Spanish National Anthem....

I wish you well on your education, but will you leave when your visa is up or will you become an illegal? I'm not trying to be rude or incite you it's a valid question. Who will you be? A hypocrite or go through proper channels for American citizenship if you so choose?

Now on to your statement..many Mexicans are of Native lineage yes, but so are many Americans, myself I am of Seminole and Cherokee lineage when my slave ancestors ran away to florida and mixed with the Natives who took them in. So my claim is no less valid than yours to being of this land of the Americas.

The government for all the issues I have with it is right on this issue, we most protect our borders. Not only illegals come through the border, drugs and other contraband to also.

Now with the heightened threat of terrorism you want us to allow anyone to freely cross our border?

To the illegals already here I understand their plight and in a way I cannot help but sympathize with them. I'm African-American our history has been wraught with pain and suffering and injustice, yet illegals are not Americans they barely if at all pay taxes. A good deal of their income goes back to Mexico and not to the American economy.

Your President Vincente Fox knows this, his pay check is partially funded by the American economy and the drugs that pass through his borders to ours. Then Mexico laws are very much the opposite to ours when it comes to immigration more hostile yet America bends over backwards to accumidate illegals.

These people got it good compared to a blackman in Selma, Alabama in 1965 and he was American! So to me if they do not truly imbrace our culture and want to learn English they need not be here.
I am a college student. I don't need illegal means.

And you should really know much on what the illegals do and where our country stands.

I don't have the latitude and longitude memorized, so I can't say exactly where our country stands, or rather lies, on this little blue-green planet.

Just cause your a student means nothing other than your here legally until you finish school.

I think I understand where your President stands, not necessarily all Mexican citizens. Yet it is a fact that many illegals send a great deal of their income back to Mexico and have very little alligance to America and do not in alot of cases learn english even if they have been here for a decade.

They are the largest receipeance of welfare and eat up much of the taxes that are exclusively for American citzens to include social security.

I understand that they work laborous jobs that most Americans, do not care to do. Yet we will if it means food on the table for our children. Illegals are cheap labor so it makes sense to hire them (corporate thinking)

It's a viscous cycle and yet in still these people want to have America change it's identity to there benefit. Not gonna happen your not American plain and simple.

Hey Cor, I forget....are you Apache, Crow, Blackfoot, Inuet, or Asian?:)

There are jobs that citizens want to do, but are then told to go home "because the illegals are going to work cheaper".

A recent example of this has happened in the Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast, and was reported about earlier this month.

Is it like the same feeling I get when I see a cracked out Whitney Houston singing the anthem?

More or less, they believe it hurts the cause more than helps it. Which I agree.

Well at least you don't have to worry about the chance of Flavor Flav campaigning for Barrack Obama if he ever wants to run for President.

Russian national anthem > American national anthem, english or spanish

The Russian national anthem isn't even original, it directly copied from the Soviet national anthem. They literally replaced the Soviet Union with Russia and took out the references to communism.

But yeah it kicks ass, but it makes me sad that when Putin made this the national anthem, it just further shows his desire to restore the Soviet Union.

It's like the Germans; they still use the Nazi anthem, they just use a different verse.

It's not an anthem, but as far as countries' patriotic songs in general go, "Rule Britannia" is the best.

The USA Athemn is not that good either, as mention before, it uses an old irish drunk song.
Yeah, it's not one of the better anthems, but the Spanish version makes it worse. I dunno why, it just sucks.

Mexico's Athem is better. Second only to the French one(rated by the artistical point of view).
Despite being completely unoriginal, the Russian one is the best.

Most average USA citizens are racist and/or ignorant as hell
Drop the racist part at least. You can keep the ignorant one. Because the average American is a dumbass.

That was our ****ing land to begin with, you traitors and back stabbers:down
As for Texas and the land despute involving that, both nations had a legitimate claim, the Mexican-American started because both sides thought it was a good idea to send troops their. NO ONE SHOULD SEND TROOPS INTO A DISPUTED AREA OF TERRITORY. IT WILL ONLY CAUSE TROUBLE!

As for the land we took after the war, we won that because we kicked your countries ass :)

As for the Gadsen Purchase, we legitimately bought that land, so lay off our backs

i think just like the other thread..the world is driven by money...once people can speak the same language..they can make more money.... it just so happens we have the most...im sure if china became less secluded and flexed its power there would be a surge of chinese speakers too.... it just flows like that ..

see? this is Kind of what I don't get.
If hispanics speak english in your country, some people , or, most people get upset.
but when comfornted with the Idea that for the most part Americans want to be spoken to in english, even if they are just visiting all that can be said is

"we have the most money".

1.- well, just so you know, they do not "learn" english, because for the most part they have to be "underground" within their own communities for fear of deportation, some, of course, even legal immigrants just never learn because they are set in their ways, but I can surely exmplify with Japanese, chinese , Italian and Korean people, it's not a "mexican" problem, for some reason though, it seems people want to make it seem as if it was.

2.- you seem to confuse immigrants as a whole with "illegal" immigrants who by all accounts are employed at 97%, and are for the most part, unable to get "welfare".

3.- you know, I keep hearing this, and yet I have never seen a piece of legislation that will force you to learn or use spanish, I fail to see how singing the anthem in spanish is "changing" your "culture"* which happens to be an "amalgam" of many "foreign" cultures. please do clarify as to how either immigrants legal or illegal are changing the US "culture" especially for their benefit.

*all quote marks after these are to be read making air quotes in a comical dr. evil fashion.

No, it's not a direct translation. They purposely changed them to put in a different message.

From your article:
Called "Nuestro Himno" - "Our Anthem " - the Spanish version rewrites some of the English version. For instance, the second stanza says, "My people keep fighting. It's time to break the chains."
