So What is Dan Yelling at?

I dunno, none of these really seem appropriate for the kind of yelling he was doing. I mean sure he would be devastated to see/hear about New York/Hollis/Rorscach, but the way he was screaming in the trailer, you would think someone just shoved a pinecone up his ass...

No, to me it seemed like the reaction someone would have if, say, their master told them they accidently force-choked their pregnant wife to death. "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

^lol...I think it should be simple to guess unless they added some stuff to the context. Its definitely when hes at Veidt's compound and there are a limited number of things one could 'nooooo' to at that point in the story. So my guess is when he finds out about New York...but isn't that supposed to happen indoors? maybe its afterwards. either way I'm excited to see if Rorschach's monologue changes...I really hope they keep the '****es and politicians' because if they dont then I don't know what an R is for.

Honestly, Rorschach's death does fit best. I can kinda see that being a viable reaction, depending on how the scene is written. Perhaps if he walks outside just as it happens, it's a mix of being both upset and surprised at what Manhattan just did.

I dont like the idea of it being a reaction to the New York stuff. I preferred his initial disbelief as a reaction. I cant imagine the scene playing out like that.

Adrian: "I did it 35 minutes ago"

Dan: "That's ridiculous, I dont believe you"

Rorschach: "Not lying. He really did it"

Dan: "NO!!!!!!!"

In some ways I don't want the scene to be in the movie. Falling to the knees and shouting nooooo is just so overly dramatic that its almost become comical. Thats just my two cents.

My thinking is that it could be when Veidt switches on the TV's to show what's happening to New York. Since the good Doc smashes through the windows and glass right before it, I figured some snow might've seeped in, causing the snow in the trailer. That's a plausible theory to me. But I do figure that it's probably Rorschach's death, which saddens me because his death is one of the defining moments of the story for him. It's very much his scene and with the cold blooded way it goes down, I think it's crucial Rorschach goes down like that. To have Dan come in and scream sounds a bit over the top for me

As super cool as the Watchmen trailer is, i do think that a lot of it was filmed specially for comic con.. I mean, realistically it's either that or the entire movie is gonna be in slow motion filled with characters posing intead of actors y'know... Acting.
i think the screaming dan scene is one such example... they did it just for the trailer..
Regardless of whether its in the actual movie or not an atmospheric "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" is pretty essential to your average summer movie trailer these days

QFT. It would be extremely comical, at least depending on the context, and lets face it, in the comic, there is no scene that him screaming like that will seem appropriate.

Just throwing this out there, but it doesn't really sound like a "noooo!" to me. Just sounds like "aaaaah!" in my opinion. I don't know if that changes anything, or gives anyone new ideas.

I really don't think dan would scream like that at rorschach's end cos it's somehow inevitable in a way to preserve the integrity of the whole story and night owl would surely be surprised or stunned by manhattan's gesture but not to the point of falling on his knees shouting like that ! Plus as someone said before ...and i i really watched it 10 times, it really seems his googles are reflecting some screens when he starts falling on the floor.... either the screens of adrian or the lights of the studio ... but i guess it would have been digitally edited if it where some unatural lighting for shooting the scene so...

Edit: just realised, all i just said had already been said :) sorry !

I think is yelling at the very thought of a million people dying to preserve the peace...

It does look and sound more like an "ARGH!" than a "NO!" as suggested above.

It could be tv-screens reflected in his goggles, but that just doesn't sound right with the snow and Dan's reaction. Maybe they crash through the roof of Karnak, hence the snow, and a fight ensues where Ozy ultimately pushes a doomsday-button. That would sound more right judging from Dan's dramatic response.

I hope it's Dan witnessing Rorschach's demise and that's his reaction, not so much because of Rorschach, but more as a reaction to the whole escalating situation culminating in the "meaningless" death of a colleague.

Maybe this is from a cut sequence that won't be in the actual movie. Maybe they shot several endings or angles depending on Warner's influence.

..... not so much because of Rorschach, but more as a reaction to the whole escalating situation culminating in the "meaningless" death of a colleague....

At the hand of another trusted one...that clearly could throw him of balance, feeling the whole situation is getting definately out of his grasp ...

You're probably right.

Exactly. He doesn't know "whether to **** or wind his wrist-watch". Hehe, didn't know how else to put it. But yeah, he's seriously confused and desillusioned.

I'm pretty sure that this is Dan's reaction to Rorchach's death.

Dan seems to care more about Rorschach in the movie than he does in the graphic novel, where he mostly fears him. His friendship with Rorschach and the others is given more weight in later scripts, and Dan starts to actually almost try to "save" Rorschach as the script progresses. Their talk underwater represents a breakthrough, and a return to the way things were. So when Rorschach dies, it hits Dan hard.

My guess is the reaction to Rorschach's death.

It comes off as a bit strong compared to the source material. But then again, Dan seemed to have a lingering affection for Rorschach, so I can see it.

Okay. I think I like that. I mean, I did sense elements of that in the book, and I liked the moments the two had together, such as in the owlship underwater. I'm okay with them fleshing that out just a bit.

I don't want to see Dan melodramatically yell at Rorschach's death. I hope it remains untouched and eerily silent as it was in the graphic novel when Dr. Manhattan just turns and walks away without a word. That hit me hard, I don't think Nite Owl screaming at his death would.

I dont know why he does it, but that was one of my favourite shots in the trailer.

Try not to judge it before you see it. If you don't give the little changes a chance, you're not giving yourself any hope of enjoying the movie...

i take it dan's not gonna be an out -of -shape former superhero judging from that clip.

I think it's probably Dan seeing Rorshach remains or seeing Dr. Mahattan killing him. Even if Rorschach was an ******* to Dan, he was still one of his friends. Dan had a very lonely and was probably depressed. Even seeing Rorschach breaking in and eating his sugar cubes might have made him happy to have someone to talk to. And then seeing basically his best friend blown to bits made him freak out.

No. Probably not as fat as he was in the GN but Patrick Wilson has said that he gained weight for the role.

he said at Comic-Con

"When just about everybody had to get into shape for their role, I got sit on my ass with Haggen Dazs in one hand a beer in the other for about a week."

Rorschach was different. His behavior was a result of what life did to his mind.. he was Dan's friend in his own way, and I think Dan's the only one who understood and appreciated it, wanted to be his friend too. At one point Rorschach even apologizes to him about how difficult it is to be his friend, and that's one of my favorite parts of the whole book, honestly...

it does sound more like aahhh.

I think people are subconsciously getting the idea that it's from Rorschach being killed because the scene after Dr. Manhattan is blowing up Vietcong

After watching the trailer 50x I've come to the conclusion that he's yelling at Rorschach, I mean if you look at the entire trailer it seems to have hidden messages. Think about it when the Comedian is thrown out the window the trailer quickly cuts to Ozymandias (the killer of the Comedian). Than when Nite Owl II yells it cuts to Dr.Manhattan blasting Vietnamese solider (Rorschach getting blasted at the end).
