I know there's another Civil War thread. But I don't know if there's one focusing just on Speedball's situation.

I just read "Frontline" #4....... This guy just seems to have no feelings for all of those school kids.

I personally think he screwed up. I know he wasn't the villian that exploded. But he didn't assess the potential danger either. Why didn't he know what damage Nitro could do? Why did they engage these guys in a frickin' "neighborhood"?

This was not like a battle that just happened outta nowhere. This a planned TV show. This was for kicks....trivial at best.

I think Baldwin is guilty of criminal neglience at best.

His mom's words really did it for me. He really came off as a jerk.

Thoughts??

How did Speedball learn to fight so well??

wasnt it said in the latest wolverine ish (havnt read it yet), that nitro had his powers boosted? i dont think he could always take out a whole town like that.
also, i'd act exactly like speedball has -- he hasnt done anything wrong. you can say what you like, but unless shield is involved how often do you see heroes planning and assessing their operations - theyve always been more of a reactionary force. they found some bad guys, they reacted. it went wrong. its happened before, it'll happen again - they just used this one for the civil war.

neither because I honestly don't give 2 flying pucks about Speedball

I think he feels remorse, he is just in the anger stage. Or he is covering it up, protecting himself, with acting angry and hostile.
Plus, even though it seemed like they just went after these bad guys for ratings, they are blaiming him for everything and using him as a scape goat.

thats bull man he didnt do anything wrong it wouldve been wrong to allow the threat to continue to exist and anyways who determines who shouldve dealt with the situation what makes the avengers more worthy to have dealt with the situation

He is coming off pretty jerky. He should be softened up a bit if we are supposed to be sympathetic. While what Nitro did is not his direct responsibility, he created the situation and allowed for it to escalate out of his team's control.

That's all I'm saying. And what kind of plan does not include assessing what your enemies can do?

And why not lure them out into the woods somewhere or to some other isolated place before you attack?? It's a neighborhood!! Did they even alert the people who live right next door??

And bottom line....this was for TV. Ratings.......

Those little kids are dead because they didn't take extra precautions.

The whole town wasn't taken out. A few good neighborhood blocks were. And even so, you know that you're facing a guy that can explode and you don't try to get him isolated??? Great plan.

When given the time time, they always do.

Not always. That's being too general. And when innocents are exposed, heroes always try to get them to safety first or isolated the threat..

Being too general? Like calling comic books racists because they dont have enough black cosmic characters for you?:o :o :o :o :o

I'm guessing he's acting the way he is as a defense mechanism. The rest of the world hates you, why join in?

I think he feels bad the kids died and all but doesnt think he should take the rap for it, and seemingly nobody is going after Nitro except for Wolverine. People just blame Speedball, though he set the wheels in motion for the Stamford disaster he wasnt responsible for it. Its like if you hired a guy to fix a leak in your roof and in the process of fixing it the roof caved and killed you, is it the guy who was trying to fix it fault? Partly, but not entirely. Of course theres the whole tv ratings thing, which to this day doesnt make sense since their show was cancelled.

Actually, that's not how it went down. He found the villans, his teammates warned him they were out of their league and should call in bigger guns (Seeing how those villans weren't going anywhere) and charged in to make the best episode of the entire second season. (Maybe season three? I think it was the second season though.) Reactionary? Yeah, to his vanity.

I don't think he should be sorry for what he did. it doesnt matter the reason to fight super villians as long as there fighting them..when was the last time the Avengers took a fight to someone...they usually react to something thrown at them. Plus they assest the sit. they just didnt know he was "juiced" if he wasnt no one whould have died..just gotten property damaged.

Actually, they were spotted, they had no choice but to act. Just getting the facts straight.:)

Agreed. Speedball should be disciplined somehow. But they're using him as the entire reason for the incident. Who's going after Nitro? Wolverine. Who else? The Atlanteans. Who else? NOBODY.

And the fix a leak guy would really only be at fault if he aggrivated the integrity of your room, causing the collapse. But, technically, it WOULD be the owners fault for not replacing his roof for the past 30 some odd years.

How long were they in the bushes before someone came out to empty the trash and caught them?

You know what? That's EXACTLY what I'm going to tell my victim's family.

"I don't think I should feel sorry for my irresponsible behavior."

Theres no way of knowing how long they were there. Point is, they were discussing what to do, Speedball made the ratings comment, they were spotted, they acted. You rather they ran away? Doesnt sound superheroey to me. Yes, i said superheroey.

Enough for them to have to question the situation, and for Speedball to convince them otherwise, for the camera men to get in good position, and for Namorita to go through a fairly even make up job to cover her zits. And let me tell you, makeup is NOT a quick process.

I thought Speedball deserved a firm scolding from a fellow superhero and to be forced into superhero retirement until he learns what it means to be a hero, but not the treatment he's been getting now.
Honestly its getting pathetic and old.

Does grammar really matter?
