Miller on Sin City 2 and The Spirit
Source: Scott Chitwood July 27, 2007

At Comic-Con's 300 DVD panel, a question was asked about Sin City 2 and The Spirit, which will be directed by Frank Miller.

Miller revealed that Sin City 2 has been delayed due to issues apparently involving the Weinsteins. Miller and Robert Rodriguez have a script ready and it will be an adaptation of "A Dame to Kill for" and other short stories.

The Spirit is progressing and Miller said he's in the process of finishing writing. They're going to Albuquerque to begin shooting soon.

He...he....HE MADE ME WAAAAAAAAATTTTTCCCCHHHHHHHHHHH!

I doubt it'll even be made until I hear they've entered principal production. Rob has been saying for the past 2 years that Frank's been working on a script and he's getting the cast together...then nothing.

Nothing is looking good for this film. The original production start is pretty much gone. Robert is doing Barbarella and Frank; The Spirit. :wow:

I have the chance to interview Robert and Rosairio Dawson at an awards show tomorrow, is there anything specific I should ask them?

Cause the Weinstiens are being jerks..."Grindhouse bombed so F you on Sin City" is basically what it is.

which ****ing sucks, that movie was destined to bomb with female leads. that and it has nothing to do with sin city.

THIS IS THE LATEST INTERVIEW FRANK MILLER HAS GIVEN ON SIN CITY2!_________________________________________________________________

Marv died in "Sin City" — but that doesn't mean Mickey Rourke won't be back for the sequel.

Ditto for Dwight (Clive Owen), Shellie (Brittany Murphy), Nancy (Jessica Alba), Manute (Michael Clarke Duncan), Gail (Rosario Dawson) and the rest of the Old Town gang.

That's because "Sin City" is the "Pulp Fiction" of comic-book adaptations — since the interlinking stories aren't linear, when it comes time for the next installment in theaters, you'll get a prequel and a sequel at the same time.

"It jumps around a bit," writer/co-director Frank Miller said, "but mostly it's one story, incorporating some short stories that weave in and out of that."

Miller, who wrote and illustrated the hard-boiled graphic-novel series the films are based on, said he is "well in progress" on the screenplay for "Sin City 2" and anticipates that he and co-director Robert Rodriguez should be shooting as early as June in Austin, Texas.

The first "Sin City" took its stories from the first, third and fourth books — "The Hard Goodbye," "The Big Fat Kill" and "That Yellow Bastard." This next one will jump back in the sequence and derive most of its story from the second book, "A Dame to Kill For." But even though it's the second book, the action is set before book one, developing Dwight's past, loves, lusts and alliances.

Before Marv sleeps with Goldie, before Detective Hartigan finds skinny little Nancy all grown up and dancing at a strip joint, Dwight has a love affair with Ava, who leaves him to marry someone wealthy. Four years later, Ava's back, claiming the marriage is no good, and asking Dwight to help her out. This being "Sin City," you know there's more to the story than that.

Miller is also toying with incorporating "Blue Eyes," a short story that introduces the assassin Delia. The chain of events helps set up "The Hard Goodbye" and "The Big Fat Kill" in the original film, but what about what happens next? Miller is also writing a new story that'll explore what happens to Nancy after Hartigan's suicide. "Yeah, there will be surprises, but they wouldn't be surprises if I told you, would they?" Miller said.

The stories are also going to be as graphic as the first "Sin City" film — graphic in violence as well as style, showcasing the fully digital live action that made the film one of the most faithful comic adaptations yet to hit the screen. "My drawings were up on a special monitor, where they would move the camera to match my compositions," Miller explained.

That's what made him sign on for a sequel, due in 2007, as well as more to follow (see " 'Sin City' Co-Directors Working On Sequels, Eyeing A Tarantino Replacement").

Bump!

Now Alba is preggers... when are they going to film this? :(

Never....this film is lost hope.

All we can do is enjoy the first, it's become a cult classic already.

I don't think we'll be seeing a sequel in the near future. Now all I can do is wait for the ****ing Sin City Blu-Ray release if that would EVER HAPPEN!!! :cmad:

So is the sequel not happening anymore or something? The movie made a profit both at the BO and on DVD, so i dont see why it keeps getting held up.

The first movie is not a cult classic since it was so successful.

who says it's not happening? granted.. it's been quite a while. my patience level won't be receiving any awards anytime soon, but i'm not throwing in the towel just yet, either. through various and numerous web alerts, we've heard parts have already been filmed.. who knows? evidently, there seems to be no rush. i'm just waiting to find out something to put up for Mickey's fans to see.

Grindhouse resulted in a massive money loss for the Weinstein company. I don't think they're ready to invest another heep of cash in Rob. At least what I think, anyway.

Not entirely true the way that game works is if a movie tanks like Grindhuse (even though I LOVED IT) then does well on dvd to return the investment with a little extra more money will be made, besides the reaosn Grindhouse did poorly was it released on good friday when everyone had the day off and took their kids 2 see a movie. that and people have no idea what a good movie is.
Sin City 2 should be made but alas I fear it is infact a lost hope (Much like the Machete movie)

Sin City seemed like one of those films that should just stay that way and have no sequels.
