Diana really was a kid. I think she was 19 when Charles first met her, while he was 31. Then she was 20 when he married her and he was 32 by then. Not that 12 years is necessarily a big age gap, but they were at completely different stages of their life at the time. He was Cambridge educated while she didn't even have any O-levels, and he had been working a while, while she was just starting out. But she did manage to step up well and embrace the limelight even though she was initially a shy girl.

It's a shame Diana never got to see her grandchildren or even her children's weddings.
