My parents rented it, and I' mgoing go out soon but I've watch the first 40 minutes... It's actually pretty funny...

...That, kids, was the sound of Movies cred being flushed down the toilet.

Like I've give a **** about online cred, I post what I think whenever, anyway I think it's funny.... I like Amanda Bynes at least she's got some talent unlike some teenage hacks. Plus it has some heart the movie, not everything has to be deep...

I never said you cared, stop jumping to conclusions.

I apologize, but this online cred seems to be the new hype fad, people keep being called on it. Anyway about the movie....

I'm sure the movie is actually pretty watchable.
Most people diss teen comedies, but some are very well done(Mean Girls).

Teen comedies reached their peak in the 1980s'. Fast Times (the best film of the genre), Heathers, The Breakfast Club, Say Anything - all classics. There were only a select few of real note after that (Clueless, the American Pie series, Mean Girls).

Anyway, despite the fact that I like Amanda Bynes, I don't think I'll ever be viewing this movie. The premise is kind of overused and just doesn't look like the kind of film I'd enjoy.

The Breakfast Club and Fast Times are my faves:up:

I love the Breakfast Club, even my parents love the Breakfast Club.
Fast times is :down  .
I love Ferris Bueller's Day Off as well. It's like the ultimate teenage kids dream.
Actually, Pretty much every John Hughes film from the 80's is a classic.

What?

Fast Times is easily the best teen film for me IMO. It is by far the most realistic portrayal of high school I've ever seen. The clothes, hair, and music may be dated, but the sentiments echoed throughout the film still ring true today. I was born 8 years after the film came out, and I watched it for the first time last summer, and it is one of my Top 5 faves. It pretty much set a standard for teen comedies and only a select few have lived up to it IMO.

It wasn't like the school I went to though, so I can't relate to it like most can.

It's not just how school is portrayed, it's how the characters are portrayed. They are so well developed and believable. The emotions the characters go through throughout the entire course of the films are ones I think pretty much all teenagers have experienced at one point in their lives, whether it be sexual frustration, awkwardness around women, goofing off or just plain nothing going right, everything most if not all teenagers go through is portrayed in a completely believable way.

Don't want to get off topic though.

It's really off topic, were discussing teen comedies.
It's a good movie, it's just not my kind of film.

I recently realised how stupid it is to actually debate the actual quality of a movie.

People just like something. It's not like after a long, dry argument one side will go "Oh my God, you're right, this movie SUCKS!" or "Wow, now I want to hump that Martin Scorsese fellow!" It's much better to just disect movies and compare them through themes and motifs and leave actual quality to the individual, the critic, the populace, and ultimately history.

I agree, but I also think we have the right to defend our opinions on the film's quality and thus debate them. No one wins the end, but it's always worth a try.

I wasn't debating about the quality of Fast Times. That:down  was because it's not a must watch to me.
It's a great film, and the acting is great and the stories are important.

Have you seen Ghost World? It's probably the best thing to come out of the 90's teensploitation fad.

Most of my post brings up objective points but with a movie like this it's simply a feel-good movie that I liked...

Precisely. It was an enjoyable, light-hearted flick. Nothing so deep that requires a dissection.

Yeah... unless the 3 chicks on the DVD cover have a hot makeout scene in the movie... I'm not watching this.

I enjoyed this one too. It gave me a few good laughs, and the story doesn't play out too badly, which is surprising, because at first glance, a girl pretending to be a boy in a modern-day socer team seems far-fetched.
