Wii is the fastest-selling UK console
Tuesday 12-Dec-2006 11:02 AM "The fastest selling HOME console in history" Nintendo tells CVG

First it was 50,000 units sold in 12 hours. Now Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii rocketed past the 100k mark in its first weekend in UK, destroying the previous record of 70,000 units set by the Xbox 360. Unlucky Microsoft.

The Wii is clearly rocking but if you hope to buy one without a pre-order, you might still be in for a few weeks wait. Stores across the country are completely sold out, and with many of them still having to fulfil a long backlog of pre-orders, they don't expected to have unit available for immediate purchase until January.

PS3 overtakes 360 in Japan after a month
Tuesday 12-Dec-2006 12:18 PM PS3 sells more in its first month than Xbox 360 manages in a year

Recent hardware sales figures for Japan reveal that the PS3 has sold more than 187,000 consoles since its launch on November 17 - already trouncing Xbox 360, which has only managed to sell 110,000 units in the past year.

Oh dear. We all knew gamers in the Far East weren't too hot on the American-made console, but it still comes as quite a swiftly-dealt blow. But our friends over at PSW magazine are happy again.

Still, at least the original Xbox is still selling - an astonishing 11 consoles were swiped off shelves by terrifyingly eager Japanese gamers in the week of November 27 to December 3. Yes, ELEVEN! It's unstoppable.

Not a big deal to me

Me either.

I prefer the American game system and American muscle to Japanese systems and rice burners. Except them damn Pokemon......those god damn games are so annoyingly addictive.:oldrazz:

How about America, whats its sales numbers?

There's a seperate thread for that. But roughly...

Xbox360....8,300,000+/-
PS3...........420,000+/-
Wii.............1,200,000+/-

although the wii has 1/8 of the 360's profit...it has not even been out for a month...I don't think.

A year head start and already, Microsoft lost the Japanese market. That's kind of sad really.

I think Microsoft is on it's way of heading into 3rd place this gen.

It'll be first in my house when I get a 360. That's all that matters to me

Japan is mostly full of shy, inept losers who have seriously ****ty taste. Kinda like the sony boards here. So I don't and never will give a toss about what they think.

And I live in UK, and sadly, the majority of people here are ******s.

Sad but true folks.

Japan has some great cuisine, it gave us one of the best directors ever, and some damn good manga and anime series.

What videogame system they purchase doesn't affect me at all.

It more than likely does. If 360 was more popular in Japan, you'd be seeing more Japanese games make it over to the US. Whether you'd consider that a good or bad thing I don't know, but poor sales in Japan do affect other markets, particularly given Japan is such a big video games market.

I don't care if a game is Japanese, American or whatever. What matters to me is if I enjoy playing the game.

If others buy it or not has no effect on my enjoyment of a game or the game machine it runs on.

The original Xbox flopped big time in Japan and it still came in 2nd position worldwide. Your statement of the poor sales in Japan affecting other territories is both ignorant and ridiculous.

My statement regarding other territories was in relation to games. The overall composition of games on the X-Box is affected by poor sales in Japan.

American Company like Microsoft will not sell in Japan, no matter how good the system is. Havent you notice you dont see any GMC, Ford, Cadillac, Chevy's in Japan! Even if it half priced those people will not buy it!

In fairness, US cars are known for being very environmentally unfriendly, and generally, just bad.

Ok BMW, Benz, Lambo, Jag, Range Rover, etc...

"Overall composition"? LOL, still didn't stop the Xbox from having more great games than the GC, which did sell more than the Xbox in Japan. You're really reaching there.

But great sales for the Xbox and poor sales for the Gamecube in North America, Europe, and Australia made up for the Xbox's flop. At the moment we are seeing that the Wii is not going to end up like the Gamecube and in one month's time after a year's head start, the Xbox 360 already lost in a major market.

Me thinks that art debateable.

The Gamecube had a lot of great games like Super Smash Bros. Melee., the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, and others.

The Xbox had Halo, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Fable, Dead or Alive 3, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and others.

The main difference is that a majority of Nintendo's awesome games were first party and Microsoft had a good blend of great first party and third party games. That helped the Xbox out a lot outside of Japan....third party support. That and online capabilites which Nintendo practically downright rejected.

I hope the big N supports online support more this generation.

I want online SSB :cmad:

Yes, but the 360 already has a 7 million lead over Wii and an almost 8 million lead over the PS3. Even with holiday launch period sales figures, the Wii still couldn't even come close to narrowing the gap. And don't tell me the Wii isn't going to end up like the GC just because it did well at launch. So did the GC. I remember sales for the GC and Xbox being almost neck-to-neck at their respective launches, but that certainly didn't help the GC now, did it?
