Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Speedball Coming To Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D?

Soooo, no one is interested in this possible development and what it could possibly mean (Civil War)?

I don't think there's going to be a Civil War storyline. Given the thrust of the movies, it would be a distraction there and it's going to be meaningless without participation of the movie characters. The world's not set up for it and I doubt there's going to be any effort to set it up until after Avengers 3 at the earliest. It also shouldn't happen unless Sony participates or the rights revert because Norman Osborn's participation is actually quite a good part of the storyline.

As for Speedball, he seems like the kind of character they could get on the show. His superhero name is extremely problematic to use these days, but the character himself is fine. But without any official ties to the show, I'm not going to take a context-less tweet for granted.

The Civil War thing was just a thought, considering Speedball's connection and transformation (Fran Kranz's character goes through some similar character arc in Dollhouse). It was just a thought they could lay the groundwork for a Superhero Registration Act in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. eventually. (Avengers 3 I believe will revolve around the Infinity Gauntlet)

As for Fran Kranz, my daughter who follows him, says that he was in talks with Joss Whedon about a role on the show, The tweet (that was immediately deleted) could mean something.

I wouldn't mind Speedball on the show. Like others, I couldn't care less about the Civil War storyline, but there is potential for a character like Speedball.

a.) because there's not likely to be a New Warriors movie any time soon, nor would Speedball likely be used in the MCU elsewhere.
b.) it would be nice to see that not everyone who gets super powers becomes a villain (Absorbing Man, in some ways Deathlok, and eventually Blizzard and Graviton). Some young scientist who gets quirky powers and decides to try to use them for good would make a great foil for Donnie Gill, if he is ever a major antagonist for the show.
c.) we don't need to see the exploits or formation of the New Warriors, but Speedball parting from the AOS team saying he wanted to find others like himself would be a nice set up for any future development. Maybe Skye or Coulson could give him the names of some other newly 'gifted' young people for him to seek out on his own.

I wouldn't really be disappointed if this rumor turned out to be nothing, but if I had to pick a side, I endorse the idea. The only major con I can see is putting his powers on screen and making them look good, but Absorbing Man was perfectly executed so I'm not too worried that they could figure something out.

This needs to happen. I can now picture no one else as Speedball.

Also, I just remembered, wasn't it said that Hydra's M.O. regarding "gifted"s was to [BLACKOUT]recruit or exterminate[/BLACKOUT] them? (I don't remember if it was said in the last episode, or in a preview for next week's episode).

If that's going to be a major subplot throughout this season, Robbie Baldwin would be a great character to base an episode around (although that seems to be pretty much what Episode 3 is going to be about, but with Donnie Gill: [BLACKOUT]SHIELD trying to get to gifteds before HYDRA[/BLACKOUT]).

^ Preview for next week, fyi

He probably wouldn't be involved with Joss Whedon if he's going on the show. Jed Whedon perhaps, but Joss is too busy with his movie right now.

I'd thought I'd bump this up again, in light of recent news. :cwink:

I've just been re-playing the Civil War/Ultimate Alliance game and Speedball is easily the most interesting character and one who could be very good... they use him in this show and then for the movies use Penance...

He's one of the characters I've wanted to see them do on the show. His powers would be awesome in live action!

The actor is a good fit for the character. I really want this to happen now.

If done right, otherwise it could look atrocious.
