Other than the initial X-Men movie, each movie going foward has reflected the times, X-Men The Movie was the inspiration behind "The New X-Men" storylines. Then we had X-Men 2, just around the time William Stryker had returned and stories were big on sentinals... although sentinals are not in x-men 2, but the whole fear factor of that story idea is what X-Men 2, X-Men 3 circled the Cure story along with featuring an old classic phoenix saga....

So my question is, going from the source material... Between what do you think will be the social issue of X-Men 4?

Two for me come to mind... If were talking about old stories and new stories then we have the perfect combination.

The Legacy Virus story and the Decimation Storys are pretty insince i feel... Lets look at it logically, mutants are dying what was a recent story from the x-men following M-Day... which is pretty much the key to x-men 3.

Because this helps enable the following... Sentinals Operation Zero Tolerence and Civial War, for the fifth movie and as for six, Rise of Apocalpyse and Messiah Complex.

The social issue of " We have to outline a plot first, then dig into conflicts".

Seriously dude, we don't know the basic plot yet, social issues can wait.

In a hypothetical situation where the powers-that-be get their act together and start making decent x-movies again, I think some social issues that could play a role in a sequel could be: Friends of Humanity, the Purifiers, the Legacy Virus, or maybe even Proposition X that was just in Uncanny.

But I don't have a lot of faith in a sequel.

How can the Purifiers exist if William stryker is a Colonel in the movie universe?

Haha, great point. Changes would obviously have to be made. I was thinking more of the concept of a violent religious group that thinks mutants are inherently evil, and that they're doing God's work, not necessarily the purifiers exactly. Maybe Metthew Risman could take Stryker's place.

I really don't see what issue they would face in X4 judging by X3's ending it look lke human/mutants have come to a peaceful resolution...now if Fox would've waited for Singer or whatever the case may have been

X3's issue would have been that Trask was manfucaturing Sentinels fearing that mutants will eventually strike back 1st after the events of X2

X4 could have been the cure issue, after seeing what Jean has become, the gov. and Woringthon industries create the cure, WW jr. wants to help his son, while the gov. has other intentions w/the cure....

I could see Victor Creed/FOH, and Genosha playing a part in either sequel...and the endinf of X4 would've been vague...will it be peaceful 'tween humans/mutants or do other dangers still loom...which could lead to other X-sequels

^ I agree Phoenix Flare, X3 really mucked up a lot of possibilities,

but I'd agree with Creed being the next step

X4 Social issues: Operation Zero Tolerance storyline/ Abuse of power/ rehash the MRA storyline

I think it could work with Creed as he hates mutants and can't stand to see a world where cohabitation exists, so he starts messing things up for them, having the FOH incite riots + provoking them, + never letting the public forget just how dangerous they are...

I think the underlying/ subtle plot, could be the lead up to the Legacy Virus (though the connection isn't made until X5) they could interpret that the cure ultimately becomes the virus, initially it strips mutants of their powers (but as witnessed by Mags X3) it's only temporary. As the film progresses they find that their abilities are returning much stronger (a factor Creed exploits to greenlight Proj. Zero Tolerance)

Creed presents the Sentinels as precationairy police aids/ gentle giants, but he totally abuses his power and thus restarting the mutant/ human conflict for a whole new trilogy...

Highlights
---Creed has FOH murder, anti-mutanists... frames mutants
---Sentinels greenlit, Mutants seek haven in NYC sewers out of fear=Morlocks (run by Sinister)
---Rogue's abilities spiral out of control, puts Bobby in a coma, flees to Morlocks, meets Warbird-kills her=super Rogue,
---Morlock rebels plan to trash Sentinel base, Rogue warns X-Men= X-Men go to stop them, but end up vs. Sentinel's, some rebels die, + Angel looses his wings
---end of film: Magneto finds some important documentation (learn in X5, scientist foresaw the possibility of the cure becoming un-permanant and deadly, but greenlit anyway)

X5-(Legcay Virus storylines) The cure is beginning to wear down the mutants, their rapidly increasing abilities are becoming too much for their bodies, resulting in deaths... Magneto announces Genosha (uses documents found in X4 to blackmail Pres. into gaining a small island for the dieing mutants to rest), he announces a cure by Dr. Nathaniel Essex is waiting on Genosha (but unbeknownst to everyone Essex is simply seeking a host body for his master)
---find an amnsesic Cyclops has been with Sinister since X3; why no body was found + Prof. X coudn't find his consciousness
---Essex has a cloning lab, Cyclops clones manipulated with various mutant DNA in hopes to find the best combination
---Essex betrayes Magneto, revealed that Essex influenced a lot of X4, both Creed & Magneto into finding the documentation= Genosha

The government is not totally trusting of Magneto, especially after he announces a cure=conflict

X6-Essex's motives revealed + the real war we missed in X3, Apocalypse vs. humanity
---horse men... Angel, Magneto (not sure about the last 2)

The underlying villain should be Dr. Essex/ Sinister, like a brilliant chess master, plotting ahead from the get go.
-has beenusing Bolivar Trask's prophetic son to glimpse the future (X4)
-He manipulates Creed in X4 to break apart the merging humans and Mutants
-encourages Morlocks rebels to welcome Rogue, as he knows her true loyalty + she would alert the X-Men (X4)
-manipulates Magneto in X5 to further drive the wedge and create the perfect host for the ultimate mutant by X6

... for him mutants are a fascination he wishes to become and since his exploits in Africa, (finding Apocalpse's tombs ruins or w/e) he learns that mutants will always be threatened by humanity, and Apocalypse is the only one who can eradicate that threat

The only social message I think is mandatory is for Rogue's powers to return and for her to realize that changing who you are so you could be with some boy isn't a great message to be sending.

i think we should have a more compelling saga... lets base it around the civial war.

Id do something like this...

This is set around 20 years after X-Men 3

X-Men 4: The Legacy Of The X-Men
--------------------------------
Christopher Summers gazes upon the setting sun at his families farm on Genosha, The world is in a state of civil war. Spies for the Pro-Mutant Alliance have stolen plans to the MRA'S Mastermold: a sentinal HQ station capable of scanning the entire planet for Mutants. Rebel leader "ROGUE" is in possession of the plans, but her ship is captured by MRA enforcers under the command of Bastion. Before she is captured, Rogue gives the plans to a mutant named Leech along with a message, The mutant escapes the facility and manages to find his way to Genosha with fellow mutant Artie. The two mutants are then found by Christopher Summers. While Chris is talking with Leech, He discovers his mission to deliever a message from Rogue to request the help of Old Man Logan. The only "Logan" Christopher knows of is an old lumberjack named James Howlett who lives in the nearby hills.

During dinner, Leech attempts to seek out Old Man Logan however disappears. The next morning Christopher and Artie go out after him and are met by an aged James Howlett, who reveals himself to be Logan and takes Christopher and the two mutants back to his Cabin. He tells Christopher of his days as an X-Man and explains to Christopher about a Xavier's dream. He also tells Christopher about his association with Christopher's father, also a
X-Man, whom he claims to have been betrayed and murdered by the Phoenix, Logan's former friend and fellow X-Man who unleashed her ability. Logan then views Rogues message, in which she begs him to take Leech and the Master-Mold plans to the mutant hide out in Wundergor, where a specialist will be able to retrieve and analyze them. Logan asks Christopher to accompany him to Wundergor and to learn the ways of the X-Men. After initially refusing, Christopher discovers that his home has been destroyed and his adoptive mother Askani was killed by MRA soldiers who are using the Mark 2 sentinal to locate Leech who they discovered has the plans of Mastermold.

Christopher agrees to go with Logan to Wundergor, They then head to a bar in the thieves guild of genosha where the two hire a thief and old friend Gambit and his friend Morph to help them get to wundergor (By this point we are assuming that Logan has had his memories return and knows who Gambit is)
Meanwhile, Rogue has been imprisoned at the sentinal base and has resisted giving the location of the mutant base in wundergor. Bolivar Trask, the Master-mold base commanding officer and Bastion's superior, tries to coax information out of her by threatening to destroy wundagor and proceeds to do so by sending a fleet of sentinals there, When Logan and the others arrives at Wundagor's location, they find themselves in a field of rubble.

They follow a sentinal back to the master-mold base The group takes refuge in a command room at the station while Logan goes off by himself to disable the base. While they are waiting, they discover that Rogue is onboard and is scheduled to be executed. Gambit, Christopher, and Morph stage a rescue and free the Rogue. Making their way back to the Exit, their path is cleared by the spectacle of a fight between Wolverine and Bastion. Wolverine allows himself to be surviverly hurt so the others could escape. Wolverine is then thought to be dead when he is thrown to his death.
The Group journeys to the mutant base at "Asteroid M" at secrete base hidden in the antartic where the master-mold plans are analyzed by the Mutant rebel force and a potential weakness is found. The weakness will require a small group of mutant rebels to infiltrate the base and locate the master-mold mainframe, This is located at the main core and controls signals to all sentinals in operation.

Christopher joins the assault team earning the name Cable, while Gambit collects his reward for the rescue and leaves, despite Cable's request for him to stay. The attack proceeds when the Mastermold unleashes an army of sentinals to patrol the facility and to head towards Asteroid M after they manage to locate it, with Bastian having perfected the master-mold searching ability. The mutant rebels suffer heavy losses and, after several failed attack runs, Cable remains as one of the few surviving mutants at the master-mold base. Bastion appears with his a group of sentinal Prime's and begins attacking the few remaining rebels including Cable. Cable begins his attack run with Bastion in pursuit as the Master-Mold sentinals are approaches firing range of Asteroid M. As Bastion is about to fire at Cable's ship, Gambit arrives in the and attacks Bastion, sending Bastion falling to his presumed death. Guided by something Logan had told him to about being an X-Man, Cable fires a successful shot which destroys the Master-Mold Mainframe seconds before it the attack on the Asteroid M, Later Rogue instructs Cable and Gambit that she is going to reform the X-Men in memory of Wolverine who gave his life so others could survive.

X-Men 5: Day's Of Future Past
-----------------------------
Despite their victory over the MRA soldiers with the destruction of the Master-Mold, the Mutant Alliance has been driven out of their base, establishing a new base on the remote island known as Providence. Bastion, having become obsessed with finding Cable, has multiple sentinals probes dispatched throughout the world, one of which lands on Providence. While patrolling near the base, Cable is attacked and knocked unconscious by a Sasquash a mutant who is losing his memory due to his feral ability seems to be de-evolving. Back at the base, Gambit announces his intentions to leave the mutant alliance to pay off a debt to Nathaniel Essex (much to Rogue's displeasure), but stalls to search for Cable when he doesn't return. Escaping from the sasquash's lair, Cable nearly succumbs to the cold and has a vision of his late mentor, Wolverine, who instructs him to go to the Muir Island to train under fellow x-man Henry McCoy.

Gambit finds Cable and provides shelter before they are rescued the following morning. Meanwhile, the MRA's sentinal probe locates the mutant base on providence, and Bastion orders an attack while the mutants prepare to evacuate and disperse. The MRA eventually overpower the mutants and capture the base. Gambit and Rogue escape with Artie and Morph, but are unable to head far due to the sentinals circling the area, as the two run and hide Gambit and Rogue begin to grow closer to each other. Bastion turns to several notorious mutant hunters, including Bishop, Gauntlet, Tusk and Arcade to assist in locating the Cable. Meanwhile, Cable escapes from Providence with Leech and ends up at Muir Island, where he meets BEAST. While undergoing intensive training, Cable has a premonition of Gambit and Rogue in pain and, against Beast's wishes, leaves to save his friends, promising to return to complete his training.

With MRA' sentinal's off their trail, Gambit's party sets a course for New Orleans, where he trusts the thieve's guild will help as they are runned by Gambit's old friend, Forge, unaware that they have been tracked by Bishop. Shortly after they arrive at New Orleans, Forge turns them over to Bastion to be used as bait in a trap for Cable, insisting that he was forced to do so to prevent occupation of the thieve's guild by the MRA. Gambit is the tourtured by Bastion but refuses to give any information before being taken back to the cell. Morph is subjected to a siren which hurts his ability. Cable sees these future images of his friends in pain and leaves training to help them.

Bastion decides to Hand Gambit over to Nathaniel Essex, before he does Gambit and Rogue profess their love for each other (with Gambit saying "I know" when Rogue tells him she loves him). Bastion gives Gambit to Bishop, who plans to present him to Nathaniel Essex. Forge later repents and helps Rogue and the others escape, insisting that there is still a chance to save Gambit. Unfortunately, Bishop makes off with his quarry just seconds before they get a chance to confront him, forcing them to make an escap.

Meanwhile, Cable arrives in new orleans and falls right into Bastion's trap. He and Vader engage in a fight, with Cable managing to avoid being hurt eventually bringing them to the theives guild tower. Gaining an advantage, Bastion infects Cable's hand with the legacy virus rendering powerless to fight. With Cable cornered and defenseless, Bastion goads Cable to help him on his quest to inslave all mutants, making the revelation that he is Cable's father (Scott Summers aka Cyclops). Horrified, Cable casts himself of the tower and finds himself hanging on a ledge. He makes a desperate call to Rogue, who senses Cable's ditress and with Forge's help gets him to safety. the group escapes. Forge in the medical facility helps cable by surpressing the legacy virus however he has lost his hand and is fitted with an artificial hand. Rogue and Morph set start there plans to locate Gambit...

X-Men 6: Rise Of Apocalpyse
---------------------------
Cable, having fashioned himself as An X-Man, initiates a plan to rescue the Gambit from the vile sinister scientist Dr.Nathaniel Essex with the help of Rogue, Forge, Morph, Artie, and Leech. Rogue infiltrates Essex's Laboratory on Genosha disguised as a Marauder and releases Gambit from his prison, but is caught and forced to serve as Essex's assistant. Cable arrives the next morning and allows himself to be captured, after surviving an attack with the marauders. Essex takes an interest in Cable as he believes he has become the ultimate mutant perfection. After extracting his dna, he sentances Cable and Gambit to be put to death, Cable breaks free and a large battle erupts; in the ensuing chaos, Rogue strangles Essex to death with her ability however discovers that Essex has given her new abilities of flight and super strength, Gambit inadvertently knocks Bishop into the genetic manipuator killing him. Cable, escaping with his allies, destroys the essex Laboratory. As Gambit and Rogue rendezvous with the other Mutant rebels, Cable returns to Muir Island where he finds that Beast is dying. With his last breaths, Beast confirms that the Bastion is Cable's father, Scott Summers a transformation occured when he found Jean alive he was transformed into Bastion, Upon Jean's death a child was born which was Cable, now knowing this Cable must confront him again to become a true X-Man.

The Mutant Alliance learn that the MRA has been constructing a new sentinal base, larger and more powerful than the first "Known as Apocalypse". In a plan to destroy the new weapon, Gambit is elected to lead a strike team to destroy the sentinal station's mutant locator generator hidden in the Savage Lands allowing a the mutant rebellian to fight the MRA base "Apocalpyse", the incomplete infrastructure and destroy the station from within. Returning from Muir Island, Cable joins the strike team along with Rogue and the others, but soon fears that, sensing Bastion/Cyclops presence, he may be endangering the mission.

In Savage Lands, Cable and his companions encounter a primitive yet intelligent tribe of Savange land folk and form an alliance with them. Later, Cable confesses to Rogue everything he knows about his relationship to Bastion/Cyclops, to which she and logan had already known much to Cable's surprise, but he leaves to confront Bastion/Cyclops one more time, believing that there is still good in him.
Cable and Bastion/Cyclops appear at the Apocalypse station and meet Ozymidas, who reveals that Cable's allies are walking into a trap. Back in the savage lands, the Mutant Rebels are captured by MRA, but a surprise counterattack by the Savage Land folk lead by Ka-Zar and Zabu allows the Mutant Rebels to fight back.

During the strike team's assault, Forge leads the Mutant Rebel fleet to the Apocalpyse station, only to find the station's core is still up. As a dogfight ensues, Ozymidas tempts Cable to give in to his true nature and join the horsemen of the apocalpyse, too which we reveal Bastion is one of. A fight between Cable and Bastion/Cyclops erupts, Cable cannot contain his anger and viciously attacks his father, slicing off his hand. However, he comes to his senses and, despite the Ozymidas goading, spares his father and declares himself an X-Man.

Enraged, the Ozmydias transforms into the mutant being known as Apocalpyse, and begins to slowly kill Cable with his ability. Unable to bear the sight of his son's torture any longer, Bastion/Cable repents, becoming Scott Summers once more. He turns on apocalpyse and casts him into the mutant search mainframe which electricutes him to his death, but cyclops is mortally wounded. At his request, Cable removes Cyclops's mask to see his father for the first and last time, . Having seen his son with his own eyes and his mutant ability now gone, cyclops dies, finally at peace.
Back at the savage lands, the mutant team finally destroys the mutant generator, allowing the mutant Rebel fleet to launch a final assault on the Apocalpyse station. Forge leads the remaining team deep into the station's core and fires at the main reactor, causing it to collapse. Cable escapes on an with his father's body before the station explodes, and Forge escapes back to savage lands, That evening, Cable returns to Savage Lands and cremates his father's armor on a funeral pyre. The entire mutant community celebrates the fall of the MRA. Cable the sees Wolverine from a distances who had survived his inital encounter with bastion. He tells Cable to help Rogue form the new Xavier instatue on Genosha...
Several months later we see the Xavier school for the gifted re-opened. Which the x-men now, Rogue, Gambit, Cable, Morph, Leech, Artie as the new wave of x-men...
Thee End...

I agree... in my initial X4 idea, her development, would have her powers return much stronger and send Bobby into a coma, then she flees to the Morlocks where they're all deformed, and she meets Gambit, and learns to appreciate herself, and be more accepting of her abilities=a more confidant sassy Rogue, whom actually starts to use them offensibly, especially more so in the final war of X6
