It seems Sony has trademarked a new brand name at the Japanese patent office, apparently for a controller. And it's called..."P oo S". Not quite unlike the aftermath of the Wii announcement, the jokes are already rolling in and let's be frank, that's no surprise.

Are Sony hoping to follow and succeed with the strategy Nintendo has utilized? As their rivals, do they hope an at first alienating name will sooner or later become highly identifiable, or is this just another silly move for the sake of publicity being creative?

Regardless of that, the source states the "oo" part could be the infinity sign. Or it might represent the two analog sticks on a Dual Shock controller.

While it's doubtable "P oo S" will stir the media as heavily as Wii, Sony haters surely get another piece of meat to chew on with this. It seems we have to wait and see if the patent bears actual importance as the Playstation 3 launch draws near. Lots of things can still change...

So take your pick, either the PS3 controller is a Puss or a piece of ****.

....

The **** are these people thinking when they come up with these names?

Seriously.. You'd think they learn from Wii... Or at least poll people for feedback. They just.. like.. don't put any thought into it whatsoever.

I was thinking that it might be the infinity symbol before I got to that part of the article. Anything else makes no sense.

:(
I wish at least that much thought had gone into the name.

Sony should have stayed with the rumble feature instead of the tilt sensor :o

Im glad i bought a 360, i dont know what the hell Sony is thinking.

Right now, somewhere, The Artist Formerly Known As Prince is laughing at Sony for thinking of such a stupid name...

You know, Sony, just calling it the Playstation 3 controller... works fine...

Eh. Nintendo's strategy in using the "Wii" name was brilliant; perhaps the same can result for Sony...

But probably not.

Who is it that sig says something like "PS3 - The best parts of the 360 and Wii in one" ?

That's becoming more true each day...

The controller looks just like the previous PS controllers, now it just has an added function. Why does it need a name?

PooS... Piece off of S#!t. Puss.

they make it way too easy.

plural of poo. there's another one.

seriously though, have these people no shame?!

IDIOTS!........they prob. wont change it like wii never did.

well, at least their controller name makes SOME sense (as much sense as "wiimote" can make) given the context. but this... this is more random than Wii. not to mention a shameless ripoff.

I could lay down some jokes here, but I think they're all obvious.
