ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that Michael J. Bassett(Solomon Kane) will direct Silent Hill: Revelations, which will be released in 3D

"Revelations" focuses on a protagonist named Heather Mason who, on the eve of her 18th birthday, is plagued by nightmares and now has to investigate the disappearance of her father.

The first film, directed by Christophe Gans and starring Radha Mitchell, earned $97.6 million at the worldwide box office.

Can't wait. I'm one of the fans who actually enjoyed the first film and consider it a good video game adaptation.

me too, i found the movie so creepy and intriguing, especially the music. it looks amazing on blu-ray too. i've been eagerly awaiting a sequel so i hope it has some kind of connection to the first

First movie was okay, and Bassett directed the awesome Solomon Kane, so this could be good.

First movie didnt feel as claustrophobic and creepy as the game. Part of the problem for me was too much CG. I wish they had gone a little more practical with the blood and other effects.

Loved the first film. Really looking forward to this, could do without the 3d though. Sigh.

The first one was all right but I felt it went down hill after the first hour.

First movie was good but had many areas for improvement. Hopefully this will do it justice.

If they do better with the story, but keep/ make even better visuals, then I have faith in the project. I didn't love the Silent Hill movie, because it too is completely set differently than the games it is based on, with characters that mean things (Dahlia being one of the "villians" not misunderstood like the movie portrayed, pyramid head, the actual reason for Alessa being what she was). I'm all for reimaginings (Shattered Memories), but the movie just didn't do it for me. It is one of the better game movies, and I still do like it, if only for the fact they got the visuals and got what the town of Silent Hill should look like.

The first one had the visuals down but I felt it was pretty lame as a movie. I'll only see this one if it seems promising.

^ Pretty much my thoughts. As a fairly new Silent Hill fan, I'm leery of this movie. But if it looks good I'll give it a chance.

Check out an official press release for the just announced Silent Hill: Revelation 3D:

The film will be directed by Michael J. Bassett in Toronto this winter. The producers are Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody, who also did Resident Evil: Afterlife.
Fresh off their $270M+ box office sensation Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, producers Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody have re-teamed to create Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, which is currently in pre-production. Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will also reunite Davis Films producer Hadida with Michael J. Bassett (Deathwatch, Solomon Kane), who will direct the 3D film on location this winter in the Toronto area. International sales are being handled by Lionsgate at the upcoming AFM.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, based on the acclaimed survival horror videogame franchise by KONAMI , is a sequel to Hadida and Carmody's earlier collaboration, Christophe Gans' Silent Hill. For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

Hadida said: "We have high expectations for this continuation of the franchise with our reunited Silent Hill production team. Michael was our natural choice to write and direct. He understands the genre, is passionate about the Silent Hill franchise, and will bring his considerable action picture skills to a fresh and thrilling insight of the Silent Hill 3D world."

Hadida noted further, "We are especially excited about our renewed collaboration with KONAMI. KONAMI'S sustained success with the seven video games published to date is unique testament to the ongoing appeal of this property".

Carmody added: "Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, Paranormal Activity 2, and Saw 3D show that global audiences have a continued thirst for the horror action genre. Silent Hill, like Resident Evil before it, is a beloved videogame, now becomes a successful film franchise that both encompasses and transcends the game world."

"We are pleased to partner with Samuel and Don again to bring a new Silent Hill experience to the silver screen." Said Careen Yapp, Vice President of KONAMI . Just as the franchise has evolved, we're confident Silent Hill Revelation 3D will bring a new Silent Hill story that is both frightening and engaging. Their sensitivity to our loyal, avid, global community of fans will make for an amazing 3D experience!"

Hadida and Carmody most recently produced Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D starring Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, and Wentworth Miller. Past collaborations include Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane marked screenwriter and director Michael J. Bassett's last feature film. He made his debut with Deathwatch, an atmospheric horror movie set in the trenches of World War I which starred Jamie Bell and Andy Serkis.

How much do you want to bet that Pyramid Head will return for the "cool" factor?

Pyramid Head was supposed to be James Sunderland's demon/fear wasn't he? If so they already ignored that with the first film so I can see Pyramid Head returning as just some kind of executioner monster in Silent Hill.

They pretty much had zero meaning behind any of the monsters in the first film aside from the rapist Janitor turning into a tied up monster that can't touch himself anymore. The Nurses originally had meanings like in Silent Hill 2 they were there to show Sunderland's anxieties about his wifes terminal illness and they usually show up to represent sexual anxiety or fear of hospitals in characters. But in the film they were there just because.

LEAVING ON A JET PLANE

Okay now, finally it’s getting more exciting. Bags are packed and tomorrow I’m heading out to begin some serious work on this puppy. Doesn’t mean anything’s getting greenlit but it does mean that I’m going to be on the ground, on the right continent and putting together a team of people who can make this thing happen. Some old friends and some new faces who will share the passion and enthusiasm I have for making a truly special film. No one can ever tell how a film will turn out, so any predictions for success or failure are entirely pointless but I’m looking forward to the adventure.

As far as I can, without giving too much away, I’ll keep this blog going. It ain’t all going to be Silent Hill but it might get mentioned now and again.

Update; actually writing this ON the jet plane. Testing the iPhone WordPress app. BA plane – a little shabby to be honest. A worrying trend with so many British institutions. Ah well, settling down with some in-flight movies.

Basset also took recently casting suggestions for Heather and Claudia on his blog.

I figured you might be here, considering were the two biggest fan's of Solomon Kane on the Hype. :cwink:

Hopefully there's some story this time around, I've never actually played the games (more of a Resident Evil/Dino Crisis fan myself) but it does have an intruiging idea.

Maybe he can fit James Purefoy in there somewhere?

This does not sit well with me so far. The poeple behind RE are doing SH?

And unknowns are ruled out:

CASTING HEATHER
I notice quite a few casting suggestions for Heather in the comments. Clearly this is a crucial decision and one that I’m not going to make lightly as I need a real performance at the heart of this story. However, I am interested in who you guys and girls might see in the role and since I’m only just starting that process now, I’m not averse to seeing some suggestions.

A few rules though as I don’t want this to be a free-for-all:

1) Has to be a known actress with existing credits.

2) Has to be able to realistically play 18 years old. You all know how the character is supposed to look. I’m not slavishly going to be led by the pixels but it’s a good starting point. Talent is more important.

3) Just the name. No long explanations or rationalizations. Just the name. You can include the link to their IMDB page. If they haven’t got an IMDB page then they’re not a candidate.

4) I’m not going to get into any response or comments about the ideas but I will look at everyone. Deviations from the above will be deleted.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUGGESTIONS EVERYONE, COMMENTS ON THIS NOW CLOSED

I have a feeling this is going to be more formulaic than artistic. It makes sense from a business standpoint I guess, but....blah so far.

not being incredibly familiar with the games, I greatly enjoyed the first movie. I thought it had a pretty unique atmosphere (in comparison to other horror movies) and all the monsters were cool and unnerving. I found it refreshing to see a horror flick that focused on atmosphere and more subtle nuances than **** and gore. While I didn't particularly think the ending was worthy of the rest of the movie, I still enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing what a sequel brings.

Ha ha, was mainly trying to see if there was any Solomon Kane 2 news!

i am an avid fan of the original movie and i know it was almost nothing like the games but i LOVED it.

Its one of my faves, and this 3D business from the RE guys makes me sad. this will probably have lots of explosions and bullet time. :(

Davis Films sent over a press release today saying Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Kit Harington (HBO's upcoming "Game of Thrones") will lead the film which follows Heather Mason (Clemens) on the eve of her 18th birthday as she's still plagued by the nightmares of her father's disappearance and slowly begins to learn that she may not be who she thought she was.The sudden revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.
