor needs to be different, I think.

300/lotr is what Vaughn said he was shooting for. Just hope they can achieve the right look for Asgard.
MAN I wish we had more on this!

Patience, young viking. :cwink:
lol Cap, with Thor's comic, ages of Thunder and the upcoming Thor/SI there's PLENTY to keep me busy. lol
Hey we waited TWO years for Thor to make his thunderous return. I'd say he's made it back and then some.
We also have the Son of Asgard coming in Sep 2009. :D

I think that's a great idea: making Asgard scenes like 300, then switch to modern setting when he went to present-day Earth.

Well Thor's movie taking place in the past doesn't really make it to confusing with the Avenger's time-period.
It is covered well enough in the script, that Thor would be around untill today. Not sure if the script changes altered alot from What I've seen. tho.
