Title: Endings & Beginnings
By: LVForever
Spoilers: Arctic
Feedback: You know I need it. Every writer does.
Pairing: Clark/Lois ; Argo/Kara ; more to be added.
Short Summary: Kara's in the Phantom Zone, Lana is gone forever, she left straight for Paris after having made her Dear John video for Clark and won't ever return. Chloe is taken into custody by the DDS... does that mean the only one Clark can turn to is Lois?
Disclaimer: I don't own Smallville, I do own.... no wait, I don't own Argo either! Anyone.
Chapter 1: Freedom
Clark was at his barn, standing there while thinking about certain things. Brainiac had said that he had done something far worse than death to Kara. Clark had been right: the real Kara would never have done such a thing to Edward Teague or those others that had died on that plane. If only he had pressed Brainiac for more answers. And now Jimmy had just come in and started talking about Chloe having been arrested by the Department of Domestic Security. "What?" He asked, whirling around to face Jimmy. "You made a deal with Lex? Where is he now?" Clark pressed for the answers to those questions.
"He's off to the Arctic, Clark. I don't know why he's there." Jimmy told Clark, seeing the expression on his friend's face. He decided not to press the matter, if Clark didn't want to share, he would not make the mistake of asking him what was wrong.
Oh no. Not this. Clark thought as he grabbed the octagonal key and put it in his pocket. "I'll be going now, there must be a way to get those charges dropped." Jimmy said and ran out of the barn toward his car, while thinking of ways to get his beloved Chloe out of the slammer. Dammit Olsen, you always have the most suckiest timing! Jimmy angrily thought...
Clark supersped toward the Caves and inserted the octagonal key into the slot which granted him access to the inner sanctum where the Krytonian Crystal that had been split in three stones he had taken a long time to bring together was embedded into the altar.
His hand touched the Crystal and he was teleported to his Fortress of Solitude.
But Lex was already standing there... admiring the Traveler's home, while holding the Kryptonian orb in his gloved hand. He hadn't sensed Clark arrive, yet he did turn his head to look around and they stayed on Clark.
"I should have known. With all the strange occurences happening here in Smallville, you were always there, Clark. You see you live among us as a mildmannered farmboy, secretly you're a strange visitor from another planet plotting our demise." "That's not what I'm doing just now!" "It's a brilliant disguise, Clark. You don't even need a mask."
"I'm not your enemy, Lex. I've never done anything to hurt you." "You trust me. With everything you had. With everything you could do, did you ever think what we could accomplish together? I would have helped you become a hero." "You've never thought of anyone but yourself." "Right now, I'm doing this for the World. I have to protect the human race." "This is my life, you can't control it!" Lex pushed Clark on the ground. "I love you like a brother, Clark, but I have to do this. For the human race."
Lex walked to the console and inserted the orb into the socket... a purple light shone. "You don't know what you're doing, you bald billionaire..." A disembodied voice echoed through the Fortress.
"Excuse me?!" Lex shouted. "What did you just call me!" Lex asked, but his shouts were drowned out because of the shaking of the Fortress. Somewhere in the Fortress but not that close to Clark and Lex, the ground shook and an ice tomb appeared out of the ground. The Crystal shattered and a man dressed in a blue uniform appeared out of the tomb. His eyes shot towards Clark and Lex. "Where is my betrothed?" He asked, when memories of life on Krypton flooded his thoughts... the bombing of his and Kara's school, taking on the promise to Zor-El to protect Kara with his life...
"THIS?! THIS is what happens from the orb!?" Lex shouted, enraged. The man looked around, but didn't recognize either Clark or Lex. He used his superspeed to knock Lex out of the way, took the Orb and shattered it, and took the body of Lex Luthor into the Crystal Tomb.
However, before he could put his body into the Crystal Tomb, Clark had supersped towards the man and knocked him away. "Even though he's my enemy, he's also my friend. And whoever you are, I WON'T let anyone hurt him!"
The man smiled a cruel grin, Argo wasn't about to let his identity known that easily, however, it amazed him that the other man had abilities so like him. He readied a hard punch which knocked Clark back a few, leaving Argo to tower over Lex. "THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU REFUSE TO TELL ME WHERE MY BETROTHED IS!" Argo shouted to Clark, much like the same when Kara had first met Clark. He produced a little device with an 'S' on it and smiled. "I won't let you remember this." Argo then turned to Clark. "Whoever you are, I'm doing you a favor. All I want to know is where my betrothed is." But Clark wasn't going to just reveal his identity either. He was too late as he watched a glowing light engulf Lex... until Argo figured the dosis of the strong glow was enough to make Lex forget what had happened.
Clark got up and was about to superspeed toward Lex and the man, when he thought the better of that idea. "Who's your betrothed?" He shouted toward Argo.
Argo turned around to face Clark and with a normal expression on his face, not even in a tone he was joking around, he told Clark the name of his betrothed. "Kara Zor-El."
Clark was stunned. "WHAT?! You got to be kidding me." That and the fact that he couldn't call up Kara and say Hey Cuz, you got a Kryptonian claiming you're his betrothed. Care to explain that to me?
Argo sighed. "Whatever. If you won't help me, I'll find someone who will." Argo said and supersped out of the Arctic, his body launching up into the air and flew away. Clark acted on instinct, took Lex in his arms and supersped away from the Fortress, yet he couldn't help but be grateful for the strange Kryptonian who had the shattered the orb... yet more questions arose. Why was he imprisoned in the Fortress? Who is that man? What does he want with Kara? He figured he'd take Lex back to his Mansion, because he didn't want to run into Lois at the Farm so he would have to explain himself.
~~~KENT FARM~~~
Argo arrived at the Kent Farm, the house to be more exact. There was strong scent that clung to him, a scent only Kryptonians could smell. She was here, I can smell it. Argo thought and immediately followed the scent to Kara's bedroom. He found several clothes, which had the scent on them, only stronger, more purer. The desire to smell them more up, close and personal took dominance, but there was a picture that caught his attention... His hands enclosed around the frame and he brought it forward.
Kara.... and another? Blonde hair, freckled face... Argo turned the picture around and saw the names. Kara Kent and Jimmy Olsen. With an angry yell he flung the framed photograph against the wall, not watching as the glass that protected the photograph burst into tiny fragments. He supersped downstairs and was about to leave, when someone entered the house.
"Smallville? Are you... Eh?" Lois asked, her eyes settling on the stranger. "Who are you and what are you doing in the Kent House?" Lois asked, taking on a defensive posture.
"You don't have to fear me, my name is Argo. I'm looking for my betrothed." Argo said, suddenly revealing his name to this woman. Maybe she had power over him that would make him speak the truth? No, Kara was everything to him, he'd never like another woman. He wouldn't screw up like Zor-El had done, loving Lara, his brother's wife.
Her defenses lowered a bit. "Okay, who is your betrothed?" Lois asked. Why in the world would he be HERE looking for his betrothed? That can only mean... oh god... Lois thought and was about to say who she thought he was looking for, when Argo spoke up. "Kara Zor-El." The shock was too much for Lois and she said "GET OUT!"
Figuring she meant she wanted him out of the house, Argo walked toward the door... but Lois stopped him. "No, that's not what I meant... it's a figure of speech..." Lois said with a blush. "Stay... I'm sure Clark can tell you where Kara is."
