AKA - "Atlanta/Buford/Athens get together."

First, I would ask for the Mods to leave this up, or possibly make this a sticky - considering the importance. You will understand, once you read the entire post.

Alright - for those whom frequent the 'Tusi and any other thread where this has been mentioned, ActuallyRobin and I are having a week long adventure during the opening week of The Dark Knight.

A while back, Robin mentioned that he was coming to the states for a bit of a holiday, and that he would fit in a Batman movie or two, while here. Through conversation, I agreed that it would be cheaper for him to stay at my place - considering the price of an Inn and the cold chill that can be 'being alone in a different country'.

This was not something that was hidden; we spoke about his trip openly and frequently.

Once people realized that this was a real 'party', people began to jump on the idea. I am not oppose to housing a few more people. It is ridiculous for any of you to pay for a hotel room, when said persons can sleep at my place.

Here's the problem - it has come to my attention that there are more than just a few people coming to the local IMax, in my town. For those that are in the area, the 'crashing at my place' does not apply. You all, whom ever you are, are capable of meeting us at the IMax for said show. However, for those that are driving in, or flying in - I am unaware of your intentions. I can not house too many people, and wish to not house those in which I have not previously spoken to. I will, however, if the need is there.

So - in short, for those that are driving in, or flying in, I need to know what you intend to do. Do you need a place to stay? Are you intending on staying at a hotel? When are you coming in? Etc.

Again, an air mattress is much cheaper than $55-75 a night. But I need to be informed.

For the simpler ideal - those whom wish to see the movie, this is where we can talk about a meeting time. Etc.

The idea, so far, is as stated: Midnight showing, in Athens, on July 18th 12:01AM. Later that day, Robin and I intend on seeing TDK at the local IMax, in Buford, GA - 45 minutes up the road from my place.

All are welcome to hang out and see the movie. I see nothing wrong with the local Hypesters getting together for TDK. However, the 'sleeping arrangements' need to be set in stone - now.

Questions, comments, ideas, etc.

Additions:

To get an idea of the surrounding areas:
IMax
Athens
Atlanta

Also, the idea that we can all be together - staying with me or a local hotel, is better than scattering around.

It makes more sense to be close to me, a local - so I can show you around, get you to the theater, and just simple fun. Roaming around an area in which one is not familiar can be no fun. At least in a group, we can cover more ground and do more: obviously the movie, dinners, drinks, hanging out, etc.

Never in my whole life would I think strangers would travel to another stranger's house just to see a movie...But to each's own! It's a pretty cool idea.

Robin and I spoke of this earlier. This is my analogy: For those who are in the dating game, the idea of meeting a stranger holds the same dangers. I believe the stigma that is 'internet friends' holds more of a 'bad idea' than that of meeting someone randomly. My point - I meet a girl downtown; I buy her a drink; we talk for a bit, have a laugh, compare likenesses, and possibly have another drink. The evening ends with a hug, handshake, whatever - and the exchange of phone numbers.

Is there a danger as to meeting this person on a later date? Sure the environment that was the 'first meeting' was in a public place, and the second meeting should be as well - hence, "safe." Yet - the 'what if's' are still there. What if we hit it off and decide to take it back to one of our places for a more intimate environment? Etc. I've met ladies, got the number, and the second or third 'date' was at my place - where we had dinner and watch a movie, played a game, etc.

In short, I think the internet carries some sort of stigma, that it shouldn't, in this day of time. Sure caution is still there, and I will take the proper steps and would encourage those who are staying to do the same. But our day-to-day lives carry the same stigma that is in the idea of 'internet friends'.

However, you did say it best - "to each his own."

Well, I'm not going to America, but you're a real gem for doing this, Storm. ;)

I'll await further news to see if any of the ones going are ever seen again :D

I'm not in the practice of stealing people.

It puts the lotion in its skin.

However, thanks for thinking so highly of me.

I trust J not to steal me

Try anything weird and I will shoot you in the penis.

It seems all the 'talk' about coming to my place was just that - talk. Or maybe this thread hasn't been up long enough.

Meh.

If it is just me, Robin and a bunch of my lady friends - I'm cool with that.

that's twice you've threatened me with that! :p

Pretty awsome think you have goin' here JStorm; I think alot of people are doin' this sorta thing. Well, at least I know that some of the Tusians are meetin' up in a gathering in Atlanta; but still, very awsome and I salute you for opening your hospitality and being generous to those around you. :yay: :word: :brucebat:

I think this is awesome, because I would do anything to see the movie with the group of people I've become acquainted with on these forums. I consider them friends, and real fans to say the least. I love the idea J, I'd certainly be taking part in it if I could  But hey, who wants to fly me down to the east coast :cwink:

I'm already staying at a friend's J, so no need to worry bout me.

Anyone who can go to the Dublin IMAX over here in the Central Valley can join me and the group I'll be taking :word:

I know that - you don't need to rub it in :cmad:

I'm alone over here in CA :csad:

You know Batto, right now I'm in serious consideration of heading over to Dublin. If I took BART I could be over there in no time actually, I'm not that far from you really. I';ll have to jump on this soon, and talk to some friends of mine too

A party, you say? A slumber party even? Lose contact with the net for a few weeks and look at what you miss! I won't be heading to the states anytime soon, and have my own plans for opening night besides (although, should we organize a Canadian version?) but sounds like an awesome idea!

But I will be in Atlanta.

Also the reason for this thread.

No worries on not staying. However, if you are this close - why not hang with Robin and I, for a few drinks and the movie.

I will try and hunt down Hobby, Socko, and any other Atlanta Hypester.

It's whatever.

I would really love to be involved in this, but I dont think I have the cash to do so! it sucks terribly :(

Get down here, and I will take care of the rest - well, save food and stuff. ;)

Roof over your head, taxi your sorry arse around, etc. I'll even feed you, while at my place.

Man that sounds so frickin badass bro, how could I resist?:woot:

I don't want to leave anyone out. Yet I do understand plane tickets can cost from $200.00 to beyond - as well as gas pricing. If said person(s) are not in the tri-state area, driving here would be outrageous.

Robin's only saving grace is the fact that the second he steps foot on American soil, his pound becomes double our dollar. So really the only expensive thing is his ticket - everything else is half price.

I almost have a good mind to make him pay for my ticket - $8-14 for me, $4-7 for him.
