Current Shutdown

As of Tuesday, 25th September 2007, Demonoid is currently down, with no prior warnings from any moderators of the site. Both the main torrent page and the forum (fora) are no longer accessible. It is still possible to ping and tracert the IP address of the site and it locates itself as in Canada, and SSH and SMTP services are still active. As of 6:45pm on 9-25-07, SSH and SMTP services are no longer active.
Torrentfreak.com has since reported this is due to legal actions from the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association) who ordered Demonoid's ISP to shut down the site.

:(

Hmmm... I was never a member (I could never get one of those infernal codes), but it's a good thing that I requested that torrent of Batman:The Man Who Laughs while it was still around. :joker:

Gotta give it a day or two to see if it´s gone for good

the same happened to isohunt in january but they relocated to canada

The next major torrent site will be hosted in IRAN!!

That's what you get for moving from the Netherlands to USALite. Give them time to relocate to the Ukraine and we will have them back in no time.

My friend gave me one of those codes to register a week or 2 ago. Bummer. First TorrentSpy is gone, now this. I only have a few more sites before I have to go back to buying things like a chump.

Ah, Ukraine.

The Land of the Free.

Oh balls.

I was really hoping that wasn't the case.

That's what you guys get for downloading movies illegally.

*stops seeding*

Oh well. All-Star Batman isn't getting my money, either way.

Okay, gang, rest easy. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demonoid:

"Update Sept 26 01:03 GMT - Demonoid not shut down, just an un-scheduled rebuild. (Posted to Demonoid IRC channel, and re-posted at zeropaid.com)

Anti-Piracy Organization Tries to Shut Down Demonoid

However, the current downtime of Demonoid has nothing to do with legal actions, but with hardware issues. The Demonoid team says they are currently replacing harddrives, and that it could take a few days before the site is back up.

The timeline given indicated that this is more than a regular hardware update. The downtime is probably caused by harddrive failure.

The official announcement in the Demonoid IRC channel is:

“Site offline for a few days while harddrives get replaced”

At this point it is still uncertain if any data is permanently lost or how long it will take to get things up and running. According to one of the admins It looks like the most recent data is lost for good. The good news is that there are backups, but these are a few days old.

Luckily the Demonoid trackers are not affected by the downtime. Demonoid is still one of the most used trackers, any downtime of the tracker will make thousands of torrents unusable in clients without DHT and multi-tracker support.

Update:

Demonoid placed this message on the frontpage:

We had a system problem which will force us to restore everything from backup. The disks are pretty much empty right now and until we are able to upload the backup and set up everything up, we have to close down."
