Silver Surfer in USA Today TOMORROW!

. . . or . . .

He gets the pupils and becomes more "mortal" after Doom steals his power.

Or- It depends on whether he's in an airless or intense environment or not...Like an inner eye lid kinda thing...

Can someone do a manip of that pic and put a Santa Hat on the Surfer somehow. I realize we can't see the top of his head but the effect should be possible with someone who knows how to do it. I'll send it to doug to put on his site and hellmistress.

Not having pupils made him cool?

Sure it adds to his look... but having eyes isn't going to detract from the character. Take away the silver skin and the board... and then you lose your character. Take away irises and pupils? Nah.

And the surfer was cold and aloof at his first meeting with the 4... but after that first encounter with Alicia... his emotions resurfaced. The entire Lee-Buscema run had him emoting all over the place. The understanding of his emotions and those of the people around him is where his character thrives.

Ah, but this isn't the retro-origined Buscema-Lee collaboration. This is the genesis of the character who had an alien nobility to him. Not the theatrical angst of a character that got his own book. I loved Buscema's and Stan's take on the character but I hear Jack never liked it and it's not what he intended it to be.

I still say going with Kirby's version is the way to go. And, I still say he wasn't drawn with pupils, I don't want to see them. (Ironic,...they can articulate pupils, but not a heavy Thing brow.) It takes away to be so clever (all you CGI artist..."look what we can do") and add something that doesn't need to be there.

Less is more in this case.

The pupils might have been releaed first to show that...this was really Doug Jones in there and not some pure CGI drawing. Zoom in...they look pretty darn real with eyelashes too.

Good point.

Also it seems like I remember some artists drawing him with varying degrees of "glowing" in his eyes depending on his mood. It could be some variation of that.

. . . but since it's the same pose with different renderings it's probably just design variations they were playing with.

They may also have thought the eyeless variation would have freaked out the general audiences who read USA today. Reminiscent of when they air-brushed out Spock's ears in the original Star Trek promo photos.

New and improved image of the Surfer has been released:

I think the Silver Surfer looks better than what I imagined....I'm not sure why there are those that compare it to the T1000....to me the CGI for that was much more liquid looking.....the SS seems to flow, not necessarily run....if that makes sense....lol

Mattc: Unfortunately I can't view pics while at work......:csad:

Heads up Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer fans! 20th Century Fox has provided Comics2Film with the an updated version of that first Silver Surfer surfer image that zipped around the web last month.
So what's new? Look at the eyes and compare with the previous version. Looks a bit more like the comics now.

They got rid of the pupils. Rothman said they would remain faithful to the original design, and looks like they are doing it.

I noticed as well. Interesting. Not sure which I like better.

You know it absolutly amazes me. People ***** and complain about staying true to the original, and Fox goes ahead and remains true to the original, and people say, I don't know which I like better. :whatever: And by the way I voted fantastic.

Hey Carpman that's old news. That was the same image on the official site. The offical site always had no pupils but the USA version had'em.

^ I give up. :)

I wonder how the hell they're gonna do Galactus in this film. Will we just see the Silver Surfer through Galactus' eyes to understand that he is there...but not see him till the very end in full form...or not till FF3??? Honeslty I'd think they'd have to change his look or modernize him a bit somehow.
