I think John Simon's more of an anti-unrealism guy. If a film's got special f/x such as ESB, then it must be denounced as kiddy fare.

I wouldn't call him an idiot because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I do strongly disagree with John Simon. Siskel and Ebert for the win!

What I hate is this idea that movies make you dumb or smart. I have watched oscar winning movies and stupid Adam Sandler movies and I never learned a thing from any of them. If someone needs their entertainment to educate them they need to go back to school or read more.
