That's pretty much how I feel about it. I was pleasantly surprised to find my voting precinct still using the punch-card system this last election.

actually, the media hasn't been silent, that would mean that it's somehow democrat bought or something, which I think we both know it's not, else they wouldn't have played that Kerry soundbite like it was the only soundbite ever produced in the universe.
concerns over electronic voting are legit, and they are as legit now as they will be in 08 the capacity for tampering with votes is too great and no matter who ends up on the winning side (your guys or the other guys) the real winner is whoever has the money and resources to tip the elections in favor of his interests.

The debate is not over who rigged what. We could discuss that all day. The debate is whether or not electronic voting is something to be concerned about and whether it could lead to a fraudulent election. Certain precincts this year used punchcards...even some I've heard have used paper ballots (like abscentee ballots to protest e-voting).

That's really the issue here, is how fool proof is the voting method. I'd imagine there is some way to utilize this technology without having to worry about tampering...or at least make it hard enough that people would not bother.
