Singer John Mayer Breaks Down on Stage

The same day he apologized for using the N-word and blabbing about his sexcapades with Jessica Simpson in Playboy, John Mayer broke down on stage.

While performing his tune "Gravity" Wednesday at Nashville's Sommet Center, Mayer, 32, stopped playing and apologized to his bandmates, some of whom were African-American.

"In the quest to be clever," he began, "I completely forgot about the people that I love and that love me."

He then said that he had entered a world of "selfishness and greediness and arrogance." He said that he thought if he could just be "speedy and witty and pull together as many fast words and phrases as I could, that I would be clever enough to buy myself another day without anybody pinning me down and saying, 'You're a creep.'

"I should have just given that up and played the guitar," he went on. "I didn't. So I decided I would try to be as clever as possible all the time, and I did that at the expense of people that I love and that feels absolutely terrible.

"I think it's important that you know that everybody on this stage is here playing with me not because they condone what I say in any interview ... they're on this stage because they support myself as a possible future grown-up," he continued as the audience cheered.

Mayer then got choked up.

With his voice cracking, he told the crowd, "And maybe they see something that I don't. So maybe I need to take a break from trying to be clever and spend a little time looking at what they see -- because they've done an unbelievable thing by standing on this stage and standing by my side playing tonight.

"It's just not worth being clever," he said, adding: "I quit the media game. I'm out. I'm done. I just want to play my guitar."

I guess the fallout from his Playboy interview is getting to him. Well, he's 32, so you can't say that he's young and clueless, just dumb.

A lot of people don't get Mayer's self-humor. He acts cocky and overtly witty on purpose. It's nothing serious at all. I remember a little while ago he gave an interview to a very popular radio station here in the city, and he acted like a complete jackass to everyone. But everyone was laughing the entire time, because they understood his sarcasm.

He shouldn't have to change his persona because people are too sensitive and/or cannot comprehend humor, but at least it's recognition in maturity.

I'd heard about his interview, and I thought it was funny. Mayer's saying and doing crazy crap all the time. If I liked the man's music, I'd be a fan.

I read somewhere that his addiction to twitter was part of the reason Jennifer Aniston broke it off with him.

It reminded me of when I read that Andy Murray's girlfriend dumped him because he was addicted to video games.

"I don't think I open myself to it," Mayer said of dating black women. "My d--- is sort of like a white supremacist. I've got a Benetton heart and a f-----' David Duke c---. I'm going to start dating separately from my d---."

Yet Mayer also spoke about "why black people love me."

"Someone asked me the other day, 'What does it feel like now to have a 'hood pass?' " he told Playboy. "And by the way, it's sort of a contradiction in terms, because if you really had a 'hood pass, you could call it a n---a pass. Why are you pulling a punch and calling it a 'hood pass if you really have a 'hood pass? But I said, 'I can't really have a 'hood pass.' I've never walked into a restaurant, asked for a table and been told, 'We're full.' "

He should stick to playing ****** music.

Seriously If it wasn't for this dude being in the gossip rags for dating hollywood A-listers I wouldn't know who this guy is. I've never heard any of his music. I hear his really popular stateside
