I was bored and watching that new cw show gossip girl for a bit since i have nothing else on tv to watch right now and when a character on the show was getting on a bus i noticed a smallville ad on the bus. How nice now they are promoting shows within shows. Did any one else noticed that.

Here is a screen shot from the episode.

very cool.

Gossip Girl is not the only show to mention Smallville.

Will and Grace
Entourage
The Office

have all mentioned Smallville and/or Tom Welling. :)

Didn't a trailer for Nancy Drew said something on the lines of "Like the hot guy on Smallville" or something like that?

Well what i was saying how funny that cw is promoting one of the network shows within another show on the network.

now if they actually did that marketing in reality it wouldn't be a problem

CW has some really bad marketing. Its almost too transparent and gimmicky, I feel sorry for the firm that carries its advertising. Promoting shows within shows (Smallville with the wrestlers and america's top model guest stars) is simply hacky and gimmicky.
I was watching there fall preview show....good god that was awful, it was presented like a Nick Kids programme. If there was any question on who this network markets too it was erased then.
Its odd too cause even when it was the WB/UPN they had shows with a built in audience (Charmed, Buffy, Dawson's, 7th Heaven) and should have found new and innovative ways to market and attract larger audience ( I suppose the allure of hot tween chicks is enough).

On a side note, Gossip Girls is gonna be huge show and fill pop culture void left by the OC, Beverly Hills 90201 and Dawson's Creek. Bet the house on it. It doesnt matter at all what the show is like, I havent seen it but it just has the right formula.

Last year Tom Welling's face was all over the buses in downtown Toronto for months.

But unfortunately it was that weird CW promo with his mouth opened. Probably did more harm than good. :/

I think people kinda lost intrest in the show and the scaled everything back. Remeber this was a show that had its cast on the cover of Rolling Stone. It was going to be a pop culture. I dont think Clark and Lana's love story was the reason (cause lets face it, thats the stuff that gets mainstream audiences in...angst tv couples) but I think other stuff came along and the writers just coasted and streched it out with no progress to many sub-plots.

When did Entourage make a Smallville reference?

In Season 2, I think, when Vince and the boys were looking at houses to buy. The realitor said, "An actor from Smallville was looking at it last week." Then Vince said, "Where's Smallville?"
