Jor-El ideals and values will live on in Kal-El. That way Kal-El becomes the embodiment of what defined Jor-El.

Yep, and another line from Jor-El clears things up further: "You will make my strength your own; see my life through your eyes." In the story, it is a blessing passed down from father to son, impating the hopes, dreams, and desires of the father for his son to become wise and powerful, and honor the legacy.

It is a saying which means "As the son grows, and becomes a father himself, the father watches him like a son with his children." That may or may not be what was intended for STM, but I believe that was the original way that saying was taken. It also could mean "as the fatehr watches the son grow up to be a man, he himself becomes a child watching the process happen."

That's how I took it. The father (Superman) will actually learn from the son (Jason), the new generation. He'll watch him with childlike awe.

I just took it that Jor-El wants Kal-El to grow up to have the same ideals and principles as him and then the father and son will be the same person, and be proud of each other.
