Slimmer PS3 on the way.

It's no surprise to hear that Sony's already working on the next gen PS3, but rumor has it that the new PS3 will have a dramatically different design from its current incarnation, shedding loads of that initial baby fat for a nice svelte profile. Sony Japan says that they're expected to transition to 45-nm chips by 2008. These new chips would halve the size of the PS3's current 90-nm chips, allowing for that thinner, curvier PS3. Considering how fat the current model is, the idea of a slimmer console is a welcome idea indeed.

Interesting stuff. They're probably gonna try and mimic the 360's design, somewhat.

in my opinion, if this is true, they shouldnt have let it get leaked. I was fully planning on buying a PS3 this fall but if a new design is coming in 2008, I will wait till next year to get one

Well not really... what he said had no "shot" at Sony at all. I don't think he meant mimicing the 360's design to be a bad thing.

well, that's how it came out, and i'm pretty sure that is how he meant it. how would sony mimicing the 360 not be a bad thing? not that the look of the 360 is bad, but what he was implying is that "sony steals everything else from nintendo/microsoft, now this!" even without any evidence to support it.

in short, again, he took a cheap shot at sony for no good reason other than just to do it.

I doubt the design is going to mimick the 360 any is terms of shape or size. Considering they're both pretty close in size anyway and Sony is going to have their own 'look' for whatever redesign they eventually make.

You, sir, are an idiot. How in the hell is that a cheap shot? FYI, I have a PS3, and I think it could be a little smaller. They said it's going to be a little curvier, and I believe it's going to SOMEWHAT look like the 360.

Get your facts straight before taking a pot-shot at me.

The smaller system isn't part of them making it easy to mock or ridicule. The delay in the PS3 launch for Europe and Australia, their adoption of a "next-gen format" when neither blu-ray or hd-dvd is guaranteed to succeed, the statement that the PS3 is "true-hd" despite every single source that says hd starts at 720, last year's E3, and some others that have slipped my mind.

Essentially, brand loyalty is a complete waste of time. It's a company, not a damn sports team.

probably not. It will have fixed the bugs, but otherwise it would be like getting a gen1 or gen2 ps2. Some minor imporovements maybe, but nothing great.
