The marketing department for WB Canada were reviewing the marketing campaign for TDK, seeing what worked and failed etc.. Long story short, they received the email sent out by Nolan to the company.

Nolan is pushing for R-rated film and a female villain. He wants it really dark and violent. As for the female villain, he wants her to be vicious. WB may give him the green light on the R-rated film, depending on the boxoffice take.

I don't think they should go all-out for an R rating. I wouldn't be outright against it, but I don't think it's necessary.

As for the vicious female villain... it's funny. I was just thinking today that Poison Ivy could have real potential as a villainess for the third film.

This seems... Suspect. I doubt we'll ever see an R rated Batman movie.

I'll believe it when we get official word.

Where's the evidence?

Exactly.

It will take years to make BB3, so he probably doesn't have a clear idea where to take it now. And why would he e-mail WB? I'm sure they'd have a meeting about this.

Good point. Midnite, what was the source for this info?

It was an email the person received. Most likely it was a forward within the headoffice at WB Canada. He works in the marketing department.

This report sounds bogus, but the idea of using a female villain might be the best way to follow up the The Dark Knight.

Riddler and Catwoman, anyone?

That's why Nolan is aiming for a female villain. The hype for TDK is crazy.

How many female villains are there for Batman?
Catwoman, Talia Al Gul, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. Anymore?

They could use the character from Mask of the Phantasm.

I always wondered how a live Phantasm would look like !!!

My top pick for a female VILLAIN would be a Nolanised take on Poison Ivy. Though I'd also like to see Catwoman show up as a love interest. Don't know if that'd make things too cluttered, but you could draw some interesting thematic parallels with the two new women in Bruce's life.

Ivy? it could work, but I think Catwoman's a more important and deep character, if we don't have two face in the 3rd film, she could make an awesome main villainess, and more if nolan wants her to be vicious and that stuff, and if we add Batman's in love with her alter ego, Selina Kyle, we have a complex, great story

As nice as that R-rating sounds (I actually want to see Poison Ivy more than Catwoman, simply because she is screaming for a make-over after B&R), until I see evidence or an announcement I call shenanigans on this would-be report.

An R rating isn't necessary. It would just mean more blood.

a female villain? Well probably. I mean they do need some more women.

Especially considering what happens to Rachel in this one.

I honestly think that the third one is probably gonna suck. A sequel to the Dark Knight is going to be very hard.

Sounds like an overhyped, attention-****ic newb who's head is dumped in R-rated voilence and thinks every movie from Pooh Bear to Transformers deserves R-rated treatment.

Sorry if I don't believe you, but I want evidence before I'll believe this. Especially after Nolan says he's not even gonna think about BM3 yet.

Sounds too suspicious...

"Oh yeah!!! Therez a email thats sayes that The Batman 3 will bee rateed R! And btw, theres gonna bee a vicious girl villain!"

Like I said, sounds like someone who thinks all action films need to be R and thinks Catwoman needs to be in BM3...

Seriously people, Catwoman will not be a villain... the studios not gonna take that risk after the Halle Berry treatment (film problem, not actress problem). Makes me think that people want Catwoman as a villain for the sole purpous as eyecandy... they want something to lust after.

Phantasm would be cool...but I'm sure he can do things without a R-rated film...look at the things with Joker, Two-Face...a R-rated movie doesn't mean "an awesome movie that's the most violent".

And John Nolan said that it's unlikely Catwoman will be used in the 3rd film. Because they want to use villians that were never used before.

spideyman101, ok, lets recapitulate, did the studios didn't kept using Batman after B&R which i consider was a thousand times worst than CINO, they just waited some time (8 years) to use him again, and if i'm not wrong, BB3 is planned to b released in 2011, 8 years after CINO,

I think this is a load of bollocks, to be honest. Besides, if TDKs reviews are anything to go by, a sequel can push the boundaries and still remain a PG13. A female villian would be a welcome change howevers.
