Allright so I was once a big X-fan untill Fox almost ruined it for me. Obviously I loved the comics and the 90's series and think that Evolution even had it's moments but it seems to me that this show is geared toward the movie fans. I can't stand Wolverine (never have) and not only is Cyclops my favorite X-Man he's my favorite superhero period. I know this show is supposed to focus on Wolverine and that he take's Scott's spot but part of me is hopeing since they've kept Cyclops on the team that maybe they'll give him his due. The show ain't on tv in the states yet but I know it's showing other places and that it's popped up on youtube as well. So my question to those that have watched the show is: Can a Cyclops fan still enjoy the show and Scott's character if he accepts the focus will be on Logan?
Can a Cyclops fan still enjoy the show and Scott's character if he accepts the focus will be on Logan? Yes.
Can a Cyclops fan still enjoy the show if they're watching it solely or mostly for Cyclops? No. He doesn't do much at all until episode 12.
I hate Wolverine, but this show allows me to tolerate him. Beside Wolverine, it's one of the best superhero cartoons imo. Nightcrawler and Emma and Rogue have all thus far been interesting wonderful characters, and there are cameos GALORE!
This show chooses overall plot as opposed to smaller stories (mostly). This show favors action over character. If either of those are abrasive to you, it might not be the best show for you.
Thanks for the response. While Cyclops is my favorite there are other characters I'm also interested in seeing on this show such as Emma, Iceman, Angel, and Gambit. I just did'nt want to watch the show and see Cyclops get screwed over again and again . . . and again. I can't watch the movies for that reason. I think as long as they don't make him look like a push over who get's killed by his wife I'll be able to tolerate some of what they do with him.
So thanks again bro, I'll give the show a chance next month.
Well, in the first few episodes, he is somewhat of a pushover/mute, rarely calling Logan out or anything, and always lamenting about Jean. But I have the feeling things are starting to look up for him.
I think some aspects of the show at first will turn off the Cyclops fans. There was a particular moment in the first episode that I thought was a little too like, "OK I think that might be going a little too far."
Overall for the show though, as Forrest Griffin would say "The squeeze is worth the juice."

Yeah, Cyclops kicks a whole lot of ass ep 12, I think. That's the Sinister ep, right? It probably dethroned that episode of Evo where he was wandering the desert blind as my favorite Cyclops episode of any show.

Considering all the posts, reviews, and rants I have made about this show, I figure I may as well add my opinion to the mix here.
Taking your question literally: if you ACCEPT that Wolverine will have the focus, at least a majority of the time, then I will say yes. As a Cyclops fan, you will be looking for character moments and power moments.
I am curious about your full feelings about X-MEN EVOLUTION. For me, that was the show that actually got me to LIKE Cyclops as a character. It showed that he was more than a leader with an eye-beam who dated Jean Grey, or at least he could be. He could be sensitive, noble, even funny or imperfect. He was awkward in social situations but felt more at home as an X-Man. He was willing to give Rogue a chance when even Xavier was anticipating fighting her on the Brotherhood. Before X-MEN EVOLUTION and ULTIMATE X-MEN I was a hardcore Logan fan and Cyke usually bored me. But those two bits showed me that Scott could be both cool and endearing, which got me to like him more. Quite frankly, X-MEN EVOLUTION was the first cartoon where Scott had a starring role and was not overshadowed by Wolverine until maybe towards the very end of Season 4 (in the series finale, he is taken out by Mystique off camera, which sucked). He, along with Rogue, got the lion's share of character development on EVOLUTION. You will, frankly, NEVER see that level of focus for Cyclops on an X-Men show ever again. Nearly every episode for 4 seasons, the male lead? Never, ever again. This was his moment, and he is glad to have had it.
That said, X-MEN EVOLUTION was geared to appeal to some movie fans, but when it was in production, there was only one movie (X-MEN 2 came out as it was airing it's last season). WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN is coming out after X-MEN 3 and with a WOLVERINE solo film in development. It is more action and story oriented than character oriented. EVOLUTION had some bare bones fights and focused more on character stuff. WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN has some character stuff, but focuses mostly on the stories and sagas. Kind of like the 90's show did. Much like the 90's show, it emcompasses the entire X-Universe of time travel, aliens, and alternate dimensions. EVOLUTION kept things simple.
From here on out, VERY spoiler-intensive.
In the comics, Cyclops was the leader and even into the 70's and 80's a brash, "cool" character, not afraid to blast someone or even, gasp, backhand Wolverine when he was being a pissant. But as Logan's popularity increased in the 80's and Scott left the team to do his own thing on X-FACTOR, that shift changed. Scott spent much of the 90's and pretty much until Grant Morrison came along stepping back and letting Wolverine (or Gambit) be Mr. Cool.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN continues this trend. No one on the show can be cooler than Wolverine, except sometimes Nightcrawler. Wolverine is right in every situation, even when he is being brash, stubborn, or hypocritical. No one stands up to him. If you hated how no one ever questions Robin when he was being an aggressive jerk in TEEN TITANS, it might irritate you in WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN. In past cartoons, Cyclops' leadership was questioned nearly every episode by someone who disagreed or whatnot. Here, anything Wolverine says goes, even when he is leading the team into an obvious trap or is being overly aggressive. Any experience or insight someone else may have, if Logan doesn't listen to it, no one says Boo. Only Emma Frost sometimes makes snide comments about Logan's short comings, but they are fairly tame compared to some of the crap Logan would give in the 90's cartoon ("I go where I WANNA go!").
Wolverine isn't even the leader; he listens to Xavier psychically and does whatever he says. Any X-Person would do that. The show making a big deal of making Logan leader and then rarely letting him actually make the vital decisions is one of the first season's hiccups.
As for Cyclops, he is a constant presence since the pilot. The show presumes that you know he was the usual leader of the X-Men and that he was dating Jean Grey. The only hiccup is that in his ONLY scene with Jean, guess what they are talking about? Wolverine. Jean wants him to apologize for some unseen slight or insult to the almighty berserker. Jean even blows Logan a kiss when he passes. An explosion takes Xavier and Jean from the team and they disband for a year. While Beast remains underneath the shattered mansion, Storm returns to Africa, Nightcrawler looks out for some mutants trying to sail to Genosha, others venture home and Logan hit the road, Scott pretty much sat in a depressed funk alone. He refuses to lead the X-Men and looks for any chance to blast Wolverine. He agrees to help rescue Xavier and appears only to remain with the team because Xavier begs him or someone mentions Jean. Most times he is mute and does little but provide an optic blast when it is needed.
Some viewers see Shakespearan level pathos in a few seconds of silent bits an episode; I see bare bones attempts at reminding you of a subplot. The theme across the season so far is this silent, mopey Cyclops is NOT his normal character and some of the other X-Men are either disturbed or disgusted by it. Emma Frost joins the cast by episode 3 and takes over the role as psychic and begins to have some interest in Cyclops. Quite why is really unknown. All Scott does is ask her to look for Jean and doesn't return any of her attempts at normal conversation. He never suits up unless someone guilts him into doing so; he would have let the X-Men go into missions without him a few times if he didn't overhear someone grouse to the effect of, "Scott didn't used to be this mopey". Emma Frost on the show is someone who is not terribly pure or innocent, someone who was once a rival of Xavier's and has a dark past and a monster chip on her shoulder. But she does sometimes want to help the mutant cause, and Cyclops in particular.
But then Episode 12 happens, and Cyclops spends about 15 minutes of a 20 minute show kicking all kinds of rear end. It makes some of his power moments in "STUFF OF HEROES" in Evolution look like child's play. The almost all bit makes up for 11 episodes of Scott being boring or mute with a full episode of butt kicking action. The final minutes undermine some of it with Logan being more of a hypocrite than most cosmic beings, but the impact is still there. The episode provides hope for more in the future.
The bottom line? Cyclops in WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN will frustrate you because sometimes he is often portrayed as boring, mopey, or weak willed. Without Jean or Xavier to coddle his ego, he cares about very little and this is not an attractive or interesting character trait, or rather it isn't when he barely talks. But Cyclops' subplot is maintained, bare bones or not. He is part of the main cast when there are many X-Men who are not; Scott's fared much better on this show than Storm or Gambit have so far. Episode 12 leaves things in a place where the potential for the character could be tapped in later episodes. There is an idea that Scott & Logan have swapped roles in this show, but we have seen little of this until episode 12 and it only shows up there. Cyclops isn't completely ignored and, again, does get a focus episode, and a damn good one, so far. Nolan North, his new voice actor, perhaps better known as Giant-Man in ULTIMATE AVENGERS 1 & 2 and Raphael in the TMNT movie that hit theaters last year, does a good performance as Scott when he actually has more than 1-2 lines to work with. This Cyclops also seems to look for any excuse to zap Logan, which is amusing.
Honestly, the biggest problem with Scott, besides his mute phase, was the fact that it appears like he is tearing himself up over a woman who in no way cared about him. We see so little of Jean and the Jean we saw for a few moments cared more about Wolverine and getting Scott to appease him. Cyclops deeply misses her and sees little reason to fight without her, but one is left wondering if Jean would be as equally shattered without Cyclops. In X-MEN EVOLUTION, Scott & Jean started out as longtime friends with that endless tension but it was not until Season 3 before they became an item, and Scott only had to almost be murdered by Mystique in a desert. Jean rarely even noticed Cyclops unless Kitty was calling him "cute" or he was dating Taryn or Rogue was almost worshipping the ground he walked on. Many of the same writers & producers on EVOLUTION are working on WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN and I wonder if they are carrying over some themes.
One theme that I theorized about, but which hasn't been stated by this show at all, is the idea of Jean as an "idealized" woman who is unattainable and Frost as a more "real" woman who is there. One gets the impression that Jean completely complimented Cyclops 100% and was the yin to his yang, the milk to his cookies. Without her, Scott has sometimes seemed like Ahab out for that white whale, forever searching or mourning her loss and letting everything else slip by him. Emma Frost, while a bit of a stone cold *****, appears to, for whatever reason, see something to care about in this mess of a mutant and Scott doesn't even notice her. He only sees her as an avenue to find Jean. Maybe Scott needed Jean more than she needed him, and conversely, maybe Frost needs Scott to balance herself out, and Scott doesn't see it because he is too busy screaming "JJJEEEAAAANNNN!" in frustration. In some ways it reminds me of Charlie Brown being oblivious to Peppermint Patty's crush on him because he was mesmerized by the allusive "little red haired girl" who didn't even know he existed. Or, in X-MEN EVOLUTION, Scott not noticing that Rogue was obviously crushing on him because he still had that tension for Jean, even to the point where Rogue sometimes had to help him save Jean. In W&TXM, Jean could be the "Perfect Woman" who usually exists as a mirage and Frost is that flawed, but available woman who is there if you know where to look. But I could be deeply overthinking this crap and grasping at straws.
Honestly, it sounds like I hate the show, but I don't. WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN is a show that won't dazzle you from the pilot like SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN; it is a show that has to crawl before it walks, and walk before it runs. It will stumble and hiccup at times. But, no episode out of the 12 has been outright terrible. That isn't bad considering some of the sinkers in the first season of THE BATMAN or even JUSTICE LEAGUE. The show is getting better as it goes along and isn't afraid to push Logan to the side to focus on other characters sometimes, such as Nightcrawler or yes, Cyclops. At this point I have to believe there is more in the cards for Scott. After all, we had to wait years to see Flash be worth something in JLU, but it happened and it rocked. Unlike Wolverine, Cyclops' powers don't offend censorship boards (zapping people with energy beams has been fine since the 60's in cartoons) so hopefully we will get more power moments with him.
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN does not provide the deep, consistant presence of Cyclops or the complicated character interrelationships of X-MEN EVOLUTION. But he is there, and is worth watching the show to look out for.
It could be worse. You could be a Colossus fan. He's been shafted in every cartoon known to man. His last good moment in animation was about 12 years ago when he smashed Omega Red with a tank. Yeah.

yeah Colossus always gets shafted do you think they might ever take the shows focus off of wolverine even go as far to just make it an X-Men cartoon and give wolverine his own show. he's only had about a billion comics and right now.

Yeah, it didn't even feel like a saturday morning cartoon where you know everything's gonna turn out ok. The writers really asked themselves, "What's the worst survival scenario we could put Cyclops in?" and went with it. I felt some genuine concern that you don't really get seeing Batman & Plastic Man stranded on friggin' Dinosaur Island. God that new show sucks...

Speaking has a huge x-men fan who hates both Wolverine and Cyclops, I got to say I love this show. I am now being to like Wolverine more with this new situation and scott both a little, Scott doesn't want to take it from wolverine, but is doing it for the good of the team. but very reculntly, Plus episode 12 witch is a Cyclopes episode, not a wolverine ep. it pretty cool, never though I would like a cycoples episode but Scott kicks some major Maruders **** and takes on Mr. Sinister that was cool.

Surprisingly, despite Cyclops being crapped on by being replaced by Wolverine as the leader of the X-Men, he (along with Nightcrawler) have actually come off looking much cooler and more interesting then Wolverine. Like another poster has already said, episode 12 (as well as several latter episodes) is where Cyclops shines.
In fact, I HIGHLY recommend episode 20 for fans of Cyclops and the ORIGINAL 5 X-Men. That episode tells the origin of Cyclops and the first adventure of the original 5 X-Men in their original (but slightly modified and updated) classic yellow and blue/black costumes. And yes, I have already seen MOST of the episode in Spanish.

Sort of hilarious Cyclops moment in this episode. Wolverine's suited up and trying to organize the team against the Brotherhood. Walks into the living room and everyone is lounging around in their plain clothes. Wolverine's all WTF?!
Cyclops: Why should we believe Rogue after what she did?
Wolverine's all grr and then the Brotherhood comes in and almost hands the X-men their hoohoos.
Gotta say Cyclops has the most bad-ass character design amongst the lead characters of the show. Was never a fan of his Astonishing X-men "condom" look but it definitely works here!
The condom look was the first look he sported(just not one color). I mean hell Daredevil sports it but no one calls him out. Personally I think they have the opportunity to really make this Wolverine and the X-men if they bring Cyclops back on top(and make his character stronger by having to redeem himself).
Drawing on Vile's sPoiler up there, I feel like a moron for only NOW realizing the full extent of the irony here. And that is that now Wolverine is the tight-ass leader while Cyclops is the undermining loner firing off snarky one-liners.
And somehow it's worked well enough to not draw so much attention. Bravo.

The only problem, of course, is when Wolverine is the undermining loner, he almost never is made to look like a fool, and his selfishness or impulsiveness never leads to any sort of misfortune or error; in fact, it always saves the day. When Scott does it, of course, he either endangers everyone or looks like a fop, like the movies did.
Still, though, at least Cyclops has not been forgotten as a character. I don't see why any X-Men fan shouldn't be watching this show, Scott bias or not. It's a solid show.
The end of this season makes it all worth it (just watched the episodes -- in Spanish). Episode 20 is the best character episode for Scott ever. The last three episodes give him a ton of focus. The end though is the best.
The end of 26 is one very solemn scene setting up the entire next season:
The time stream has shifted. AoA Sinister walks out onto a platform, closely followed by AoA CYCLOPS, then finally Apocalypse himself. The Age of Apocalypse has unwittingly begun with the help of the X-Men
