***WARNING! THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN MAJOR SPOILERS FOR EVENTS UP TO THE LATEST EPISODE OF ARROW, AND HEAVY SPECULATIONS ON FUTURE EVENTS***

With that out of the way:

At the end of the episode, we see Laurel ask Oliver to make her a promise shortly before she dies. The question though is this:

What do you think Laurel asked of Oliver, and when do you think this will get revealed?

The immediate reaction I've seen are people speculating/dreading that it would be along the lines of Oliver reconciling with Felicity, etc and this holds some credence not just from a meta/behind-the-scenes perspective but also given what they were just talking about.

However, I personally think/hope that it is that Laurel is asking Oliver to promise not to kill Damien Darhk and that he would instead face trial for his crimes. The reasons for this are that it would be in keeping with her character and identity as a lawyer, would be her continuing to advocate Oliver's "no killing" policy, and would serve as a nice counterpoint to Felicity (and likely, everyone else) saying that Damien needs to die.

A third possibility I can think of is Laurel asking Oliver to give up being the Green Arrow and instead to find a way to be a hero in the light. This would be building on some of the themes in this episode and season; such as Laurel encouraging Sara to be the White Canary, Oliver straddling trying to be both at the same time and failing, as well as echo a similar choice that Laurel faced in this episode that might be serving as foreshadowing to a decision that Oliver has to face. Incidentally, it's worth pointing that despite pulling out of the race, it was explicitly pointed out that Oliver still won almost half the votes. Maybe we'll be seeing Mayor Queen in Season 5, perhaps after Ruve gets exposed as conspiring with Damien Darkh?

What do others think? Any other possibilities that I might've missed?

I don't think it would be to give up being Green Arrow. She said her being the BC made her feel alive.

"Put "Black Canary" on my tombstone. That would be sooooo cool!"

"Put "Black Canary" on my tombstone. That would be sooooo cool!"

Lol.

Though on a serious note, the events of the episode does explain why it got engraved on her tombstone; seeing as how her identity got exposed after being brought into hospital.

Help me fake my death.

I really hope this is the case. If the writers were smart and great storytellers, they could even take this to a Supermax type of thing with Laurel having her identity revealed but continuing to fight as the Black Canary.

However, I am not putting my hopes up because Marc is not a good enough writer for it and he has no love/ respect for the characters or source material.

I'm pretty sure her last request was something along the lines of "If I die, don't bring me back." or "Don't turn into the monster from the island."

Yeah, I reckon it will be something along the lines of "don't turn into a killer again", as well as telling him to use the justice system.

"Tell felicity i'm sorry I didn't ask her if it was alright to get stabbed with an arrow"

Here's the thing though, how would Laurel even know she was about to die? She was fine, with no real indication that she was going to go into cardiac arrest. So a "last" request isn't plausible unless its her faking her death... or terrible writing.

When I saw the camera move away from Oliver and Laurel, my first thought was faking Laurel's death. But with this show who knows. If they are going to try to get Oliver and Felicity back together another lie isn't the way to go.

"Tell felicity i'm sorry I didn't ask her if it was alright to get stabbed with an arrow"

Nah it's gotta be darhk that apologizes "sorry I didn't ask you before I killed your friend :csad:"

I honestly feel like they want us to suspect that they faked her death, just to keep us interested until after the break.

They debunked the fake death theory directly, so "No".
The thing is, how many people really go out and read spoilers and news articles? Yes, it's more common and easily accessible now, but I've seen so many reaction videos or reviews that all feel like something is up.

I personally don't think it's a fake out, and even if it would bring the character back, I don't know if I would want it to be, but I do think they're trying to leave the door open just a little, just in case things change in the future.

^ They've already done that with the announcement of her Earth-2 doppelganger being introduced on The Flash.

They were also pretty adamant that the Earth-1 version of the character is dead, but also stressed that we'll see her again in Vixen S2, and it's possible that we see her again in future flashbacks too.

Even as a fan of the character, I feel like it's reaching to cling to a theory that they've already directly addressed and debunked.

'You're the love of my life and every comic book says you should be with me... but I've always.. shipped... Olicity. Pls make her happy' *dies*.

That's probably how Guggenheim wrote it.

Resurrection arc should have been saved for Laurel not Sara. Show was pretty cool with Laurel finally coming into her own as Canary

Just came across this article. Typical Guggenheim, promising stuff later on to keep people invested.

We won't be hearing about this promise until next season, and I can almost guarantee it now, they did it because they wanted to leave the door open to bringing her back, but they want to test the waters first. If fans don't respond well to the remainder of the season, they will find some way to say they faked the death. If not, it's going to be some cheesy promise or something that really means nothing.

My first thought was that Ollie killed Laurel himself. Either he pulled the plug on her life support machine or suffocated her as an "act of mercy". I thought maybe that was her request.

I'm also on the team that she asked for Oliver to be happy, not let darkness consume him and not give up on felicity... you know that's what the writers really want.....
