Siege Ends The Avengers

God, Donna Troy is awesome. :O

It's too bad her awesomeness is slightly marred by the fact that she was the only one to have been killed by Brainiac 8. :p

... what does this have to do with The Avengers?

I saw this image and i thought i'd share. Its from Iron Man and the latest Captain America Reborn:

Are these two connected?

War of the Worlds tri-pod thingys attack?

And is that Cable lying amongst the wreckage there?

Nope, that's Bucky back in his Winter Soldier gear.

It looks like Marvel's got their next event lined up, even though they said SIEGE was the last one for a while.:whatever:

They say this as they set up "DoomWar".

From what I've read, Doom War isn't going to be an event on the same level as SIEGE, Secret Invasion, Civil War, ect. The only heroes making appearances are Black Panther (who's monthly is going on hiatus during Doom War just like Captain America did during Reborn), FF, Wolverine and Deadpool. Cap, Iron Man, Spidey, and the Avengers won't be in it.

What intrigues me most is the guy that looks like he's holding Thor's hammer in the distance. Perhaps one of Earth's villains is behind it all?

Good point, I've didn't make this connection, if Thor gets a vision that has World of the War aliens in it, then it's definitely something Avenger's related in the future. Possibly Avengers vs. War of the Worlds, :awesome::doh:

It's a bit redundant to have Spider-Man and Beast on the same team, since they're equally agile but Pete is way stronger. It's redundant to have Cap and Thor on the same team, because they both have military experience and Thor is more powerful. The fact is that, as long as it's organized properly, redundancies are good for the types of situations super hero teams face. During combat situations, natural disasters, and other catastrophes, you want as much manpower as you can get and you want groups of specialists in certain areas to be able to pool their resources.

The Cap/Thor argument doesn't really fly. I understand your point but it doesn't wash. There are plenty of things Cap can do that Thor can't, such as lead the Avengers long term. Out of the "big three", Thor was usually always the first to leave the team for whatever was happening in his own mythical life.

Aside for guns, Ken Hale and Beast are practically the same guy, powers wise. Beast would probably be stronger/smarter, although Hale probably has more experience, having been active since the 1950's and all.

It's a moot point. I doubt that picture is an actual team roster. I think it's just a poster of characters, some of whom are Avengers, but others representing other areas of Marvel. Hale represents the Agents. Beast represents the X-Men. Black Widow represents "Marvel Women", which is some gimmick they're doing this year to spotlight female writers writing female characters (the best way to be inclusive; make a spectacle of it like it is rare). The other characters represent their own titles as well as the Avengers; Hawkeye is really the only one of them without his own title. Even Black Widow will be gaining one soon.

Now, now. If anyone can pull it off, it's Ben.

He was the Kevin Bacon of the Marvel U for years. About a third of 616 continuity for non title characters came from either Marvel Two in One or Team Up. Ben was everywhere and it didn't seem to interfere with his time on the FF. At least until Byrne got a ***** for She-Hulk.

And even then when he flirted with the West Coast Avengers, everyone was drooling over the possibilities. Even the characters were ready for it. Hawkeye chief among them. That lineup rocked.

Anywho, I don't think Ben on the team would be much like when Reed and Sue did their stint. Let's face it. Ben fits an All-Star Team way better than Mr. and Mrs. Richards.

Ben could do it and not lose a step.

:thing: :thing: :thing:

I wasn't trying to knock on the Thing. Out of the Fantastic Four he's probably the break-out star. Mark Waid once called him "the most fleshed character of the Marvel Universe" for a DVD interview. He's the only one of the Four who has had extensive solo or team up adventures for any length of time, beyond Human Torch in the 60's. Hell, if JLA/AVENGERS is canon (which, according to the Handbook, it sort of is), then Thing even met Batman.

I just don't think this is any sort of actual team roster, and I don't think Marvel wants to mingle the Four with the Avengers. I mean hell, they wouldn't even let Dan Slott have Beast. Not even Brian Bendis, the Rasputin of the Marvel editorial leadership (the writer who can call shots like an editor, but no editor admits it), could get Magneto for his Cabal.

Why not Dr. Pym.

Is Jean Grey the only character allowed to use their name as their superhero identity? :p

Yes.

The funny thing is Pym calls himself Wasp now to everyone who will hear him, but even narration captions make sure to call him by his name first. I prefer Dr. Pym myself.

That had me wondering if it was almost a visual metaphor for SIEGE.

Why is it bad to have two super smart ape-men? You have double the resources in the super smart ape-men department.

Could the tri-pods be from the same future the Guardians of the Galaxy encountered when the Fault put the future in flux?

That'd be interesting to have the cosmic and heroic stuff meet like that, for sure.

I doubt it. I think this is a genuine look at the future and someone might get their hands on Mjolnir.

I hear ya......but WHAT IF?:cwink:, [BLACKOUT]The Sentry[/BLACKOUT] got his hands on Mjolnir at the end of SIEGE?

Most teams only need one super smart ape man. Functionally, Ken Hale isn't "super smart". The smart guy on the Agents team is Bob Grayson/The Uranian. Hale is more the wise cracking bad ass of the group. As for Beast, it really depends on writer mood. He's been a wise-cracking fighter as well as a boring, doting doctor/lab tech. He tends to be the former with the Avengers and the latter with the X-Men.

I remember the Image series WILDGUARD had a subplot about this in a later one shot. The main heroine, who is a pryotechnic, felt useless because there was also Freezerburn on the team (voted there via internet poll), who could project fire as well as ice. The team mentor gives this big speech about how teams don't work that way, but guess what? The issue ends with the heroine starting to learn how to fly, which sort of debunks the argument. Being a flier doesn't make you redundant.

Gorilla Man and Beast fighting in X-MEN VS. AOA was cool. Them teaming up now and again is fine. But a monthly roster would be redundant.

It's a moot argument anyway. The HEROIC AGE image wasn't supposed to depict an actual team, I am fairly certain. Just a group of characters (cool ones) standing together.

I was curious about this as well. If Marvel wants to integrate the space books into their main line more, the Fault is great fodder for it.

Yea whilst I do love the cosmic side of the MU being in it's own... space (HAR HAR) it would be cool to see the events actually come to Earth this time. I mean Earth avoided the Annihilation Wave and the Phalanx attacks and Vulcans reign... could Earth avoid what the Fault brings?

I think that the Cosmic heroes and Earth's heroes have been on a collision course for a while. It's time for them to cross-over.
