Can we talk about Sawyer cliches? Like popping into a thread just to sap the fun out of it?

I'm sure there are more than just that... :awesome:

It was done during the last couple of seasons when the show was on it's last legs, it featured two guys doing a radio show at Bud's college, one of those guys was a young Eric Dane from Grey's Anatomy.

In the episode Bud is pining for the hot girl played by Keri Russel but there's a muscle bound foreign guy called Nicolai also going for her.
I always liked that episode, but I never knew it was a backdoor pilot.

Not specific to just sitcoms but I've always been annoyed by the "overprotective big brother freaking out over his sister dating one of his friends - or just dating in general". Always annoys me because rarely if ever actually happens in real life.

It's even worse when they have it that the sister is really flirty or promiscuous and the big brother doesn't see it because she's his "sweet baby sister".

Yeah, in real life, big brothers know before parents do when their sister is a ho. It's true that big brother will often want to protect their innocent younger sister, but once she goes into skank territory he stops caring what happens to her.

Or a father is oblivious to his daughter's promiscuous behavior because she's his "sweet little angel".

LOL

Pimp my sister!

Ok here we go....

The family that tries so hard to get over that hit just to be kicked down the mountain.

Your maid moves to Chicago and you are still in NYC and never go to visit her to see how she is doing yet you are so liberal:dry:

What about...

-the student-body that attends highschool all goes on to attend the same exact college. See 'Beverly Hills 90210', 'Saved by the Bell', etc

Ok actually I have seen this happen in real life half of my graduation class went to North Carolina A&T no joke...kinda sad:csad:

When one character gradually becomes stupider as the show goes on until they achieve quasi-mental ******ation.

The " Eric Matthews " syndrome. Which brings me to my next cliche, the " incredibly stupid guy who still manages to have a girlfriend." I'm looking at you Waldo Geraldo Faldo, and Jr. Kyle.

I dunno, dumb people don't seem to have any problems breeding in real life.

Remember, for every dumb guy, there is a dumb gal.

Now, if a dumb guy has an intelligent love interest, that is kind of strange. Assuming they're not good looking, or successful (in spite of their stupidity).

I'd say Homer Simpson.

And Peter Griffin. He was actually diagnosed as being ******ed, yet Lois still lets him be the head of the household ? Al Bundy started out as just a grumpy guy unhappy with his married life, then eventually got more buffoonish.

To continue on the "Manic Pixie Dream Girl", she has quirky characteristics mainly involved with the arts in a quirky way. Does crazy and insane things just because and is mainly associated with hippie beliefs.

Also the nerdy nice guy gets the hot girl.

They're an interesting two. Because, a lot of people complain that Homer has become more dislikable over the years. And if you watch all of the old seasons (I'm a fan), he really isn't. He was never exactly the most likable guy. Strangling Bart is one of the show's oldest jokes. Even the people making the show have noted how dumb Homer has gotten.

Peter Griffin on the other hand started out as somewhat likable. Never the brightest guy, but he clearly cared about his family and friends. A lot of the early plots were actually driven by him trying (albeit it very ineptly) to help others. Now... well, just watch an episode of Family Guy. The joke of Stewie being evil has been completely lost, because half the cast now has homicidal tendencies. Peter being among the worst of them.

Peter gets a double dose. Dumber, and more unpleasant.

It seems that this usually effects the dad.

The lost puppy episode. Whether its the family finding a lost dog, or loosing and looking for there own. If the family finds it the original owner will see that it's happier some how and let the family keep it.

As far as characters getting dumber, let's not forget Kelly Bundy, Chrissy Snow, Hilary Banks, and Chelsea from That's So Raven.

These ladies started off as slighty clueless, but still capable human beings; as their respected shows when on they became damn near ******ed.

What's worse is that they got some pretty fine women, Jr. even got his girl pregnant.

Man, Waldo annoyed the hell out of me with that constant dumb look on his face.

- the episode in which a character is on his/her deathbed and almost pronounced a vegetable by the doctors suddenly gets well all of a sudden when another character starts pouring his/her soul to them and the tears start falling.

That's more of a dramatic movie cliche.

Like the hero who stops the bomb with ALWAYS one second to spare.

How come the bomb never has twenty seconds or three minutes left? Always one second. They sometimes try to push the ante even further by having it show zero seconds or 0.01 seconds.

At least in gold finger there were 007 seconds.
