Hey, I really need some songs to help me forget about this girl that's basically casting a shadow over my entire existence. Just in case anybody else feels that way, I thought I'd start this thread.

Don't want to bore you guys, but I should probably offer some context. I started falling for this girl while I was going out with her best friend (I know, lousy thing to do, but I was pretty unhappy in that relationship...they're not friends anymore either, nothing to do with me). There was a definite vibe, I ended up telling her I was attracted to her, and she said she was attracted to me too. But then after one phone call that seemed to go well, she ignored my calls until I finally confronted her and she told me she couldn't stab a friend in the back. I avoided her for months while she found some *****ebag boyfriend, then we eventually reconciled and became friends again. But deep down I still liked her. That eventually came out, and this time she said she could never do anything to make her boyfriend feel unloved (yeah, I can't imagine what that must be like). I told her I couldn't be friends with her or hang out as long as she was going out with this guy. I've tried to avoid her again, deleted her as a friend on Facebook. But the few times I DO see her - we share a similar group of friends - I can't stop thinking about her afterward, even though all I want to do is forget this chick.

I know this is unhealthy and it's been a Golden Rule of mine since high school never to obsess over one girl, because doing so vastly increases one's chances of failure. A wise man once said the only surefire way to get over a woman is to have sex with 10 other women. But until I get to that point, I need something to get me over her. That's where music comes in.

Here are some songs that express my feelings pretty well; anybody else have suggestions for me? Most of these tunes are angry, but I need songs that will basically tell me that she wasn't worth my time and I shouldn't care. What I don't want are songs that make me think about her in a positive sense, because that'll keep me in this pathetic state of infatuation that I'm trying so desperately to escape.

Although most of these are heavy metal, any genre is cool.

The metal list:

Accept - Losing More Than You've Ever Had
Anthrax - Medusa
Bathory - Reaper
Black Sabbath - Evil Woman
Danger Danger - Beat The Bullet

KISS - I've Had Enough (Into The Fire)
KISS - Reason To Live
Manowar - Hail and Kill
Megadeth - Last Rites/Loved to Deth
Megadeth - Tornado of Souls
Mercyful Fate - Welcome Princess of Hell
Metallica - Sad But True
Mötley Crüe - Chicks = Trouble
Mötley Crüe - Too Young To Fall In Love
Nightwish - Bye Bye Beautiful
Ozzy Osbourne - Flying High Again

Warlock - Burning The Witches
W.A.S.P. - Ballcrusher
W.A.S.P. - Kill Your Pretty Face
White Lion - Broken Heart
Whitesnake - Fool For Your Loving

And a few non-metal picks:
Buddy Holly - It Doesn't Matter Anymore
The Muppets - Movin' Right Along
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

P.S. If for some reason an admin decides to delete this post, can you first tell me WHY so I can make the necessary edits? I'm sick of that happening for no reason.

Alright, dude:

First off, the old school stuff.

Get the albums "Electric" and "Sonic Temple" by the Cult. You definitely need to listen to 'Love Removal Machine', 'Sun King', and 'Fire Woman'.

Def Leppard's album "High & Dry" for songs 'Let It Go', 'Hit and Run', 'Bringing On the Heartbreak', and the whole album is good for this, dude.

Now the new school stuff.

Try Armor For Sleep's albums "What To Do When You Are Dead" (songs: 'Car Underwater' and 'Remember To Feel Bad') and "Smile For Them" (songs: 'Run Right Back In' and 'End Of The World').

Then get yourself some Blink 182. Get albums "Enema of the State" and "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket". The songs are light and fast and the lyrics are killer and spot on.

Hope this helps.

The Howard the Duck soundtrack by Thomas Dolby. The story of a woman and a duck who were in love, but were kept apart by the simple fact that he was a duck, and even if you are a sentient organism who has travelled to earth by couch, he is a paraduckx...if you are a duck you are f***ed because no-one will f*** a duck.
Maybe it was because it was too tickley due to all the feathers, and he thought he was being laughed at for his performance, but he did his best, and that is all we can do with what we are blessed, the duck failed the test, and now all he is good for is a novelty toy for bathtimes.
anyway,...that is what I get when I listen to the album.

Check out "Space Bound" off Em's new album. Powerful **** man

I still haven't listened to The Cult (other than that one song that's on the radio all the time). I should get started, because I'm a huge Guns N' Roses fan and I believe Matt Sorum used to be The Cult's drummer.

Def Leppard's High n' Dry is an old favourite of mine, and I haven't listened to it in a while. I love the songs you mentioned, but that album is full of underrated classics like "Lady Strange", "Switch 625", "Another Hit and Run", etc.

I loved Blink back in high school, and I still listen to them occasionally if I need some tuneful punk pop. I'll bet they would be good to listen to right now based on your recommendation.

And regarding Armor for Sleep, I've never heard of them, but they look interesting (according to Wikipedia, the band is "renowned for their blend of alternative rock to atmospheric emo and dream pop"). I'll check them out!

Good deal. Since I've had some time to think about it more........

"Copper Blue" by Sugar ----- especially the first 2 tracks: 'The Act We Act' & 'A Good Idea'.

.....and....(I don't know how I could've forgotten these guys)....

"The Color & The Shape" by the Foo Fighters ------ just listen to 'Monkey Wrench' over and over. And 'Space'. And 'Everlong'. {Dude, just get your hands on anything and everything Foo Fighters!!!!!!!!!}

Yeah, I think you'll like Armor For Sleep.

I'd also recommend The Ataris' album Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits for unrequited-love themed pop punk.

Metallica covering "Die, Die, Die My Darling"??

Seriously, give Joe Satriani's "Cryin" a listen.

Speaking of Metallica, I've been listening to them a lot lately. Other than the classic stuff, I always had a bit of a soft spot for Load, and tunes like "Until It Sleeps" and "Hero of the Day" seem to go down pretty well right now (the line "mama they try and break me" seems particularly appropriate).

Also, I listened to that Ataris album and it's really good. I had always known them just from their inferior cover of "Boys of Summer", but they play some damn good punk pop.

End is Forever and Look Forward to Failure are also good album of theirs. I'd pass on So Long, Astoria though.

Try an album called "Black Love" by The Afghan Whigs.
