From The Playlist:
A rumor we heard earlier this week, but neglected to report (because it seemed a little thin), has been validated. Well, sort of. Earlier this week we heard that Sony is interested in "Inglourious Basterds" star Christoph Waltz for the villain character in Marc Webb's 3D reboot of "Spider-Man." The same piece of information is now in this week's pages of Production Weekly: Sony interested in Waltz (presumably this is the Lizard if the rumors are correct).

he'll probably be norman osborn... but i can buy him as lizard, doc ock, mysterio or chameleon.

Him being in this movie would make me even more excited whoever he plays.

Awesome news. Looks like this reboot might be good after all

Waltz is currently in The Green Hornet, so this would make his second superhero movie. That's why I think he's more likely to play The Lizard than Norman Osbourne. He probably doesn't want to do too many of these type of movies. Just play a villain in one movie and then move on.

This would be great. I just hope they don't kill Connors in the first movie (or any of the movie's), that would be a horrible mistake.

He's either Curt Connors or Norman Osborn, almost no doubt in my mind.

please be Norman Osborn. He is a great actor and playing the bastard known as the Green Goblin would be a real treat to us Spider-man fans.

He could be Curt or Norman id rather Norman though....

I doubt it's Norman Osborn. We just endured a Goblin trilogy. I reckon it's Curt Connors.

Doesn't mean Norman will be the big bad baddie the whole time... I can honestly see them waiting for Gabby to be a villian for a second or 3rd film hell even 4th.

I doubt they're even planning that far ahead. Right now they just want to make the reboot a success. One way to do that is to use a villain not seen before, like Batman Begins did. In this case, The Lizard.

I would like Norman being a supporting cast member for the first movie or so if you're gonna do the Goblin again in a later movie.

maybe he'd actually be Dmitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon?

Who’s up for Christoph Waltz as Dr. Octopus? He has the looks.

I am going to guess it is for Connors because I am still thinking this is not a reboot.

If they're going with Connors and IF Peter is in college, this is what I call a 'soft' reboot ala The Incredible Hulk or Superman Returns. Where it could maybe a direct sequel but not. I can see that happening and if it's good, it could be the real 'Spider-Man 3'. haha.

I'm not seeing him as Connors, but he could be good for Norman Osborn, just Osborn during the whole movie though. But Connors makes sense, since Peter is in college.

I think he looks too old to be Connors. He's better suited to play Norman IMO.

Well, at least Spider-Man would be his first superhero movie that isn't horrible in every way. Not to mention the main character would actually be a superhero.

But if this is true it is good news. He made IB.

He'd make a good Norman or Connors but as mentioned, it's probably Connors. I just hope Waltz doesn't get type cast as villains.
