OPEN TO BLACK

VOICE (O.S.)
We all hear stories about the Amazing Sensational Spider-Man…

The screen gradually opens to a molding wall of an ABANDONED WAREHOUSE. We travel through the halls.

VOICE (O.S.)
The friendly neighborhood web slinger who “saves” lives; “protects” the city.

We see lighting equipment lined against a wall coming into view. We draw closer and closer to it as we discover camera equipment and a black latex shoulder just beyond the corner.

VOICE (O.S.)
It is time the city knows the truth.

We round the corner to see two teenagers (THOMAS and ASHLEY) operating camera equipment pointed towards a speaking teenage super villain, BLAZE. Blaze is outfitted in a sleek, but cheap black latex costume with crudely painted flames running down the sides.

BLAZE
Spider-Man is not a hero. He is not someone to look up to. He’s a lying manipulative super villain hiding behind the cloak of a hero. It is time the city knows the truth about the man behind the mask… it is time the city knows that Spider-Man truly is…

BANG!!!! The wall BURSTS upon impact as another super VILLAIN completely lit on fire shoots through the wall!

BLAZE
(surprised)
What the hell?!

Blaze quickly stands up and looks the Villain up and down.

BLAZE
W… who are you?

The Villain folds his arms and simply laughs at him.

VILLAIN
You’ve ruined my reputation. My name is Blaze. And your days are numbered imposter!

The Villain approaches Blaze, sadistically and maniacally laughing.

BLAZE
I… I… please show mercy.

The two teenagers operating the cameras look around the room panicked.

VILLAIN
Mercy? I don’t give mercy!

Thomas CHARGES at the villain. The villain grins before he quickly turns around and GRABS Thomas YANKING him high into the air.

VILLAIN
I don’t think so.

The Villain THROWS Thomas violently across the room and sends a burst of fire shooting out towards him. Thomas SCREAMS in PAIN and AGONY.

Blaze looks on in fear…

BLAZE
No…

ASHLEY
What have you done? You bastard!!!

Spider-Man SWINGS into the room through the cracked wall and lands on a corner of the ceiling.

SPIDER-MAN
Let them go, tough guy.

The villain screams in rage and points his finger at Blaze, still quivering.

VILLAIN
He ruined me!!!!

SPIDER-MAN
You ruined yourself, flamer. Now let the kid go.

VILLAIN
Never!

The villain pulls his arm back as though to shoot a flaming projectile. Spider-Man quickly webs it.

VILLAIN
No!

SPIDER-MAN
(to BLAZE)
Get you and your girl friend, out of here, now!

BLAZE
But…

SPIDER-MAN
I’ll take him to the hospital, now go!

BLAZE
Thanks.

SPIDER-MAN
Just go!

Blaze nods his head as he follows Ashley out of the room. He glances back, hiding behind the door frame as the Villain finally breaks free of the webbing.

VILLAIN
(to Spider-Man)
I’m taking you down insect!

SPIDER-MAN
Arach-nid. Not, insect. Show me what you got.

Villain laughs as he stretches his muscles.

VILLAIN
I am so going to enjoy this.

Blaze continues to watch on, afraid and guilty as hell.

BLAZE
What have I done?

ASHLEY
Come on!

Blaze quickly runs off. Spider-Man checks the door frame, making sure Blaze is gone.

Spider-Man sends his fist back and PUNCHES the villain out. The villain lands with a THUD!

Spider-Man stretches his muscles as he casually walks towards the halls and looks both ways- Blaze and crew are no where in sight.

SPIDER-MAN
Coast is clear.

The Villain gets up and approaches Spider-Man laughing. The flames extinguish to reveal a handsome guy in his mid to late twenties. This is JOHNNY STORM.

JOHNNY
Dude, did you actually have to punch me?

Spider-Man shrugs as he enters the room and starts getting rid of the electronic equipment.

SPIDER-MAN
Had to make it look real.

Johnny Storm mock laughs at the comment.

JOHNNY
Yeah, whatever man. But, if you think I’m just going to let this go- you’re wrong…

Johnny casually places his hand on Spider-Man’s shoulder.

JOHNNY
Dead wrong.

Spider-Man looks around, confused…

SPIDER-MAN
Spider sense, tingling?

Johnny’s hand ignites on fire! Spider-Man quickly backs away. Johnny laughs.

SPIDER-MAN
Owe, that hurts!

JOHNNY
Just call it a little “eye for an eye.”
(beat)
And by the way, dude, you seriously need to work on your catch phrases.

SPIDER-MAN
And yours is any better?

Johnny laughs at the ridiculous question.

JOHNNY
Hell yeah!

Johnny puts his hand out like a magician about to perform a magic trick.

JOHNNY
Flame on!

The hand ignites in flames.

They both glance behind their shoulders as Thomas approaches them.

THOMAS
It’s over?

Spider-Man nods.

SPIDER-MAN
I doubt your friends will be playing super villain any longer.

Thomas nods.

THOMAS
Thanks and I’m sorry about…

SPIDER-MAN
Don’t worry about it.

FADE TO:
EXT. ELECTRICAL STATION

ANGLE DOWN to see a barren green field of electrical poles lined up one right after another. We see linemen working on the electrical poles.

MAXWELL DILLON, 20 years old, leans against a white work truck. He stares forward and sighs with a permanent frown. His IPod plays ‘Lonely Day’ by System of a Down.

JONATHON DILLON, mid 40s approaches him, with an angry belittling scowl on his face.

JONATHON
What do you think you’re doing?

MAXWELL
Taking a break.

JONATHON
A break? God, you have no responsibility Max.

Maxwell narrows his eyes.

MAXWELL
I’ve worked five hours straight, dad!

JONATHON
Don’t you dare raise your voice, do you hear me?

MAXWELL
Yes sir.

JONATHON
Good, now get your ass back up there.

Maxwell raises the volume on his IPod and walks off.

MAXWELL
Whatever.

Maxwell walks off, we remain at a distance. He climbs up a high hill and overlooks the environment surrounding him… caged in. The electrical poles seem to go on forever…

Maxwell looks around, feeling depressed and trapped. He sighs as he looks down towards his father chatting with a co-worker.

MAXWELL
Fcking prick…

Maxwell furiously shakes his head no as he begins to climb up an electrical pole.

EXT. DINER- NIGHT

ANGLE DOWN on a casual New York City diner. Pedestrians walk across the street on their way. Rain falls from the gray night sky above.

INT. DINER

Peter and Mary Jane sit at a table next to the rain stained window. An uncomfortable silence, to be broken by…

MARY JANE
So, how did work go today?

Peter shrugs, looks out the window.

PETER
Just the usual, you know. It’s always the same.

Mary Jane nods her head.

PETER
What about you?

MARY JANE
I got the job today.

PETER
(confused)
Job? What job?

Mary Jane sighs and laughs.

MARY JANE
You remember that movie audition I went to a couple of days ago? The Quinton Beck film, ‘Dangerous Games’?

Peter nods his head, remembering. He smiles enthusiastically.

PETER
You got the role?!

MARY JANE
You’re speaking to a new leading lady.

PETER
That’s great! Congratulations… that’s… wow.

MARY JANE
I know!
(beat)
You still need to unpack that last box, you know.

Peter laughs and nods.

PETER
I was going to get around to it.

INT. DILLON FAMILY HOME

Maxwell Dillon walks into his old, poor, house soaking from the rain outside. His father walks in behind him and closes the door. ANITA DILLON walks towards the entrance and welcomes the men home.

ANITA
(to Maxwell)
How was work today?

Maxwell continues to walk up the stairs.

JONATHON
(angry)
Your mother asked you a question!

Maxwell stops dead in his tracks and shakes his head, furious. He looks back towards his mother was a glaring gaze.

MAXWELL
(sarcastic)
It went great.

Maxwell continues walking away. He reaches his room with a STAY OUT sign clearly nailed to the door. Maxwell enters his room and SLAMS the door shut.

INT. DILLON’S FAMILY HOME- MAXWELL’S BEDROOM

Maxwell looks around his room. The room shows signs of a deeply disturbed and troubled young man.

Maxwell approaches his desk and slumps down onto a swinging desk chair. He presses play on his CD player and starts blasting the song ’Sweet Dreams’ by Marilyn Manson.

He reaches into a drawer under the middle portion of his desk and takes out a bag of weed. Maxwell looks at it with a smile spread across his face. He begins to inhale the weed, getting high. He drops the bag back down onto his desk.

We quickly circle around him as he lays his head back in a deeply free state of mind and swings counterclockwise to us. Outside of his room we can overhear Jonathon and Anita arguing. ANGLE DOWN on Maxwell looking up at the ceiling, completely oblivious to the world around him.

FADE TO:
EXT. EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY

Angle down on Empire State University. A very dreary and dark day, rain continues to pour from the gray sky above.

EXT. EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY- CAMPUS

Maxwell Dillon walks alone through the campus with his head down. Students look across towards him, but stay at a distance. He looks around and the students quickly look away. Maxwell sighs and holds firmer onto the strap of his breaking apart backpack.

INT. EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY- CLASS ROOM

A PROFESSOR writes notes on a chalk board. He looks up towards the class.

POV. PROFESSOR

We see Peter, sitting in the same row as Maxwell Dillon, a couple of seats down, taking notes.

Maxwell Dillon leans forward, lovingly gazing down towards a beautiful teenage blonde- CYNTHIA BROWN.

Cynthia takes notes and casually glances towards the chalk board.

Sitting in the row behind Max is a group of jocks. The ringleader of the group is BRAD. He looks at his friends laughing as he begins to poke Maxwell with the back of pencil. His three jock friends join in on the tormenting.

Maxwell lowers his head, depressed. Not doing a damned thing about it!

Peter looks over and sees what is happening with disgust.

BRAD
(laughing)
Dork.

Peter looks down remembering Flash Thompson. He looks back up towards Brad angrily. He quickly and cautiously puts out his hand and webs the pencils out of their hands!

Brad and his friends notice the pencils are no longer in their hands…

BRAD
(surprised)
Huh? What the hell?

Peter grins and laughs as he shakes his head no.

The professor looks up towards Brad, noticing the recent class room disturbance.

PROFESSOR
Do you have anything to add to the conversation Brad?

Brad’s face turns red as his friends laugh.

BRAD
No sir.

PROFESSOR
Then may I continue?
(beat)
As I was saying…

The professor sets back to his lecture.

PROFESSOR
For this project I want each and every one of you, to do research about the people who raised you.

Maxwell looks across at Peter, unsure of what exactly just happened. Peter friendly shrugs. Maxwell just looks at him confused and caught off guard.

PROFESSOR
Because as a famous poet once said: it is only when we know where we come from that we can begin to learn about ourselves.

FADE TO:
EXT. EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY- LECTURE HALL

Maxwell begins to walk away from the lecture hall. Peter quickly catches up to him.

PETER
Hey.

MAXWELL
Leave me alone.

PETER
(apologetic)
About what happened in there, those guys can be real jerks sometimes.

MAXWELL
You’re telling me?

PETER
I’m sorry.

Peter extends his hand…

PETER
Peter Parker.

Maxwell looks at it with confusion. Peter sighs.

MAXWELL
I don’t need a friend.

Maxwell walks away. Peter just stands still, watching him go.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREET

CLOSE UP on Mary Jane exiting a store. CRACK… The people around Mary Jane begin to run off, scared for their lives. Mary Jane looks up at the brick wall of the store as the bricks begin to fall out of place, crumbling towards the streets below. Mary Jane holds out her hand and screams in terror. The building instantly catches on fire!

Suddenly someone TACKLES her out of the way. The bricks collapse as the building breaks apart.

Mary Jane looks up at the HEROIC MAN. Your cliché vision of a hero: strong jaw, muscular, ruggedly handsome.

VOICE
And cut!

Pan back to reveal that we are on a movie set in the middle of New York! And the voice belongs to the one, the only- the egomaniacal director QUINTON BECK!

The fiery blaze on the building disappears in a flash! It was just a technologically advanced hologram.

Quinton approaches Mary Jane as the Heroic Man helps her to her feet.

QUINTON
Mary, babe- that was phenomenal!

Mary Jane blushes as she brushes the dirt off of her costume.

QUINTON
One take, one take and you nailed it! I should hire you for all of my movies. Actress and stunt woman…

Quinton looks back at the building, still intact.

QUINTON
How’d you get so brave, anyway?

Mary Jane laughs.

MARY JANE
Well, you know… dangerous city.

QUINTON
Quite.

Quinton looks Mary Jane up and down, obviously liking what he’s seeing. He smiles and nods approvingly, she returns his smile. Pan back to reveal Peter watching from a distance, nerved by this interaction between the two.

FLASH! The light coming off of a camera shines upon the scene. Quinton looks in its direction, noticing a fat overweight dirty looking paparazzi smoking on a cigar. This is NICK KATZENBERG.

Quinton signals for one of his security agents to take care of it. Nick is forcefully pushed away from the film set.

QUINTON
(to MARY JANE)
Well, that was your last shot for the day. If you want I can have one of my men escort you home.

Mary Jane shakes her head no. She looks across the street noticing Peter waiting for her.

MARY JANE
No, thanks, I already have a ride.

QUINTON
You sure?

MARY JANE
Yeah.

Mary Jane walks across the street. Peter smiles, as he embraces her.

PETER
So, how’d it go?

MARY JANE
Great. It was really something else.

Peter looks back at Quinton.

PETER
I’m sure.

Mary Jane looks at Peter sensing that something is bothering him.

MARY JANE
What is it?

PETER
Hmm?

MARY JANE
Come on, Peter. I can tell when something’s bothering you.

Peter shakes his head no.

PETER
No, it’s nothing… I’m fine.
(beat)
Really.

Mary Jane looks at Peter, not convinced.

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER’S APARTMENT- MAIN

The apartment is actually neat, comfortable and a relaxing environment.

Peter and Mary Jane enter, turning on the lights.

Peter reaches down, picks up a cardboard box and starts to unpack.

MARY JANE
I think I’m just going to go to bed. It’s been a long night.

Peter nods okay. Mary Jane walks off. He looks at picture of the two of them at Central Park having the time of their life. He sighs as he sets the box down on the kitchen table.

He looks into a mirror trying to search his soul, with no luck, he glances towards the computer.

LATER:

A document appears on the computer screen with the headline: A DEADLY THREAT AGAINST THE US.

Peter looks at the screen, caught off guard. He scrolls down…

CLOSE UP on the words: “Richard and Mary Parker are amongst the traitors to the US Government.”

CLOSE UP on Peter staring at the screen at a loss for words… all he can manage to do is blankly stare at the screen, lost and confused.

INT. PARKER’S APARTMENT- BEDROOM

Peter looks in to see Mary Jane already fast asleep, he slowly closes the door.

FADE TO:
EXT. STARK TOWERS- NIGHT/RAINING

ANGLE UP towards Stark Towers. The dark navy blue sky looms above, as heavy rain fall plummets towards the ground below.

INT. STARK TOWERS- TONY STARK’S OFFICE

The room is ornately decorated with Victorian war supplies and armor. Tony is at his personal bar pouring himself another drink… TAP… TAP… TAP… Tony sets the bottle of beer down and looks towards the window, frowning.

Spider-Man hangs upside down, yo-yo style, waving hi.

Tony looks towards the main entrance door making sure no one is coming. He approaches the window and opens it. Spider-Man double flips into the room.

TONY
I hate it when you do that…

SPIDER-MAN
I need your help.

Tony shrugs and nods as he sits down and reclines in the chair behind his desk.

TONY
Figured as much, what is this time?

SPIDER-MAN
Top classified documents. I thought with your knowledge in computers and connections to the…

Tony cuts him off…

TONY
Documents, what documents?

Spider-Man nods as he looks around the room. Stark was always business…

SPIDER-MAN
The history files on a Richard and Mary Parker.

TONY
Parker… Parker, why does that name ring a bell?

Spider-Man looks at Tony and shrugs.

SPIDER-MAN
My unofficial photographer.

TONY
Oh yes, him… I think I can work something out. When do you need the files by?

SPIDER-MAN
As soon as possible.

Spider-Man approaches the window. Tony clears his throat, Spider-Man looks over towards him.

TONY
Do you mind exiting via the front entrance this time?

SPIDER-MAN
No problem IM…

Spider-Man turns around to leave the office.

FADE TO:

INT. PSYCHOLOGISTS’ OFFICE

ANGLE DOWN on Maxwell Dillon lying on a couch staring towards the ceiling.

MAXWELL
I am never going to amount to anything…

A PSYCHOLOGIST looks at Maxwell, sympathetically.

PSYCHOLOGIST
You are going to be someone Max…

Maxwell shakes his head no…

MAXWELL
No. I’m not. Everyone knows it. Everyone knows that I’m…

Maxwell sighs and closes his eyes.

MAXWELL
Nobody likes me… teachers never pay attention to me, girls don’t even look at me… the guys at school, they make my life a living hell!
(beat)
Heck, my own father is embarrassed of me.

The psychologist looks at Max, not knowing what to say…

PSYCHOLOGIST
That’s not true.

Maxwell bolts straight up in his seat.

MAXWELL
(furious)
Yes it is! What do you know?!!!

The psychologist sits back, nerved by Max’s sudden change in behavior. Maxwell takes a deep breath, lies back down and closes his eyes.

MAXWELL
I’m sorry… I… I didn’t mean to… I…

PSYCHOLOGIST
It’s okay.

Maxwell shakes his head no.

MAXWELL
No, it’s not.

Maxwell sighs as he sits up and looks at the psychologist…

MAXWELL
It’s just… sometimes I think my life would be better off, dead…

PSYCHOLOGIST
You don’t mean that.

MAXWELL
Yeah… I do.

Maxwell checks his watch, stands up.

MAXWELL
Time’s up.

The psychologist begins to get up, but he’s too late. Maxwell is already gone.

EXT. DAILY BUGLE

ANGLE UP to see the Daily Bugle.

INT. DAILY BUGLE- OFFICES

Reporters walk around the office sharing stories. Photographers look over their photographs. Betty Brant is busy operating the phones.

KEN ELLIS, mid twenties, leans over a desk showing off his articles to a fellow female COWORKER.

COWORKER
Wow, you were actually there?

Ken Ellis grins and nods his head.

KEN
Better believe it.
(beat)
As I said, you want a story… you go for the prize. The prize doesn’t just come to you. You have to work for it… you have to…

JAMESON (O.S.)
Ellis!!!!

Ken packs up the articles.

KEN
Boss is calling.

Ken walks away and quickly turns back to check out the hot female coworker again… he grins.

INT. DAILY BUGLE- JAMESON’S OFFICE

Ken Ellis enters Jameson’s office. Peter looks over at him, already in the room.

KEN
Parker, hey, how’s it hangin?

Peter grins…

PETER
Great…

Jameson cuts them off.

JAMESON
Yeah, yeah… whatever… I called both of you in here for business. Not small talk.

Peter and Ken nod okay, right to business…

JAMESON
I want an article and pictures to go along with Quinton Beck’s shoot over at the Brooklyn Bridge.

KEN
On it boss…

PETER
Can do.

JAMESON
What are you two waiting around here for? Go! Go!

Peter and Ken walk out of the office.

EXT. DAILY BUGLE

Peter signals for a Taxi, smiling proudly. Ken arrives beside him.

KEN
How’s the wife?

PETER
She’s doing good…

KEN
That’s great.

PETER
Yeah… She’s in Beck’s film.

KEN
Serious?

Peter nods proud of Mary Jane.

KEN
Congratulations man.

Peter smiles, blushing for both him and MJ.

A taxi cab pulls up. They get in.

EXT. BROOKLYN BRIDGE

ESTABLISHING SHOTS of Brooklyn Bridge…

Two Helicopters hover around the bridge getting ready for their upcoming stunt.

Traffic is stopped on all sides. Film crews prevent the vehicles from moving.

Mary Jane Watson stands above the bridge, in the same area she was in the first Spider-Man film!

On the ground below Quinton Beck looks around with a great big smile spread across his face like a kid in a candy store.

QUINTON
This is going to knock their socks off!

Newspaper crews stand off to the side getting ready to take pictures and notes.

Reporters get ready to catch a first exclusive behind the scenes look. A REPORTER approaches Quinton Beck…

REPORTER
And this is the man of the hour, Quinton Beck himself! The man behind such films as Nightmare Factory, Deadlier by the Dozen, and Mysteries of the Dead… his newest film is titled Dangerous Games.
(beat)
Can you give us any idea as to what the plot is going to be this time?

Quinton grins and shakes his head no.

QUINTON
Wouldn’t you like to know… but, as of right now that’s remaining top secret; I can tell you this though- you haven’t seen anything like it.

REPORTER
Really original, huh?

Quinton grins as he nods his head.

QUINTON
A masterpiece.

We see Nick Katzenberg taking pictures from a distance…

NICK
Hot shot directors, think they own the city…

We see a Taxi Cab appear in the distance. Peter and Ken Ellis get out of it. Peter turns around to see dozens of TV sets in a store turned to the unfolding action taking place on the Brooklyn Bridge. He sees a camera focusing on Mary Jane on top of the bridge and frowns, afraid… Ken notices it.

KEN
Your wife is brave!

Peter looks at it still troubled.

PETER
You have no idea.

Quinton looks over the set and grins…

QUINTON
Silence on the set… and ACTION!!!!!!

The helicopters begin to whirl out of control.

Peter looks on in fear…

KEN
Amazing…

Quinton looks up at the helicopters and nods grinning…

QUINTON
The public wants real… they’ll get real.

Peter looks at Ken…

PETER
I just remembered something.

KEN
Now?

Peter nods…

PETER
It’s important. Tell me what happens, okay?

Ken nods his head okay.

Peter runs off.

EXT. ALLEY

Peter runs through the alleyway. Rips off his shirt changing into Spider-Man!!! He web slings towards the building above and takes off.

EXT. BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Quinton equips a walkie-talkie…

QUINTON
Helicopters… action!

EXT. BROOKLYN BRIDGE- SKIES

Mary Jane watches on as both of the helicopters go in for a crash landing!!! This wasn’t part of the plan…

The first helicopter soars towards the bridge. The pilot jumps out and equips a parachute. The helicopter rams up against the bridge causing a huge EXPLOSION!!!!

Mary Jane shields herself from the debris and heat.

EXT. BROOKLYN BRIDGE

The crowd looks on in awe. Quinton grins…

QUINTON
Now this is show business!!!

The helicopter’s propellers hurtle towards the streets below!

The people in the cars look up in fear seeing the approaching propellers. They quickly get out of their cars and run for their life.

Quinton leans back enjoying the show.

Spider-Man quickly SWINGS in and tries to the web the propellers. They chop straight through!!!

SPIDER-MAN
Oh man…

Spider-Man swings back and lands on the bridge’s wall.

SPIDER-MAN
I can do this…

Spider-Man quickly sends out webs rapidly catching the propellers and slowing its descent! Eventually the propellers drop to the ground below, no casualties…

Quinton looks at Spider-Man, furious.

QUINTON
What the hell is he doing here?! He’s ruining everything!

The cameraman looks at him, waiting for his cue…

CAMERAMAN
What’s the plan?

QUINTON
We cut around him… we have to get this done today. Signal for the second helicopter.

MARY JANE (O.S.)
Help!!!!!

Spider-Man lands and looks up as the fire spreads across the top of the bridge.

SPIDER-MAN
Hold on, I’m coming!!!

Spider-Man web slings to the top of the bridge. He looks at Mary Jane.

SPIDER-MAN
Are you okay?

Mary Jane nods her head…

SPIDER-MAN
Next time you want to put your life in jeopardy, call me…

MARY JANE
We can talk about this later tiger.

Spider-Man looks at the fire and nods.

SPIDER-MAN
Hold on!!!

Spider-Man grabs Mary Jane and swings off of the bridge towards the reporters and camera crew.

A helicopter flies straight through the bridges support beams behind them!!!

Quinton looks at the camera man.

QUINTON
Please tell me you have that shot.

The cameraman nods and Quinton nods proud of his work.

Spider-Man sets Mary Jane down on the bridge.

SPIDER-MAN
Everyone get out of here! Go! Go! Go!

Mary Jane and the crowd of reporters run off.

Spider-Man looks up at the structures supporting the bridge beginning to snap apart, coming down around him.

SPIDER-MAN
Why do I always get the insane ones?

Spider-Man quickly sends out his webs, creating a giant support web around the bridge to catch all of the collapsing bridge support beams.

SPIDER-MAN
(exasperated)
What’s next?

The support beams easily slide through the webbing like… a hologram. Spider-Man looks on in confusion as he begins to make out the signs of the still intact support beams above.

He quickly notices the helicopter above going in for another crash landing. It comes to an abrupt halt.

Quinton Beck looks up angrily… he equips his walkie-talkie.

QUINTON
Why the hell are you stopping?
(beat)
I don’t care. I need the shot god damn it!

The helicopter begins to fly across the bridge… suddenly explosions erupt from both sides of the bridge, sending the helicopter spiraling out of control and towards the cars below.

Spider-Man quickly swings into action and sends out webs, catching the helicopter in mid-air. He hops up on the web and quickly helps the Pilot out of the vehicle.

PILOT
Thank you, Spider-Man.

SPIDER-MAN
Don’t mention it. Hold on.

Spider-Man jumps off the web and into the waters below as the web CRACKS and the helicopter violently lands against the cars below. Car alarms go off in unison.

EXT. BROOKLYN BRIDGE- WATERS

Spider-Man looks towards the Pilot.

SPIDER-MAN
You okay?

The pilot nods.

FADE TO:
EXT. BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Spider-Man lands back on the bridge with the Pilot. The Pilot runs off. Quinton Beck approaches Spider-Man.

QUINTON
You ruined everything.

Spider-Man shoots him a look…

SPIDER-MAN
You could have hurt innocent people. People could have died!

Quinton laughs as he glances at the intact support beams.

QUINTON
Died? I don’t see any casualties and the bridge is still intact. All that happened was a slight technical error with the equipment.

SPIDER-MAN
What about the explosion… the helicopter… the propeller. Were those all ‘technical errors’ as well?

Quinton frowns, laughs and nods.

QUINTON
I’ve dealt with your kind before. It never ends well.

Spider-Man shakes his head, not believing a word of it…

SPIDER-MAN
(sarcastic)
Thanks for the advice…

Spider-Man walks away… Quinton stares on, furious at the lack of respect to his genius.

QUINTON
I’ve got the media backing me up, what do you have? Theories? Hunches… doesn’t hold up a damn in court!

Spider-Man approaches George Stacy waiting amongst the crowd.

GEORGE
You prevented a major catastrophe.

SPIDER-MAN
All part of the job… but, do me a favor?

George nods okay.

GEORGE
Sure, anything…

SPIDER-MAN
Can you look into what happened today?

GEORGE
Will do.

SPIDER-MAN
Thanks cap.

Spider-Man web slings off.

CLOSE UP on Ken Ellis still looking at the bridge in awe. Peter Parker arrives beside him.

PETER
So, what’d I miss?

Ken looks at him…

KEN
The money shot.

Quinton looks around the Brooklyn Bridge skeptically… afraid.

QUINTON
That’s a wrap.

INT. DILLON FAMILY HOME- MAXWELL’S BEDROOM

Maxwell lies on his bed staring up towards the ceiling…

POV. MAXWELL

ANGLE UP to see the blades of a fan rotating… RING… RING… RING…

ANITA (O.S.)
Maxwell… phone call!

Maxwell slowly gets up from bed and glances skeptically at the phone on his desk. He sighs as he approaches the phone and answers it.

MAXWELL
Hello?

BRAD (O.C.)
Max, hey man…

Maxwell looks around the room, caught off guard…

BRAD (O.C.)
Just wanted to say that I’m so sorry about the whole scene during class…

Awkward silence.

BRAD (O.C.)
I want to make it up to you. I’m having a party, want you to be there… Cynthia’s going to be here. What do you say, huh big man?

Maxwell stares at the wall, confused… not knowing if he should trust him…

MAXWELL
I… I don’t know… I mean, I’m…

BRAD (O.C.)
Come on man, scouts honor… its cool.

Maxwell sighs and nods his head okay.

MAXWELL
I’ll come.

BRAD (O.C.)
Great.

Maxwell hangs up the phone, sighs and glances over towards his closet… not sure if this is the right choice. He quickly shakes his head no.

MAXWELL
I can’t trust him…
(beat)
Come on Max, what can go wrong? He apologized…

Maxwell looks back towards the closet.

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER APARTMENT- MAIN

Peter and Mary Jane stand in the main room of their apartment in a heated argument.

PETER
All I’m saying is that you should have told me what you were doing!

MARY JANE
What I was doing? I don’t need you to keep tabs on me, Peter. I can take care of myself.

PETER
That stunt was dangerous! You could have gotten killed if it wasn’t for me!

MARY JANE
Something went wrong… I’m sure of it. It wasn’t his fault.

PETER
You’re sure of it? Mary Jane that guy is out of his mind! What happened today, it wasn’t an accident… he planned it.

MARY JANE
This is about the other day, isn’t it?

Peter looks at her caught off guard.

PETER
What other day?

MARY JANE
You think that there’s something going on between us.

PETER
I have no idea what you’re talking about…

MARY JANE
I saw the way you looked at me… at him… the day you picked me up Peter. That’s what this is about isn’t it?

Peter looks at her shocked and caught…

PETER
Yes… no… no… I mean… he’s dangerous MJ. You have to be careful around him. He almost got you killed today… it’s just…

RING… RING… RING… Peter sighs as he glances over towards the phone.

PHONE VOICE
Stark Enterprises…

Peter looks at MJ, apologetically… he answers it.

PETER
Hello?… Yes, I’ll tell him… thanks for your help.

Mary Jane looks at Peter, confused and waiting… Peter sighs as he looks at her and shrugs.

PETER
I’m sorry… I have to go.

MARY JANE
Go.

Peter nods and looks down towards the ground…

INT. DILLON FAMILY HOME- ENTRANCE

Maxwell walks down the stairs, dressed in the best clothes he has and his hair spiked up in the front like the rest of the guys… He grins as he quickly makes his way towards the exit.

Jonathon quickly and violently GRABS his son by his arm.

JONATHON
Where do you think you’re going?!

Maxwell shoots his father a look as he wriggles out of his grip.

MAXWELL

INT. STARK TOWERS- TONY’S OFFICE

Spider-Man enters the office via the front doors.

Tony grins as he gets up from behind his desk and approaches Spider-Man with a manila folder containing documents inside.

TONY
As requested…

Spider-Man reluctantly takes the documents. Tony Stark notices.

SPIDER-MAN
Thank you.

TONY
No problem… Just tell your friend, he may not want to read the information inside of it. The question that remains is- does your friend want to live in the past, or move on to the future?
(beat)
His choice.

Spider-Man nods as he looks down towards the documents…

FADE TO:
EXT. BRAD’S HOUSE- NIGHT

Brad’s house is filled with college students partying. “Bonecracker” by Shocore rocks out of the stereo system. Maxwell slowly approaches the house nervously… fellow students look towards him and shrug his presence off.

Maxwell grins as he takes his first step into the house.

INT. BRAD’S HOUSE- MAIN

Inside young adults are partying, dancing to the rhythm of the music and drinking beer.

Maxwell looks around and starts to nod his head to the sound of the beat… he glances around the room and finally finds Cynthia talking to her friends off to the side. He glances at her lovingly, unable to make a move.

Brad approaches Maxwell and wraps his arm around his shoulder.

BRAD
There’s the man of the hour.

Maxwell suddenly feels uncomfortable…

MAXWELL
I think I should be going…

BRAD
Going? This soon… no way, the fun’s just about to begin.

Brad glances up to see one of his friends, ALEX, standing at the top of the stairs, out of focus holding onto a bucket of fruit punch. Brad grins as he turns his attention back towards Maxwell…

BRAD
You like her?

Maxwell blushes, not knowing how to respond.

BRAD
Well, here’s your chance man… lets go say hi.

Brad pushes Maxwell towards Cynthia. She looks up at him caught off guard…

MAXWELL
(nervously)
Hi.

CYNTHIA
(not interested)
Hi.

Cynthia turns her attention back towards her friends… Maxwell steps closer towards her.

MAXWELL
My… my name’s Max.

Cynthia looks at him as though he’s garbage.

CYNTHIA
I’m kind of busy, Max.

MAXWELL
We have class together… we…

Cynthia looks at him, confused.

MAXWELL
(hurt)
You seriously don’t know who I am, do you?

Brad stands off to the side laughing.

Cynthia shakes her head no.

Brad looks up at Alex and gives him the thumbs up signal…

Alex nods as he pours the fruit punch over the stairs, landing squarely on Maxwell.

Students look in his direction laughing. Maxwell stands there frozen in fear and shock as Cynthia breaks into laughter. Brad approaches Maxwell, innocently.

BRAD
What happened?

Maxwell looks at Brad, betrayed.

BRAD
Enjoying the party?

Maxwell looks around as everyone laughs at him. He begins to nervously twitch as a tear streams down his face, he looks back at Cynthia laughing at him. He takes off like a bat out of hell.

Brad wraps his arms around Cynthia and pulls her in…

BRAD
Hey babe, how’s it going?

EXT. BRAD’S HOUSE

EXT. ELECTRICAL STATION

Maxwell runs over the hills past the electrical poles. Rain pours down from the gray sky above. Maxwell stares up towards the sky… continuing to nervously twitch.

MAXWELL
All I ever wanted was to fit in… to be someone… to have a life.

Maxwell wipes his tears away.

MAXWELL
(yelling)
What have I done to deserve this?!!!!!!

Maxwell notices lightning striking behind him…

MAXWELL
That’s it… isn’t it? The answer?

PAN BACK as we see Maxwell looking up to the sky spreading his arms wide, as lightning bolts strikes around him…

Maxwell begins to climb up an electrical pole.

ANGLE DOWN to see Maxwell Dillon hanging from an electrical pole, on the verge of suicide, staring up towards the sky above. He closes his eyes as he rests his hand against the electrical wire… ZAP!!!! Maxwell is surrounded by a spark of electricity covering his entire body as a bolt of lightning strikes him to the ground.

Max hits the ground hard… his clothes burnt… he slowly gets back up. Max stands calmly looking at his hands, no sign of any scarring.

MAX
What the hell?

Max looks back at the electrical pole above and back towards his hands… he shakes his head in anger.

MAX
I hate you.

He walks off…

FADE TO:
INT. DILLON FAMILY HOME- ENTRANCE

Max enters his house. A hand reaches out and grabs him with a firm and solid grip. Max turns to face his father.

JONATHON
Where were you?

MAX
Leave me alone…

JONATHON
Not until you give me a god damn answer…

Max narrows his eyes angrily… he’s had enough…

MAX
I said leave me alone!!!

Max hurls Jonathon across the room as his hand sends out bolts of electricity! His face charges with an electrical glow and quickly fades away as the lightning bolts retract back into their primary source.

Max looks at his hands, afraid, and quickly towards his father…

MAX
Dad?

Max slowly approaches Jonathon…

MAX
Dad, I’m sorry… are you…

Max stops dead in his tracks as he discovers a burnt corpse!

MAX
Oh no…

Anita walks into the room, afraid…

ANITA
Jonathon, what’s going on in there?

Anita turns on the lights to find Max kneeling next to his dead father. Max looks at her hurt, sad, and confused…

MAX
It’s not what it looks like.

ANITA
I’m calling the police…

Max stands up and begins to approach her…

MAX
Mom, it’s not what it looks like. I can explain.

Anita looks at her son, afraid…

ANITA
No, get away from me…

Max narrows his eyes as his face begins to take on the blue electrical charge. His voice distorts…

MAX
I never wanted things to end this way.

The electrical sources in the house suddenly turn off…

Anita still clutching onto the phone looks at her son… afraid…

ANITA
Maxwell, what are you doing? Max…

CLOSE UP on Max’s eyes, narrow… confused, sad…

MAX
I’m sorry.

ZAP!!!!! We hear the sound of Anita screaming as we fade to black.

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER APARTMENT- MAIN

Mary Jane sits on the couch, half asleep. Peter enters…

MARY JANE
Hey.

PETER
Hey. I’m sorry… about earlier. I just don’t want to see anything happen to you.

Mary Jane nods okay, accepting his apology.

MARY JANE
Where were you?

Peter hands Mary Jane the manila folder containing the documents.

PETER
It was for a project, at school… I don’t know if I want to know more about them… about my parents… if what it says in there is true…

Peter stops and sighs as he slowly approaches the window and looks out.

PETER
That they were criminals… traitors against their own country…

Mary Jane flips through the documents and approaches Peter.

MARY JANE
There has to be more to it than that. Maybe you should ask Aunt May, maybe she’ll know the whole story behind it.

Peter looks at Mary Jane and shakes his head no…

PETER
It’s probably too painful of a memory for her. All my life I was told that my parents died in a plane crash. They kept what actually happened that day a secret. Maybe the truth was too much to bear…

Mary Jane looks at Peter sympathetically… she decides to give him some time alone.

MARY JANE
I think I’m going to head to bed…

Peter nods his head okay as Mary Jane walks away.

Peter approaches a picture taken when he was just a child. Showing Richard, Mary, May, Ben and CHILD PETER sitting beneath a tree at Central Park having their picture taken… he sighs as he approaches the sofa and sits down. He stares off into the distance…

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER FAMILY HOME- BEDROOM

Child Peter sits on the floor in the middle of the room, his knees drawn up to just under his chin.

The room itself wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t feel especially warm. It seemed as if some random stuff had been stuck together in one place.

Child Peter sits and stares at a spider crawling next to the window. The sun moved across the sky, the shadows lengthened, Ben enters the room noticing Child Peter and the spider staring at each other.

CHILD PETER
My mom and dad aren’t coming back, are they?

Child Peter looks at Ben, seeking comfort… an answer… anything…

BEN
(beat)
No, Peter. They were killed in an airplane crash. It was an accident.

CHILD PETER
No it wasn’t.

Ben looks at Child Peter curious and confused.

BEN
It wasn’t?

CHILD PETER
They were secret heroes. And they were helping their country, and a bad guy killed them…

Ben notices Captain America comics.

BEN
And you think your mom and dad were like that? Why?

CHILD PETER
Because they were special. Too special to get killed in a stupid airplane accident.

BEN
I see… that’s an interesting possibility you’ve got there, Peter.
(beat)
I see you have a room mate.

Ben notions towards the spider.

BEN
Heck of a spider, they’re good luck you know.

CHILD PETER
(surprised)
They are?

BEN
Oh yes. They eat harmful bugs, like mosquitoes. They protect people. That’s what they are Peter. Protectors. They’re helpful. And in this world, folks need all the help they can get. Right?

CHILD PETER
Right.

BEN
Who knows? Maybe my brother- your dad- sent him to watch over you.

Child Peter looks at the spider in a new light… a protector…

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER APARTMENT- MAIN

Peter sits motionless in the pitch dark room as he sighs, taking a deep breath he glances down to see the manila folder containing the documents… he shakes his head, everything he thought he knew was a lie.

EXT. EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY- CAMPUS

Peter sits outside on the steps of a large white building overlooking the parking lot.

An expensive car swerves into the parking lot, music blaring.

Peter watches on curiously…

Max Dillon exits the car. Hair spiked. Wears black sunglasses, jeans, a rusted green colored T-Shirt, and a black bomber jacket with a dog tag wrapped around his neck.

Max looks around campus as dozens of eyes fall upon him. He nods as he pays no attention to them.

Brad and Alex approach Max.

BRAD
What game you think you’re playing here Maxwell?

Brad violently SHOVES Max. Max quickly GRABS his hand.

MAX
No game. And by the way, the name’s Max.

Max SHOVES Brad back knocking him violently up against a tree, Alex helps him up.

ALEX
(to Brad)
You okay man?

Max stretches his muscles and yawns as he casually walks away.

Cynthia looks towards Max, from afar, afraid. Max looks at her, laughs and shakes his head no.

Peter quickly approaches Max…

PETER
Hey, is everything okay? You seem… different.

Max grins as he lowers his sunglasses.

MAX
You’re right… I am different.
(beat)
I guess I just woke up one day and realized that it was about time I started to enjoy life.

Max walks off, Peter looks towards him caught off guard…

INT. BECK’S APARTMENT- QUINTON’S OFFICE

Quinton’s office is filled with posters of his movies over the years. In the center of the room is a mahogany desk. At the very back of the room are three large windows overlooking central park below.

Quinton sits at his desk, working on the computer. A young man in his early twenties enters the room, this is his SECRETARY.

SECRETARY
Sir, one of your agents just called. The producers are in an uproar over the last shot on the Brooklyn Bridge.

Quinton laughs… the secretary looks at him, confused.

QUINTON
Of course they are… they’re dinosaurs. They don’t understand how the world works now. Especially in the new millennium… no, no, no… CGI is a thing of the past.
(beat)
People are smarter now, more intuitive. They can see a masterful illusion from a mile away… you want to make the audience believe? You want to have them on the edge of their seats… then you simply have to give them what they want. Reality.

Quinton grins nodding his head…

QUINTON
That is how a true magician works his magic.

He looks towards his secretary, more as a mentor teaching the ways of the biz…

QUINTON
You make them believe, you control them. You gain their respect.

FADE TO:
INT. DAILY BUGLE- OFFICES

Peter and Betty are in the middle of a conversation, when…

JAMESON (O.S.)
Parker!!!!

Peter looks at Betty, like a deer caught in the headlights.

BETTY
Good luck.

PETER
Thanks.

INT. DAILY BUGLE- JAMESON’S OFFICE

Peter slowly enters Jameson’s office.

PETER
You wanted to see me?

JAMESON
Where were you yesterday?

PETER
At the Brooklyn Bridge… like you requested.

JAMESON
Ellis told me you walked out. Something of importance…

Peter sighs.

JAMESON
Spider-Man disrupted that movie shoot and we have nothing to show for it! Nothing!

PETER
He wasn’t disrupting anything! He saved people from getting hurt.

JAMESON
How would you know? You weren’t even there.

PETER
I… heard about it.

JAMESON
Yeah, well hearing is different than seeing isn’t it?

EXT. EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY- RAINING

ANGLE DOWN and SWERVE AROUND Empire State University.

EXT. EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY- ALLEY

Brad walks through an alley beside Empire State University.

Max follows close behind him, slowly, careful not to get caught.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY- BROOKLYN- STREETS

Brad walks through a Brooklyn neighborhood. Rain falling around him, plummeting to the ground below… He stops moving and quickly glances behind his back- nothing. Brad narrows his eyes, caught off guard. He shrugs it off and continues to walk off.

Max comes out the back of an alley and continues to follow him.

Brad stops at his apartment complex and walks in.

Max grins and nods his head…

FADE TO:
INT. APARTMENT COMPLEX- BRAD’S BEDROOM

Brad lies on his bed, fast asleep… we suddenly hear the crackling of electricity nearing the bed. Pan around to see Max, head aglow with electrical currents, looking down on Brad sadistically grinning.

Brad quickly wakes up and looks towards the figure staring down towards him, afraid, he backs away and cowers against the wall.

MAX
There’s the man of the hour.

BRAD
W… Who are you?

MAX
What’s wrong? Don’t you remember…

BRAD
M… Max… what do you…

Max sends out a bolt of lightning towards Brad. Brad jolts as his body goes into shock…

BRAD
Please… show mercy!

Max stops, thinking it over… he laughs.

MAX
Mercy?! What mercy have you ever shown me!!!

Max strikes him with a more intense lightning bolt… Brad screams in AGONY as Max continues to laugh.

The lights in the room turn off as everything becomes pitch black…

Brad’s PARENTS quickly enter the room and turn on the lights. Brad is dead. Only a corpse of a memory burned beyond recognition… Brad’s mother screams in fear.

FADE TO:
INT. BECK’S APARTMENT- MAIN ROOM

We hear the faint CLINK of two wine glasses as we move through a party crowded with guests. Men and women dressed in fine suits and dresses…

ELDERLY MAN (O.S.)
A toast… to another job well done.

In the dead center of the room we see an ELDERLY MAN holding a wine glass beside Quinton Beck. All eyes are focused on them. Quinton grins from ear to ear.

QUINTON
Thank you. It’s all in a good day’s work.

Quinton raises his glass up.

QUINTON
To the future… to “Dangerous Games”

The guests raise their wine glasses in unison. Quinton drinks it down and quickly wipes his mouth.

He throws the wine glass into the fireplace and we see a monstrous face emerge from the flames! The audience applauds. Quinton nods as he walks off…

QUINTON
Now let’s enjoy the party.

The elderly man looks towards Quinton amused and surprised.

ELDERLY MAN
He really needs to show me how he does that…

The elderly man walks off.

We see Peter and Mary Jane watching on from a distance. Peter is the most awe struck by the recent trick.

The Secretary approaches Quinton.

SECRETARY
Sir, you have a very important phone call.

QUINTON
Thank you Lance, I’ll take it in my office.

FADE TO:
INT. BECK’S APARTMENT- OFFICE

Quinton picks up the phone and looks out over the city that never sleeps. The room’s pitch black with the exception of the light radiating from electrical appliances.

QUINTON
Beck… Stanley, it’s always great to hear from one of my agents, what’s on your mind?

CLOSE UP on Quinton staring out the windows, furious…

QUINTON
What?… No, that can’t be possible… they can’t shut it down… complications? I give the audience what they want. They want reality, I give it to them ten fold!!!

The line clicks dead. Quinton picks up the phone and THROWS it against the wall with a scream of rage!

He stops and looks out the window… thinking over what just happened, furious…

QUINTON
(under his breath)
The Arachnid.

The secretary enters the room, cautiously…

SECRETARY
Sir, is everything alright?

Beck slowly turns his head to stare straight into the eyes of his secretary, mad as hell…

QUINTON
Everything’s fine.

Quinton brushes down his suit and fixes his tie as his right eye twitches… Quinton rubs the eye, momentarily getting rid of the twitch. Quinton leaves the room. The secretary looks over towards the phone.

INT. BECK’S APARTMENT

Quinton goes back to the party and looks around as everyone enjoys the night. He stares on blankly, lost in a frazzled state of mind… he looks out the window and starts staring furiously… he shakes his head no, in pure hatred.

He notices Peter alone out of the corner of his eye. He grins as he claps his hands together and approaches him.

QUINTON
There he is…

Peter looks at Quinton Beck, caught off guard.

QUINTON
Your wife is quite the actress.

Peter looks at Quinton suspiciously…

PETER
Thank you.

QUINTON
Your wife, she… she’s told me a lot about you. How you take pictures of Spider-Man for the Daily Bugle.

Peter nods his head.

QUINTON
You’re sort of his unofficial photographer, aren’t you? I want to make a movie about Spider-Man.

Quinton spreads his hands out as though reading an imaginary title.

QUINTON
“The man who would be Spider-Man”

Peter looks at Quinton, taken off guard, confused and nervous…

QUINTON
Expose the public to the true Spider-Man. The man behind the mask… it’s time that the city knows the truth. He’s nothing special; just a low rent special effects nerd who gets his kicks out of saving people. You think Spider-Man gives a crap about anybody in this city? Because the answer is, he doesn’t! It’s all for him, everything.

Quinton wraps his arms around Peter’s shoulder.

QUINTON
So, I want your help. You provide the pictures and help me with the research and in no time your name will be up in lights. I can help make you famous… anything you ever wanted, it’s yours.

PETER
Why are you so interested?

Quinton takes a moment to fix his attire…

QUINTON
Just call it curiosity got the cat, shall we?

Peter begins to back away.

QUINTON
So… interested?

Peter shakes his head no.

PETER
I won’t help you.

QUINTON
You won’t?! Do you have any idea what I’m offering you! Do you have any idea of what I can give you!

People look in their direction…

QUINTON
You’re walking away from the chance of a life time!!!

PETER
I’m not interested.

Peter walks off… Quinton shakes his head, angry as hell. The camera spins around him as we take in every eye in the room looking at him scared. Quinton laughs as he walks off.

Mary Jane enters the room and notices Peter walking towards the balcony.

EXT. BECK’S APARTMENT- BALCONY

Peter walks out onto the balcony and looks up at the sky above… Mary Jane approaches him.

MARY JANE
Hey.

Peter shrugs his shoulders…

PETER
Hey…

MARY JANE
What happened? Is everything okay?

PETER
Don’t worry about it…

MARY JANE
Peter, what happened?

PETER
Nothing. Just drop it, alright?

Peter’s phone rings, he looks towards Mary Jane.

PETER
I’m sorry… I, I have to get this.

Mary Jane nods her head sympathetically as she walks back into the apartment. Peter answers the phone.

PETER
Hello…
(sighs)
Yeah, I’ll tell him.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT- ROOFTOPS

Captain George Stacy looks out over New York City. Spider-Man lands behind him.

SPIDER-MAN
Wanted to see me?

Captain Stacy turns around and nods his head.

GEORGE
I did some digging, like you asked.

SPIDER-MAN
And?

GEORGE
What happened on that bridge… it wasn’t an accident.

Spider-Man nods his head.

GEORGE
“Dangerous Games” has officially shut down. The news is going to go out in a couple of days after everything has calmed down.

Spider-Man nods his head okay.

SPIDER-MAN
And Beck?

GEORGE
I doubt he will find work in the industry. His ego… it’s too much for his own good, for anyone’s good. People could get hurt.

Spider-Man nods…

Static comes through George’s walkie-talkie communication device. George equips it.

GEORGE
Captain Stacy.

COP (O.C.)
We just got in reports about a burglary in progress at the bank on 50th Bayard Street.

GEORGE
Just send a couple of our men over.

COP (O.C.)
We did sir. He overpowered them.

GEORGE
How?

COP (O.C.)
Lightning sir, whoever it is controls electricity.

GEORGE
I’ll head over there immediately.

George turns off his walkie-talkie and looks towards Spider-Man. Spider-Man nods his head…

SPIDER-MAN
I’m on it Cap.

He runs towards the edge of the rooftop and dives off. George runs after him and looks down, no where in sight… pan back to see Spider-Man swing back up to rooftop level, straight into our field of view and past the screen.

George Stacy continues to watch as he smiles and re-enters police headquarters.

FLASH CUT:
INT. BANK- VAULT

CLOSE UP on electrical currents running along a bank vault.

QUICK ZOOM OUT to reveal Max aglow, hands stretched out burning the vault open…

CLOSE UP on Max grinning and nodding- it’s time.

He stops and approaches the vault. He opens it with ease and starts to take the money out… he laughs as he glances behind his back.

POV. MAX
To see the bank part way destroyed with burn marks all over the place. The glass looking into the bank- shattered. The police car- destroyed… and the cops… nothing more than burnt corpses lining the ground!

Max quickly finishes packing his bag with the cash and zips it up.

EXT. BANK- ROOFTOP

Spider-Man swings overhead looking down towards the crime scene… he sees Max exiting via the rooftops with a bag of cash.

Max swings the bag behind his back as he looks up to see Spider-Man staring down towards him from the adjacent rooftop.

MAX
You.

Spider-Man nods.

SPIDER-MAN
Me.
(beat)
Now, why don’t you do what every other super villain doesn’t… hand over the money. Do things the easy way…

Max laughs.

MAX
My powers are far greater than yours.

Max sends out an electrical current towards Spider-Man. Spider-Man quickly dodges out of the way.

SPIDER-MAN
You guys never learn, do you?

Spider-Man quickly sends out webs, blinding Max. Max pulls at the webs quickly… Spider-Man lands on the rooftop.

SPIDER-MAN
Still want to tell me about your “omnipotent power” and how you’re going to destroy me?

Max begins to laugh hysterically as electricity overwhelms the webs burning them off. Spider-Man looks at Max, caught off guard.

SPIDER-MAN
Okay, I admit it… I was not expecting that.

Max turns around to face Spider-Man as he sends out millions of electrical currents! Spider-Man dodges in between the electrical currents careful not to get hit.

Max rises into the sky, as electrical currents branch off around him!

Spider-Man continues to dodge, flip, and roll past the electrical currents.

Max looks down towards Spider-Man from above.

MAX
Dodge this.

Max sends out a massive electrical current towards Spider-Man. ZAP!!! Spider-Man is knocked out. Max lowers and approaches Spider-Man, arrogantly.

MAX
Should have learned, your powers are nothing against me.

Spider-Man groans in agony as he withers on the ground. Max continues to approach Spider-Man, laughing.

MAX
I really wish you could see yourself now. Pathetic…

Spider-Man looks up as Max spreads out his hands ready for the kill.

MAX
Lights out, Spider-Man.

SPIDER-MAN
Not yet.

Spider-Man quickly sends out webs. Max looks down towards webbed hands laughing…

MAX
Haven’t you learned?

Spider-Man gets up and tackles Max to the ground…

SPIDER-MAN
Yeah, I…

ZAP! Spider-Man is immediately knocked off Max and falls to the ground paralyzed.

SPIDER-MAN (CONT’D)
(weakly)
Have…

Max looks down at Spider-Man withering, beaten.

MAX
Anyone stupid enough to touch me while my body is in “electric shock condition” only has himself to blame for the consequences.

Max rises into the sky…

MAX
Should have given me a chance to explain…

Max hovers away from the crime scene, fading off into the distance…

ANGLE DOWN on Spider-Man, his costume burnt to shreds and darkened. He weakly attempts to stand up and falls back down.

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER APARTMENT- ENTRANCE

Peter enters his apartment. Bruises show clearly across his face. He closes the door behind him and limps inside.

Mary Jane approaches him, shocked…

MARY JANE
What happened?

PETER
Got into a fight… I lost, he won.
(beat)
It feels like I was electrocuted and struck with a lightning bolt all at the same time.

Mary Jane tries to help Peter, he shakes his head no.

PETER
I’m fine.
(beat)
Listen, MJ, there’s something I have to tell you. That shoot, out on the bridge, it wasn’t an accident… It was rigged.

Mary Jane looks at Peter, too repulsed to believe it.

MARY JANE
No, that can’t be right…

PETER
It is. That man’s ego, if he can get the perfect shot of someone’s murder- he’ll do it, without flinching or even feeling sorry about it. All that he cares about is reaching an audience. People could have died out on that bridge, I know it, he knows it… he just didn’t care.

Peter sighs as he looks at her…

PETER
“Dangerous Games” was shut down by the studio. I don’t want you to go near him… he confronted me at the party tonight. He’s not safe to be around. An ego of his size is just a volcano waiting to erupt.

FADE TO:
INT. BECK’S APARTMENT- OFFICE

Quinton Beck sits at his desk in pure darkness staring towards his computer monitor.

OVER SHOULDER SHOT as we see a picture of Spider-Man taken by Peter Parker for the Daily Bugle. Headline reads, “Menace to Society.”

Lightning bolts strike outside…

FADE TO:
EXT. ALLEYWAYS- NIGHT

ALEX
Who’s there?!

Max approaches him from behind. Alex quickly turns around, caught off guard.

ALEX
Max?

Max nods as he begins to grin.

ALEX
What do you want?

MAX
Tell me, do you still feel powerful?

Alex begins to back away, afraid.

MAX
You didn’t think I could be one of you… you didn’t think I was good enough.

Max spreads out his hands as electricity begins to spread across his entire body.

Alex backs away, afraid…

ALEX
(realization)
Oh my god… Brad.

Max looks down towards Alex, grinning sadistically.

MAX
Let’s see how you like joining my club.

Max shoots out electrical currents… Alex SCREAMS in AGONY as he begins to break down into nothing more than a burnt corpse!

Max powers down as he looks towards the corpse, laughing.

MAX
Sucks to be you.

Max walks away, electrical currents following him as he fades into the distance.

FADE TO:
EXT. CATHEDRAL- RAINING

ANGLE DOWN to see the Cathedral below and hundreds of people solemnly entering, mourning the death of loved ones.

Peter stands outside, in a black suit, with Mary Jane. He holds a black umbrella over their heads as they slowly enter the church.

Max looks on as he sees the friends and family members of his numerous victims entering the church. He twitches and quickly forces himself to stop. Fixing and patting down his suit, he enters the cathedral.

INT. CATHEDRAL

PAN THROUGH to see weeping parents and depressed college students sitting in the pews of the church. A PRIEST stands at the head of the cathedral reciting the “Eternal Rest” prayer.

PRIEST
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

At the front are dozens of pictures of students who had tragically passed away before their time.

PRIEST (CONT’D)
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Max sits at the front, smiling. He cracks a grin, on the verge of laugher.

PRIEST (CONT’D)
Amen.

Max breaks into laughter. He stops and looks around. He quickly gets up and leaves the cathedral.

Peter looks over towards him, caught off guard and disturbed…

EXT. CATHEDRAL- ALLEY

Max paces back and forth through the alley, constantly looking around. He stops, takes a deep breath and shakes his head no.

MAX
They deserve what they got.

INT. CATHEDRAL

Peter sighs and lowers his head again, mourning the deaths of his classmates. They didn’t deserve to die- not like this.

EXT. CATHEDRAL- ALLEY

Max looks around one last time and begins to walk off through the rain, sparks of electricity following him as he departs.

INT. PARKER APARTMENT- BEDROOM (LIGHTNING ROD BY GUSTER)

Peter sits on his bed staring at the wall.

We hear the sounds of a plane crashing towards the ground below.

Peter closes his eyes and shakes his head no.

UNCLE BEN (V.O.)
They’re not here Peter.

Peter lowers his head.

UNCLE BEN (V.O.)
Your parents… they’re with God now.

Peter opens his eyes and stares at the wall again, pained…

TONY (V.O.)
Just tell your friend, he may not want to read the information inside…

FADE TO:
EXT. NEW YORK CITY- STREETS

Max walks through the crowded dirty streets of New York City. Rain pouring down from the gray sky above… Max looks around, pained and feeling like he doesn’t belong. Guilt shadowing over his fear; Max looks up towards the sky as though awaiting an answer that never came.

FADE TO:

PSYCHOLOGIST (O.C.)
Hello?

MAX
I need help. I think I…

PSYCHOLOGIST (O.C.)
Slow down, Max. Why don’t you tell me what’s bothering you?

Max lowers the phone and looks around, unable to cry… he sighs as he lowers his head and looks at the phone. Not able to answer. He quickly hangs the phone up.

INT. PSYCHOLOGIST’S OFFICE

The psychologist slowly puts down the phone… he sighs as he shakes his head in mourning regret.

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER APARTMENT- BEDROOM

Peter is still staring against the wall. Circle around to see the news playing on the TV. The latest story- Quinton Beck’s career… finished.

FADE TO:
INT. BECK’S APARTMENT- OFFICE

Pictures of Spider-Man line the whole room. A red pen circled around every picture containing the name ‘Peter Parker’.

Beck sits at his desk, rocking back and forth in his chair staring off into space…

FADE TO:
EXT. TIMES SQUARE

Max walks through Times Square looking around, still deeply depressed and confused. The gray sky above has stopped raining…

Max shakes his head no as he looks around Times Square. Letting go of his anger, he quickly sends out a lightning bolt towards the person standing in front of him. Killing him instantly…

Max looks around as people begin to run off afraid. Max laughs, letting go of his emotions… trying to find comfort.

MAX
I am going to be someone…

He quickly sends out more and more electric charges hitting several people around him as he rises towards the gray sky above.

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER APARTMENT- PETER’S BEDROOM

Peter turns and looks over towards the television set, seeing news footage of the attack on Times Square. His eyes widen in fear as he quickly stands up.

FADE TO:
EXT. TIMES SQUARE

Lightning bolts strike everywhere… people run out of the way, afraid for their lives! Max hovers in the air, dead center, grinning. As he unleashes all of his power… sucking in the electricity from the various electrical sources around him!

Spider-Man quickly swings in towards Times Square and lands on the ground. He looks up towards Max, frightened…

SPIDER-MAN
Oh my god.

Police cars arrive at the scene. George steps out and looks up towards the sky.

Max notices the police cars. The cops raise their guns, ready to fire…

MAX
No!!!!!

Max shoots out an electric charge knocking all of the cops back. The cops scream in agony.

Spider-Man looks back towards George.

SPIDER-MAN
Get your men and these people out of here! I’ll handle this!!!

George nods his head okay.

Spider-Man looks up towards Max continuing his rampage through Times Square. Unsure of how exactly he can stop him.

SPIDER-MAN
Here goes nothing…

Spider-Man swings into the sky. He and Max lock eyes…

Spider-Man swings straight towards him. Max frowns and yells in anger as he sends millions of electrical charges towards Spider-Man. Spider-Man uses his Spidey Sense to swing through each electrical charge! He kicks out his legs and hits Max back. Max soars back crashing into an electrical display as Spider-Man crashes towards the ground below.

Max grins and begins to sadistically laugh spreading out his hands, sucking in all of the power around him… Max screams in delight, spreading his hands in the air as the electrical charges erupt out of him. Hitting everything in sight!

Spider-Man quickly gets up and looks at Max, afraid…

SPIDER-MAN
Oh no.

Max hovers in the air, looking down towards Spider-Man, laughing.

Spider-Man looks around, trying to think of a way to… he stops and looks towards a fire hydrant. He runs towards it.

MAX
No!!!

Spider-Man dodges out of every attack and dives towards the fire hydrant.

SPIDER-MAN
Here goes nothing…

Spider-Man YANKS open the top of the fire hydrant. Water explodes out of it and attacks Max. Max screams in agony as the electrical bolts detract back into his body. He falls to the ground, soaked. Spider-Man sighs out of relief.

Pedestrians stop, now safe, and smile knowing that it is over.

George looks towards his men helping the people hurt by the attack. He turns his head and looks towards Spider-Man slowly approaching Max.

Spider-Man looks down at Max, unconscious, taken aback…

SPIDER-MAN
No.

Spider-Man kneels beside him.

SPIDER-MAN
Max… what have you done?

Spider-Man looks up and around seeing many people severely injured and dead.

Spider-Man looks towards George Stacy and nods. His job here is done. He swings off.

George motions for his men to arrest Max.

INT. BECK’S APARTMENT- OFFICE

CLOSE UP on a hand opening a package… on the package we see a cinematic title reading ‘Journey to the Beyond’.

Beck pulls a souvenir booklet out of the package. On the front of the booklet we see a corny B movie poster for an outer space film- ‘Journey to the Beyond.’ Standing in the dead center of the poster is a man dressed in a regal garb, resembling Mysterio’s costume, holding a beautiful woman in his arms.

POV. BECK

ANGLE DOWN to see the actual costume in the box: a long flowing majestic dark purple cape, a body suit made out of alligator skin, dark purple gloves, and an astronaut’s bubbled helmet.

CLOSE UP on Quinton Beck looking towards the costume, sadistically grinning… his eyes display pure hatred and insanity. A man broken by the loss and destruction of his own ego…

QUINTON
Perfect.

FADE TO:
INT. PARKER APARTMENT- MAIN ROOM

Peter enters the apartment and looks around. He sighs as he closes the door behind him and shakes his head. How the hell did it get this way? Max was a “good kid,” right?

Mary Jane enters the room and looks at Peter; he looks at her and continues to walk off. Mary Jane senses that something is wrong.

MARY JANE
Peter…

Peter shakes his head no as he sits down on the couch and turns on the TV showing the destruction of Times Square. Maxwell Dillon’s picture appears on screen. She is also surprised. She sits down next to Peter. He looks at her for support, she takes his hand.

JUMP CUT:
EXT. MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON

ANGLE DOWN to see a Maximum Security Prison; heavily guarded. This is the place that all super villains and mutants go… specially designed cells to restrain them.

INT. MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON- WING

Angling around we see dozens upon dozens of super villains. Ranking amongst them is Swarm, The Wizard, The Trapster, and Hydroman.

Each cell is specifically designed to hold the villains. Think Magneato’s special cell in X-Men 2, but a lot more complex.

Guards lead Maxwell Dillon through the prison. He doesn’t dare look up, afraid, afraid of what he’s become. The guards stop and shove him into a cell designed with reflective glass- blocking the electricity from escaping!

Maxwell Dillon leans against the glass and looks out. This is not a scary image, rather a sympathetic and pitiful one.

We slowly back away as Dillon’s cell fades into the distance.

INT. PARKER APARTMENT- MAIN ROOM

Peter continues to watch the news, alone… KNOCK… KNOCK… KNOCK… Peter glances back towards the main entrance. He gets up and answers the door.

Aunt May is standing in the door way, looking in towards him. Peter looks at her surprised…

PETER
Aunt May, what are…

AUNT MAY
Mary Jane told me what’s happening Peter. I think it’s time you knew the truth…

Peter looks at Aunt May, afraid to hear the news…

AUNT MAY
I don’t even know where to begin… your parents- they weren’t traitors to their country.

AUNT MAY (V.O.)
They were on a mission. They’re duty was to infiltrate the Red Skull’s operations…

MARY
Jonathon, what’s happening? Jonathon?!

EXT. MILITARY CARGO PLANE

The military cargo plane DIVES going down for a crash landing.

INT. MILITARY BASE- BUNKER

The Red Skull watches the sky grinning. His work was done.

AUNT MAY (V.O.)
It was a top secret assignment in the Bureau, and it sadly remained one… even in the trades.

FLASH CUT:
INT. MILITARY CARGO PLANE

Jonathon holds firmly onto his wife’s hand… tears flowing down their face.

JONATHON
I’m sorry… Peter…

INT. MAY’S APARTMENT

Peter looks at Aunt May, tears flowing down his face…

AUNT MAY
Your parents were heroes… they always were, they always will be. No matter what a piece of paper says, it is not what defines who we are… it’s the choices we make in life that define us.

Peter nods his head.

AUNT MAY
Being a hero, it’s in your blood. It was always what you were meant to do. Who you were meant to become… you were always destined to do great things. Your parents, if they could see you now… they would be proud of the man you’ve become.

INT. BECK’S WORK ROOM

The room’s pitch black, we see a spark of light coming from the middle of the screen. We go in closer as we see hands in dark purple gloves working on a bubbled helmet. We hear a crackling laugh as smoke explodes around the room, darkening the screen!

FLASH CUT TO:
EXT. SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD- NIGHT

CLOSE UP on a street lamp as it flickers on and off. Pull back to reveal that every street lamp is being affected the same way!!!

CLOSE UP on the black pavement below Ellis’ feet cracking apart, similar to the impact of an Earthquake!!!

Ellis looks down, afraid.

Suddenly he is encircled in a cloud of smoke.

We hear a crackled laugh coming from within the smoke.

ELLIS
Who’s there?

Ellis sees MYSTERIO, fully in costume, approaching him. In the bubbled helmet we can see a very eerie black skeleton surrounded by a vivid green gas fading the skull in and out of focus.

ELLIS
W… Who are you?

Mysterio laughs as he steps closer towards Ellis. Ellis tries to back away, but he is trapped by the fog!

ELLIS
What the hell?!
(beat)
What do you want?

MYSTERIO
I want the world to know who I am. You want a story.

Ellis looks at Mysterio, confused.

MYSTERIO
I have a message I want you to deliver.

Mysterio takes out an envelope. Ellis nervously takes it, hands quivering out of fear.

ELLIS
To who?

MYSTERIO
You’re boss. I’m sure he’ll love to see what’s inside.

In an instant everything is gone! Mysterio, the smoke, everything!!!

Ellis blinks his eyes, not believing what he just saw… he looks down towards the ground. Nothing! The crack is gone!

CLOSE UP on a street light, working fine.

ANGLE DOWN on Ellis slowly and nervously looking down towards the envelope still in his hands. He looks back up and slowly walks off, rattled and afraid.

FLASH CUT:

NICK
Time to cash in.

A close up shot of Quinton begins to come to life!

QUINTON
Not yet.

The computer and lights turn off. Nick quickly gets up and looks around the room. The room lights on fire!!! Nick shields his eyes as he screams…

NICK
What the hell?!!!

Mysterio appears in the room, beside him. As the lights in the room flash vivid colors on the walls, as though the room is a dance floor!

MYSTERIO
Here.

Nick looks at Mysterio, afraid.

NICK
What do you want?

MYSTERIO
I have an offer that you can’t refuse. You forget all about Quinton Beck…

NICK
And in return?

MYSTERIO
I’ll offer you the first row seat in a spectacle like none other.

NICK
What kind of spectacle?

Mysterio’s skull grins.

MYSTERIO
The death of Spider-Man.

Nick looks at Mysterio, grinning- obviously interested.

NICK
You’ve got yourself a deal.

In an instant everything disappears. Nick looks around the room, confused…

NICK
Thanks for nothing.

He sees an envelope drop onto his desk, he approaches it cautiously and grins… the opportunity of a lifetime.

NICK
Hmm…

FLASH CUT:
EXT. MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON- NIGHT

Rain pours down from the gray ominous sky above towards the Maximum Security Prison.

The guards look around… they hear a crackling laugh…

GUARD
You hear that?

A grotesque monstrous face forms in the rain, laughing, as it stares down towards the guards below.

Multiple guards storm outside and start to fire into the rain!

The grotesque face grins as smoke and fire erupts everywhere!!! The guard scream as the fire disappears and they are knocked unconscious by the gas.

The guards stop and look towards the hall, afraid.

A blue ghostly form of horses stampeding, towards the guards, carrying a wooden cart carrying two old grungy cowboys whipping the horses with their whips, appears.

The guards scream as the hologram shoots straight through them. They faint, frightened…

Mysterio walks down the halls and laughs.

MYSTERIO
(sadistic)
Enjoying the show?

FLASH CUT:

The guards sit at their monitors as they switch off of camera mode and begin to play ‘Plan Nine from Outer Space’.

FLASH CUT:
INT. MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON- WING

Mysterio walks through the wing, looking around as the super villains look towards him yelling for him to save them… Mysterio notices a cell sparking with electricity, he approaches it.

Maxwell Dillon stops and looks towards him… not in the mood.

MAXWELL
What do you want?

MYSTERIO
I want to help you.

MAXWELL
How?

Mysterio pushes the cell aside and looks in towards Maxwell. His skull grins.

MYSTERIO
You want to be someone… here’s your chance.

Maxwell looks at Mysterio, curious… he nods his head okay.

INT. DAILY BUGLE- OFFICES

Ken Ellis stands beside Jameson, holding onto a piece of paper. Jameson smokes his cigar and grins.

ELLIS
Thanks sir.

Peter approaches them, curious.

PETER
What’s going on?

ELLIS
Got a letter, from this guy calling himself Mysterio…

Peter looks at Ellis, curious and caught off guard.

ELLIS
Wants us to print a message in the Daily Bugle, I got the exclusive.

PETER
Who’s Mysterio?

ELLIS
Some guy who can do magic… I think… I don’t know… point is: I’ve got the story of a life time.

Peter looks at the letter: “Print a notice in the Daily Bugle saying: If Spider-Man wants to learn the truth about himself, he should meet Mysterio atop the Friedman’s Power Plant Generator Complex tonight.”

ELLIS (CONT’D)
So, want to be there beside me? Camera man… huh, come on…

Peter looks at the letter and back towards Ellis and begins to back away. He shakes his head no. All, but Betty, rejoice in the Bugle’s big lead.

JAMESON
What the hell, we have nothing to lose. Robbie, print that notice IMMEDIATELY!!! And if it means the end of Spider-Man, I’ll become a hero to this city!

We hear the sound of lightning striking in the distance as we fade to…

INT. PARKER APARTMENT- MAIN ROOM

Peter stares out over city. Rain pours from the sky above and lightning flashes outside his window. Peter takes a deep breath and leans his head against the window.

Mary Jane approaches him.

MARY JANE
What are you going to do?

Peter sighs as he nods his head…

PETER
I’m heading out. The city needs me. It’s always needed me. Do you know what Spiders are? They’re protectors. They protect people. And in this world people need all the help they can get.

MARY JANE
Peter, what are you saying?

PETER
Uncle Ben once told me that my father sent a Spider to watch out for me, to protect me. Now it’s my turn to protect them…

Peter motions outside.

PETER
They need me now more than ever. Live or die, I’m going to live by their legacy.

Electro nods his head…

ELECTRO
I’m somebody now.

SPIDER-MAN
Max… it…

Electro looks at Spider-Man angry. He shoots out a charge of electricity and forces Spider-Man to rise from the ground.

ELECTRO

SPIDER-MAN
I know that you’re not a killer.

Electro flings Spider-Man off to the side.

ELECTRO

SPIDER-MAN
You’re not a bad guy Max!

Electro shakes his head no…

ELECTRO

Lightning bolts strike down onto the building from above.

SPIDER-MAN
I don’t want to fight you Max.

MAXWELL
Do you think my father will be proud?

Spider-Man looks at Maxwell, sympathetically, and nods his head.

SPIDER-MAN

PETER
Mysterio…

Mysterio nods his head. Peter looks over towards Maxwell and then back towards Mysterio, narrowing his eyes, angry…

MYSTERIO
Oh don’t mind him. He was just an actor serving out his purpose in life.

Peter looks at Mysterio, taken aback… he remembers the voice.

PETER
Quinton Beck?

MYSTERIO
The one and the only, tell me are you enjoying the show?

PETER
Life isn’t a movie!

MYSTERIO
It should be. It would be a heck of a lot more exciting.

PETER
The city is tearing itself apart…

MYSTERIO
I know. Amazing isn’t it? They’ve always wanted to experience a film first hand, well now they are… I bet they’re dying for it too. Don’t you?
(beat)
Always the one pushed to the side… always the one looked at as just an “action” director. But, I’m much, much more than that. I’m a God. And it’s time people begin to recognize that.

PETER
Let them go!

Mysterio laughs as he shakes his head no.

MYSTERIO
I’m having way too much fun to let it end this quickly.
(beat)
Too short of a run time.

Peter charges towards Mysterio, goes in for the tackle. Mysterio disappears! Peter scrapes up against the debris as he looks around… Mysterio appears behind him, arms folded.

MYSTERIO
Looking for me?

Peter is encircled by a ring of fire… he looks around at everything around him and then back towards Mysterio.

PETER
You always understood technology and make believe.

Peter walks through the flames, unhurt.

PETER
But, you never understood life.

Peter charges at Mysterio. They launch into an epic fight while the building breaks apart beneath them.

A flying demon circles around them and whips its tail out towards Peter knocking him back.

Peter plummets down towards the hellish pit below and through the center of it… the damned in the crevice of the walls reach out towards him. Mysterio watches on, loving this…

MYSTERIO
To the death of Spider-Man.

Peter quickly attaches a web and web swings back up onto the rooftop, landing behind Mysterio.

PETER
Not yet fishbowl head.

Peter PUNCHES Mysterio back… Mysterio plummets towards the ground below! Mysterio screams in horror as he dives down towards the hellish abyss. Peter sends out webs, slowing Mysterio’s fall. Mysterio hits the ground, safely. His helmet cracks upon impact… a technological glitch changes the facial plate from a skull to a demon and then Quinton Beck. He squirms in agony.

Peter grabs his mask and puts it back on as he descends towards the ground below. Everything turns back to normal…

Spider-Man approaches Quinton.

QUINTON
Why didn’t you kill me?

SPIDER-MAN
Because I’m not the bad guy.

Quinton laughs as he nods his head.

QUINTON
Yes… you are… you ruined me.

SPIDER-MAN
You ruined yourself.

Cop cars arrive on the scene. George steps out. Spider-Man looks at Captain George Stacy.

SPIDER-MAN
Take him away.

Spider-Man walks off as the police arrest Quinton Beck. Quinton laughs as he shakes his head no.

QUINTON
I’m not the bad guy… I’m not the bad guy.

The police raise Quinton onto his own two feet. Quinton looks at Spider-Man, furious.

QUINTON
All Spider-Man does is sell newspapers!!! You’re never going to make any real significance! Never!!!

Spider-Man looks back towards Quinton as the police escort him into the back of the police car. Quinton laughs…

QUINTON
Never.

Spider-Man lowers his head as the police car drives off. He looks around seeing people injured and dead lying on the streets… all looking towards him for an answer that he doesn’t have to give.

FADE TO:

Aunt May approaches Peter from a distance…

AUNT MAY
Mary Jane told me I’d find you out here.

Peter looks towards Aunt May, not knowing what to say.

AUNT MAY
Peter, what’s wrong?

PETER
Am I doing the right thing with my life?

AUNT MAY
Peter, you save lives every day. Have you any idea how many people you’ve saved as Spider-Man? I looked it up on the internet and it was over ten thousand…

Peter looks at Aunt May and shakes his head.

PETER
It’s not enough. There has to be more I can do.

All Spider-Man does is sell newspapers, Aunt May. Beck said it himself… it’s just a way to make sure I don’t do anything of any real significance.

Peter looks down towards the grave and nods his head, determined.

PETER
I know what I have to do. I know who I was always meant to be. To stop evil, to truly stop the evil in this city- you have to get to its very core… where it all begins. Where it always begins: adolescence.

SPIDER-MAN 5

GIVING INTO THE DARKNESS

THE BREAK DOWN

Sometimes a writer can start a project that has an effect on how they manage their daily routines. Spider-Man 5 was one of those projects.

After receiving great reviews for my take on a possible Spider-Man 4, I knew that I had to go back to the drawing board to see if I could create a sequel that could top that. Unlike the last story, I started thinking about the villains first and how to bring them to life second. The two villains that I’ve always loved and thought could make a rather interesting film were Electro and Mysterio.

The next thing I did was consider where Peter is in his life and think about the next step he would have to take towards becoming the man behind the mask. That answer came surprisingly in how Peter Parker would later change his career choice and become a high school science teacher. A lot of teachers consider their jobs to be not only teaching their students important course material, but also guiding the students in their life.

For that to take effect, I decided on using the MTV version of Maxwell Dillon with a dash of the classic comics, to create a surprisingly complex character frighteningly relevant to the world we live in today. Rather than going over the top with the way I depicted Maxwell Dillon, as a possible Columbine kid, I went with what I believe to be the more subtle approach.

The most challenging aspect was that I had to make Maxwell a sympathetic character; I had to create a character that an audience could sympathize with from beginning to end. He makes the wrong choices after he becomes Electro; he kills his fellow students as a means of getting revenge. But, at the same time we couldn’t be scared of him we had to feel sorry for him so that by the time he dies at the end of the film we feel sad that he was unfairly taken before his time.

The way I decided to go about doing this was to get inside of Maxwell Dillon’s head, to start to think like he thinks. Which was a good and bad idea- good in that I think it affected the tone of the project, but bad in that it began to take an effect on me personally. I literally had to take breaks between writing every scene, specifically the scenes dealing with Maxwell Dillon because it was too much to handle. After every scene that I wrote, I felt depressed and absolutely miserable. There was even a day that I staid inside my room for the whole day and my parents became worried that something was wrong. Reading back over the scenes that I had just written a day prior, I can sense the gloom within the context of the pages, so all in all I think it worked out for the best although I created a psychological scar or two from the experience.

The key that set this in motion was that rather than presenting Maxwell Dillon in a more animated world, like the MTV take on the character, I put that character into the real world and real world situations using more of a subtle nature and inner gloom that the character evokes to bring Maxwell Dillon to life.

The day that he gets electrocuted is the day the spirit of Maxwell Dillon dies. He has no reason to live anymore. The scariest person is a person who has suicidal tendencies because that makes them reckless and spontaneous. There is no telling what they will do. Another big part in this “death” is the moment that he lets out his rage and accidentally kills his father. Thus, in that one night he was broken and as a result became Electro. It is not until the end of the film, his moments with Peter, that Maxwell’s essence comes back. Maxwell dies a hero, realizing that what he did was wrong and knowing that he had to find a way to set things right. The purest moment that shows Maxwell Dillon as being a more pitiful and sympathetic character than someone to fear is when he utters his dying words, “do you think my father will finally be proud of me?”

A FINAL JOURNEY

Peter’s journey is that of becoming a man. Taking all of the lessons he’s learned in the past and fighting for justice. This is truly, actually, the first Spider-Man film with no great lesson to be taught. He is, however, greatly affected by his relationship with Maxwell Dillon. It is this relationship that sets him off on his path to becoming a teacher- because he believes he can help solve the problem of criminality before it gets worse.

THE EGO

The overall theme of this film due to the two villains is how easily one can be pushed off the edge, whether it be through the loss of ego or being picked on by the school bully.

Peter has to figure out what he wants to do for the rest of his life. This is cementing the journey from boy to man. By the end of the film, we will have seen that every journey has made an impact on the man Peter has become… he is truly Spider-Man.

COMMENTARY

THE ABANDONED WAREHOUSE

Typically these movies all began with an opening voice over by Peter Parker, which would in turn begin the main narrative of the film. While doing my research I stumbled upon the history of a “villain” called Blaze. Blaze was just an ordinary teenage college aged guy pretending to be a super villain for kicks. Thus, while keeping in the spirit of “things are never as they appear” due to Mysterio, I chose to involve Blaze in a complicated opening set up which would hopefully in turn fool the audience.

The set up is in spirit similar to the way things went down in the comic.

Thus, rather than starting off with the regular Peter Parker voice over monologue, I chose to focus on pulling a rug out from under the audience in preparation for what was to come in another way- Mysterio.

The dialogue that was perhaps the most fun to write throughout this process was Johnny Storm as “the villain.” I found this dialogue to be fun to write because it wasn’t necessarily hero dialogue nor was it villain dialogue per say, it was dialogue of a hero pretending to be a villain and thus underhandedly mocking the way that villains carry themselves.

ELECTRICAL STATION

The next scene was very important as well because it set up the main villain of the film, Maxwell Dillon aka Electro.

In this scene I wanted to set up and establish a couple of things. One, that Maxwell Dillon is a very depressed young man who seems like his world is crushing in around him. Secondly, I wanted to establish the strained relationship with his father that bordered on abuse. And third, I had to establish the electrical station and that Maxwell is a lineman.

When looking through the songs at my disposal for this scene, I chose the one that I remembered the most from the film ‘Disturbia’- “Lonely Day” by System of a Down. I personally really like the song and felt that it would establish the right atmosphere needed for this scene.

In a PG-13 you are only allowed to say the f word once and I also knew most readers here would not expect the word to be used at all. Thus, the line “fcking prick” was used to surprise the audience in a “did he just—“ manner. Personally I think it works due to that unexpectedness of the line.

DINER

When considering the best way to tie Mysterio into Peter’s story, I decided to link Mary Jane’s aspiring career with that of the infamous director Quinton Beck.

Throughout the various alterations Quinton has similarly gone from career to career or really no showbiz career at all. I found the director Quinton Beck to be the best version to go with for the film.

One thing that I soon discovered about these two villains, Electro and Mysterio is that they both revolve somewhat around ego. Whereas Electro is more sympathetic and has a rather poor ego, Mysterio is the opposite. Mysterio allows for his ego to fuel him and get the better of him to very dangerous degrees as we will soon find out.

DILLON’S FAMILY HOME

This was a scene to really just reestablish Maxwell’s home life. We see that he has an abusive father, that his parents constantly complain, and that he feels like an outsider at home that isolates himself through drug usage.

EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY

Maxwell going to school is really where the whole possible Columbine aspects begin to come into play. We see that Maxwell is a loner who feels that the world, both at home and at school, is against him.

It was very important for me to play upon the subtly when upon first entering the school. No spoken dialogue, just physical actions that show us his relationship to his peers and how he responds to this.

During class we see that Maxwell is a guy who doesn’t stand up for himself, he has a broken ego and is someone who has a very fragile life. He is shy. He even allows for the class jock to pick on him.

Peter notices this and decides to do something about it. From this we see that rather than thankful, Maxwell is caught off guard and is wondering why Peter did this for him and if Peter has an ulterior motive.

This scene also introduces Peter’s main bulk of the story, researching about his parents this will lead to shedding some light on his past for the audience.

FILM SHOOT

I wanted our introduction to Quinton Beck and his world to be shrouded in mystery and in a surprise. Thus, I set the shot up like any other action sequence with perhaps a little more corn and cheese effect than typical. This would later allow for the whole gist of the scene- being a film shoot- to not seem entirely out of place.

Originally Quinton was going to just demolish the building, but going further in the screenplay I realized that I needed to set it up earlier on that Quinton is also a special effects wizard, particularly with holograms. Thus a demolished building becomes a building that just looks like it’s about to fall apart and actually doesn’t.

We also see an inkling that Mary Jane may be turned on by Quinton’s “power” in show business and what he can offer her, but declines to follow up with this. Peter however notices this part and not the later, which will later become an integral part in one of their future arguments.

Nick Katzenberg is a character from the comics that I found would work perfectly in this film. We needed a sleazy paparazzi guy and having one already in the comics I decided to just bring the character into the film rather than creating one out of thin air.

RESEARCHING THE PAST

The next aspect comes into the film when Peter decides that he needs to find himself and in order to do that he decides to look to the past and finds a disturbing article telling him that his parents were traitors against their own country.

He follows this up by going to Tony Stark. This was always going to be a hero cameo, but I didn’t know which hero to go with until I got there in the writing process. I decided upon Tony Stark because I figured he would be the one with the highest possibility of getting the information that Spider-Man needs.

PSYCHOLOGIST

This scene was actually inspired by the film ‘Stay’, in which a young man tells a psychologist that he plans on killing himself.

This also allowed me to “cheat” the system, having the psychologist scene allow Maxwell Dillon to have an outer monologue telling the audience exactly how he feels and what this might and actually “does” lead to.

THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE

This scene idea came directly from the 90s cartoon series and this is particularly evident in how the second helicopter crashes down. The rest of the action in this sequence was created to show Quinton’s disregard for people’s lives and to provide a kick ass action sequence to keep that lust for action fulfilled.

The scene of Peter going away at just the right moment and returning afterwards was inspired by the Superman films, during which Clark Kent usually excuses himself from Lois Lane so that he can change into Superman to save the day and then return acting as though he missed everything.

The films “Nightmare Factory”, “Deadlier by the Dozen”, and “Mysteries of the Dead” are actually titles for the Spider-Man comics in which Mysterio has appeared. Thus, this is one of those inside references for fans that I love to throw in there.

I am especially pleased with how Quinton carries himself during this scene, we see a man with a complete disregard for life and the only care in the world that he has is to get a shot for a movie. Movies are essential and all important, life isn’t. Thus, Quinton acts like a kid in a candy store.

Spider-Man’s first encounter with Quinton was always essential because this is the only scene they share together until the finale. Thus, I had Quinton putting on an arrogant face and shoving Spider-Man to the side, when in reality he somewhat realizes what he has just done and what the consequences of his actions may be. Thus, the hostility is aimed at both himself and Spider-Man in a sense.

THE PARTY

The whole party scene was inspired by the MTV version of Electro. The main challenge in this was changing it to make more sense than a paintball declination rite. Thus, at the party I had Brad specifically aiming to embarrass Maxwell in front of Cynthia, the girl of his dreams.

Thus, Maxwell’s psychological trauma comes to the forefront when he is turned into the attention of mockery. At this point his whole world has collapsed around him.

ARGUMENT

Peter and Mary Jane’s argument was something that I could see possibly happening in the life of a hero. Peter naturally feels that it is his responsibility to keep Mary Jane safe which allows brings in his being a little too guarded with her. Even though, obviously, he means for the best and just wants her to be safe.

Thus, not necessarily a major aspect of the film there is an underlying depiction of regular relationships fights brought to the superhero level which is resolved at the end after the shocking tragic reveal of what Max has become.

THE INFORMATION

When Spider-Man retrieves the information about his parents, I wanted to show this image visually, but also in a way which shows a one sided view of what happened. We only see as much as Peter knows from the document. The rest of the story is provided at the end of the film by Aunt May who fills in the gaps.

The flashback of Child Peter is from the Spider-Man movie novel written by Peter David.

BECOMING ELECTRO

I wanted a scene of Maxwell becoming Electro that resembled a mixture of the classic comic books and the MTV version of the character. Thus, I had Maxwell going to the electrical station at night during a storm depressed as hell and he yells at God about how he hates his life and how it isn’t fair. The dialogue in this scene was actually edited down to the tighter form that it is in now, the expanded dialogue gave it a stretching the scene longer than needed form. After yelling at God, Maxwell decides to commit suicide and thus from this he becomes Electro- but, of course not knowing about what has happened he sees it as a sick joke.

When he returns home, he learns what happens to him the hard way by accidentally killing his father. Here we learn that although they have had a stressed relationship, Maxwell still loved his father and is scared by what he just did. When his mother enters threatening to call the police, he is scared and decides to kill her because it is the only way that he can get away.

RETURNING TO EMPIRE STATE UNIVERSITY

When Max returns to Empire State University we see that he has changed, which we will learn later is a defense mechanism against what he has just become and did. He never truly feels comfortable as Max.

Also notice the name changes throughout the screenplay- altering between Maxwell, Max and Electro each representing a separate persona.

The last line is kind of cheesy, I admit it. But, I’m also the type of film maker who finds that some cheese is good as long as it is well balanced. In my opinion it are these type of lines that stand out the best and as a result are the most memorable- in a good way.

THE AUDIENCE WANTS REALITY

In the following scene we hear Quinton’s outer monologue in which he describes the way he approaches the film process and his need to make everything real. The line that will hopefully stand out from this scene is, “You make them believe, you control them.” That line truly comes into play once he becomes Mysterio.

JAMESON’S OFFICE

This scene was just something I threw in for Peter’s story to follow up further on the Brooklyn Bridge scene. What I tried to accomplish with this scene is show the difficulty of having two personas- one persona knows something while the other does not.

THE KILL

Max, after killing his parents, decides that this is who he is now and he has to continue doing it. Thus, his extreme depression and fear leads him into killing Brad out of revenge and to get his mind off of everything.

I didn’t want us to see the actual murder because I felt it would be more effective if the first time it appears to us in a type of reveal shot after the murder has taken place.

THE MAN WHO WOULD BE SPIDER-MAN

In this scene I wanted to just do a couple of things- display Quinton’s power of effects wizardry, and have him find out that the film has been shut down by the producing company.

After this we begin to see Quinton truly break down, he begins this by approaching Peter in the hope that he will help him with a film that would ruin Spider-Man’s, for the most part, positive public image. In essence this is Quinton wanting to destroy Spider-Man, just like he blames Spider-Man for ‘destroying’ him. Peter declining this offer shows us a scary image of the man beneath Quinton’s arrogance exterior- he is a man controlled by his EGO.

Quinton’s ego is dangerous and when his ego begins to fall apart, which is more or less what carries him by in life, he falls apart and psychologically breaks.

THE FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH ELECTRICITY

Having to delete Spider-Man’s and George’s rooftop conversation from the previous screenplay, I really wanted to have a scene similar to that in this which would stay throughout all drafts and offer something significant to the plot.

Spider-Man’s first encounter with Electro is highly inspired by their encounter in Electro’s first appearance in the classic Spider-Man comics. The action is slightly added upon, lines were added and some lines from the comic were used during this fight sequence.

THE INSANTIY BEGINS

The following scene with Beck and the ones that follow are a means for me to casually show Quinton’s gradual breakdown, and loss of self as he dedicates himself to getting revenge on Spider-Man, without too much focus to derail from the main plot of the film.

MAX’S KILL/ THE CATHEDRAL/ MONTAGE

Maxwell’s dialogue while killing Alex is taken from the MTV episode “The Party.”

Brad was originally going to be the only kill we saw. The reason for Alex’s death scene was to provide a sense that Max was killing other students besides Brad and that he was tactically killing them one by one, careful not to get caught. This shows more of a contrast to him ‘erupting’ in Times Square and killing and injuring many of the people around him. This scene would also provide a more fluid transition into the news footage and scene at the church.

In the middle of these two scenes was originally a report by a newscaster about the recent deaths, but I found that this scene took too much away from the flow of the narrative and came off as trying to “cheat” the information into the story. Without this scene, the narrative flowed better and I believe the audience could still follow what was going on and what happened behind the scenes.

In the following montage I wanted to have Peter’s trouble over the possibility of his parents being criminals and Beck’s break down continue to have a presence. But, the main scene in this is Max trying to reach out to his psychologist due to feeling guilty over what he’s done- but, he can’t let it go. This leads to the scene in which he finally plummets to the lowest level he can fall to- a massacre at Times Square.

TIMES SQUARE BREAK DOWN

This was my version of a Columbine shooting type scenario. This scene also allowed for another action sequence, which there are not that much of in this screenplay.

There was a great back drop location for the action sequence to take place and it allowed for Max to use the electrical sources around him.

The way that Spider-Man stops Max, via the usage of water is ripped straight from Electro’s first appearance in the classic comics.

MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON

The Wizard, The Trapster, Hydroman and Electro in the classic comics would later become a criminal group known as the Frightful Four.

MYSTERIO’S ARRIVAL

I wanted Mysterio to have his classic costume, but I didn’t know exactly how he would make it. Calling a costume designer wouldn’t make that much sense. But, buying a costume from an old B rated movie? To me that seemed to fit in perfectly and make sense. I also wanted to show Mysterio working on the helmet so that it could do ‘tricks’ as well.

The following scenes with Mysterio were planned since the very beginning, albeit not the special effects that would follow. One rule that I kept to was escalation- everything had to escalate as it went on and then it finally ‘blew up’ to epic proportions when Mysterio breaks Electro out of the Maximum Security Prison.

The security camera joke was a spur of the moment add-on, I wanted Mysterio to affect the security cameras in some way and the funniest thing I could think of was him making the security screens begin to play ‘Plan Nine From Outer Space.’ How much Ed Wood can they take? Now taking bets.

DAILY BUGLE

This scene is inspired by a similar scene in Mysterio’s first appearance in the classic comics. The letter is almost word for word from the comic, with the exception of the location- which in the comics was the Brooklyn Bridge.

PETER’S APARTMENT

This is perhaps one of my favorite scenes in the screenplay, as I said cheesy dialogue often stands out the most and I find that to definitely be the case here. I love Peter’s whole monologue because it is classic movie dialogue.

THE FINAL FIGHT

I was saving the best for the last:

Electro’s costume was not originally going to be included, but later I decided that it might work due to Mysterio’s involvement and how it would give a more disturbing sense to the scene, no matter how ridiculous the costume may look in live action- that would add to the scene, not take away from it.

It was always my plan to have Maxwell stop Mysterio and thus dying a heroe’s death in the process. The final line of dialogue he says hit me one day and I personally found it very disturbing and true to life how that one moment sent his life crashing out of control.

Mysterio still being alive was also always planned from the beginning. I don’t know who actually might have thought that Mysterio died that fast- but, come on… he’s created duplicates numerous times in the past. Thus, this is more a reference to that. Continually pulling a rug from under the audience’s feet.

The decision to create hell through the effects came to me while writing the scene because I felt that it would make for one hell of an amazing action backdrop. In a way, Mysterio has already descended in- we see a man who has completely given into his ego and as a result has ripped himself completely away from reality. As shown in his dialogue, which also came as a lucky spur of the moment idea.

Mysterio’s fall serves to further represent his descent into hell. Throughout the screenplay, I discovered that both of these characters, Electro and Mysterio, were motivated by their own egos- whereas Maxwell fought his and died nobly high above, Mysterio gave into his and took the fall literally and metaphorically.

Mysterio was never going to die in this screenplay, he was used as a character to move the plot along and help Maxwell’s story progress near the end and serve as a contrast in the terms of ego. But, all in all I personally feel that Mysterio was presented in a way that kept the character and his own ‘journey’ in the film intact as well.

PETER PARKER: SCIENCE TEACHER

Some of the dialogue exchanged between May and Peter at Maxwell’s grave is also from the comics.

This whole film was leading to this one moment in time and I personally feel that it seems like a satisfactory and obvious conclusion for this story. I really don’t know where else to take Peter from here. So, will there be a Spider-Man 6? I doubt it, unless I miraculously find an area to take Peter to next and villain/s that would best serve out the function of aiding that story along.

AFTER CREDITS SCENE

This was something I decided to end at the very end to hint to where things might go from here, although it’s not really a story that I have interest in writing due to the fact that it would revolve more around the action elements.

But, this scene in essence shows that Quinton will try to get revenge on Spider-Man again.

The title of his screenplay 'Secrets, Puzzles, and Little Fears' is the title of a classic Sinister Six comic.

DELETED AND ALTERNATE SCENES

spider-man39.jpg

The following scene is the complete and original draft of the scene in which Max arrives at Empire State University. Two of the notable differences between this take and the one that I ended up using in the finished product is the inclusion of Brad and the alternate take of how Max and Cynthia interact.

The inclusion of Brad was added because the reader was probably wondering about his sudden disappearance on campus. Thus, including him in the scene I found a way to both highlight him and Alex, the two students that we physically see Max kill.

Max’s interaction with Cynthia was deleted later on because I believe that it held the character off from becoming Electro. If Max and Cynthia actually did start something, that would lead to a possible plot hole and confusion about motives. The scene made Max seem like he was going to become a popular student for finally standing up to Brad and getting the girl. But, rather than that outcome Max scares the people around him. Keeping him as an outcast and negating any possible confusion that may later arise as to his “place” at Empire State University.

Alex approaches Max.

ALEX
What game you think you’re playing here Maxwell?

Alex violently SHOVES Max. Max quickly GRABS his hand.

MAX
No game. And by the way, the name’s Max.

Max SHOVES Alex back knocking him violently up against a tree; Max stretches his muscles and yawns as he casually walks off.

Max notices Cynthia out of the corner of his eye. He grins and nods his head as he approaches her.

MAX
Hey… you and I never got to finish our conversation the other night.

Cynthia looks at Max with a newfound interest.

CYNTHIA
About what happened the other night, I’m…

Max waves it off…

MAX
Neanderthals. Don’t waste your time apologizing for them. Instead, spend your time with me. Friday night. Party by the lake. Interested?

Cynthia grins and nods. Max smiles back as he walks off.

Peter quickly approaches Max…

PETER
Hey, Max… is everything okay? You seem… different.

Max grins as he lowers his sunglasses.

MAX
You’re right… I am different.
(beat)
I guess I just woke up one day and realized that it was about time I started to enjoy life.

Max walks off, Peter looks towards him caught off guard…

The following scene shows Maxwell’s ‘shout out’ to God in its complete form. This scene was cut down and made tighter into the form that it is in now in the final draft of the screenplay because the extended version of this scene seemed to slow the pacing down to almost a stand still. I am still proud of this scene, regardless and have decided to include it in the deleted scenes:

Maxwell runs over the hills past the electrical poles. Rain pours down from the gray sky above. Maxwell stares up towards the sky above…

MAXWELL
Why?! Why do you do this to me! All I ever wanted was to fit in… to be someone… to have a life.

Maxwell wipes his tears away.

MAXWELL
You let them laugh at me. You let them ridicule me!!! Everyone hates me… everyone looks down on me like I’m…
(beat)
I’m nobody. I’ll never amount to anything! I know it’s true… but, why do you have laugh at me? Why do you have to let them always get their way?

Max looks at his hands, no sign of any scarring.

MAX
What the hell?

Max looks back at the electrical pole above and back towards his hands… he shakes his head in anger.

MAX
I hate you.

The following deleted scene appeared in between Max murdering Alex and the scene at the Cathedral. It was deleted because it slowed the pacing of the film and came off as too cliché and trying to “cheat” information into the film.

ELECTRO

ElectrobrawlinSpidey.jpg

Maxwell Dillon has been one of Spider-Man's most frequent and enduring adversaries, often fighting alongside some of the more powerful masterminds in the web-head's rogues gallery, rather than creating intricate plots of his own. Raised by his overprotective mother, after his father abandoned them, Max had ambitions of being an electrical engineer. However, after being convinced by his mother that he was not smart enough to pursue such a career, Max instead reluctantly took a job as a lineman for an electric company. While repairing a power line still connected to its spool, Max was struck by lightning. Instead of being killed, the freak accident caused a mutagenic change in his nervous system, allowing him to generate and control vast amounts of electricity. After creating a colorful costume, Max turned to a life of crime as Electro.

At the beginning of Electro's criminal career, J.Jonah Jameson began a smear campaign in the Daily Bugle proclaiming Electro to actually be an alter-ego for Spider-man. Intent on proving the publisher wrong, Spider-man faced Electro and was nearly killed by merely touching him. Using a fire hose, however, the web-slinger was able to defeat Electro. Sometime later in another attempt to deface Spider-man's reputation, Jameson secured Electro's supercharged services to battle the web-slinger on national television. Before an audience of millions, Spider-Man stood triumphant once more. Dillon was humiliated.

After a string of embarrassing defeats, decided to test his strength in numbers as a member of the Sinister Six, alongside Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, Mysterio and the Vulture. Drawing numbers, the plan was for each villain to face Spider-man in a different location that drew upon their respective talents one by one until one of them was victorious. However, they were eventually defeated and imprisoned.

In an attempt to win himself the glory and respect that had alluded him so frequently, Dillon tried to devise a master plan to control New York City's power supply. However, he was once again defeated by Spider-man and convinced to quit his criminal career...if only temporarily. He resurfaced as a member of the next incarnation of the Sinister Six, with Hobgoblin replacing the deceased Kraven the Hunter. Doctor Octopus betrayed the group and they were subsequently disbanded.

Electro was also a member of Mysterio's Sinister Seven, created to combat Spider-Man's insane, homicidal clone, Kaine. However, Kaine disappeared and with no further need to keep the group together, it was disbanded and Dillon returned to his self imposed exile

He was once again brought out of retirement by the Rose, who offered Dillon the chance at an experimental procedure to greatly enhance his abilities in exchange for his services as an underworld enforcer. Dillon and agreed, sensing the opportunity to rise above his past failures. After undergoing the procedure and dispatching several members of the True Believers, an offshoot of the Hand at the request of the Rose, Dillon returned to his original plan of taking over the New York City power supply. Once again defeated by Spider-Man, who had donned an insulated suit, a frustrated Dillon threw himself into the Hudson River, apparently killing himself.

However, Dillon survived as he reappeared as part of the next series of subsequent incarnations of the Sinister Six, each of which were either defeated or disbanded due to internal conflicts. The most recent incarnation, the Sinister Twelve, gathered by the Green Goblin as part of a larger plan to enable his escape from prison and destroy Spider-Man. They were defeated with the help of the combined efforts of Captain America, Iron Man, Daredevil, Yellowjacket and the Fantastic Four.
Electro was hired by Brainchild to free Karl Lykos from the Raft, a maximum-security prison designed to hold supervillians. Electro initiated a prison break the likes of which had never been seen, releasing scores of criminals. However, his actions also brought together a number of the world's most powerful heroes to contain the disaster including: Captain America, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, Matt Murdock, Sentry and Spider-Man, many of whom were trapped in the Raft when the power was shut off. With the exception of Daredevil (and Sentry at first), this impromptu gathering of heroes reunited shortly after the prison break to form a new Avengers team. Dillon tried to escape with his girlfriend, a waitress in Boston, but was captured by the new Avengers, the very team he inadvertently helped create.

MYSTERIO

Quentin Beck found his calling when his uncle gave him an old movie camera. Despite his widowed father making fun of him, he grew up to become a successful stunt man and special effects designer in Hollywood. That changed when he became frustrated and felt he wasn't getting the recognition he deserved. First he teamed up with the Tinkerer to steal industrial and military plans, with Beck donning an alien costume to throw potential snoopers off the track and leading a group of supposed extraterrestrials. Later, an article in the Daily Bugle gave Beck the idea of pretending to be Spider-Man and framing him for crimes, then becoming a hero and bringing Spider-Man to justice. Beck studied Spider-Man for weeks and was able to duplicate his powers, apart from spider-sense, mechanically. After a few robberies posing as the web-slinger, which added more grist to the mill for J. Jonah Jameson's vendetta, Beck, as Mysterio, trounced an unsuspecting Spider-Man. When they next met, Beck fought and apparently beat Spider-Man, then boasted how he had achieved it all. Spider-Man taped the confession and cleared his name. Despite the clever gadgetry Beck built in to the Mysterio costume, Spider-Man managed to defeat him. Beck next joined up with Doctor Octopus when he formed the Sinister Six but the group had no better luck in defeating Spider-Man. Then Beck posed as Doctor Ludwig Rinehart, a psychiatrist visiting from Europe. Using illusions, Beck convinced Spider-Man that he was going mad and could only be cured if he revealed his secret identity. As Spider-Man was about to do just that, Jonah Jameson and Flash Thompson burst in, Jonah having been told that Rinehart was a fraud. This unexpected arrival spoiled Mysterio's scheme and Beck was soon returned to prison. Now unemployed, and with a criminal record, Beck planned a way to take revenge against Spider-Man and Jameson by staging a car crash where Spider-Man was the cause, and Jameson supposedly died. In reality, the "body" was an automaton, and the real Jameson was placed in a special-effects version of Hell. Emboldened by the seeming success of his plan, Beck found the courage to call a childhood friend, Betsy Schneider, and they started dating. After Spider-Man rescued Jameson, Betsy admiringly told Beck that they could make lots of money off his story. Beck became enraged, certain she was only using him. Later, he proposed marriage to Betsy, but she had changed her mind about him.

In yet another plan of revenge, Beck teamed up with the Wizard against Spider-Man and the Human Torch; after that failed, he bided his time in jail until he was able to escape. He then devised a series of elaborate traps in an abandoned amusement park, convincing Spider-Man that he was only six inches high. Back in prison, Beck had an epiphany of sorts; he realized that master criminals spent more time avoiding capture and battling foes than they did accumulating wealth and gaining power. He devised a quiet, long-term plan, a nursing home scam whereby he would trick the infirm into signing all their wealth over to him. To this end, he made use of his cellmate, Daniel Berkhart, taking him into his confidence, teaching him all his secrets and training him to replace him as Mysterio, even as he engineered his own "death". Berkhart was released and he conforted Spider-Man, but was defeated eventually.

Later, Beck assumed the identity of Doctor Rinehart and ran his scam at the Restwell Nursing Home on Long Island. He amassed eight million dollars in three years but ran afoul of the Burglar who had killed Peter's Uncle Ben. The Burglar had broken into the Parker home years before in search of a treasure hidden in the 1930s by the gangster Dutch Mallone and now sought more information from Aunt May who was a resident of the nursing home. The Burglar held "Rinehart" prisoner, inducing the "Doctor" to help. Beck figured he could dispose of the Burglar once he learned the treasure's location so he faked May's death from a heart attack to allow the Burglar to take her from the nursing home without Peter knowing. Spider-Man, however, recognized Beck and confronted him after battling numerous illusions. Eventually, Beck escaped to work on other, safer scams, among them a scheme to undermine Spider-Man's confidence by making him the cause of an innocent bystanders death.

These plans failed and Beck rejoined the Sinister Six but bailed out when he realized that Dr. Octopus was using the group for his own ends. Later, the other five met, intending to get revenge on Dr. Octopus but Octavius anticipated such an attack and instead had another proposition for them involving the appropriation of Hydra's satellite control station. The others reluctantly accepted, though Beck secretly planned to take over once they had obtained their goal. During a heated battle with a number of different heroes, Beck made his play, causing the heroes to fight each other, but he was knocked unconscious by Deathlok, who literally saw through the illusions.

Now unhinged, possibly due to exposure to his own hallucinogenic mist, Beck posed as Mr. Gerde, Dr. Octopus's attorney (after the multi-armed criminal's apparent death) and forged a videotaped will, that used Octavius's relative Elias Hargrove as a pawn along with the remainder of the Sinister Six. Using misdirection and Spider-Man, Beck stole a data disk containing details on underground figures. He needed Hargrove to get the right code, but Hargrove had worked out that the tape was a fake. Before he could coerce Hargrove, the Scarlet Spider stopped Beck. Beck undid the booby-trapped data disk, but the Scarlet Spider managed to escape with Hargrove just before the building exploded, with Beck apparently caught in the blast.

In a new scheme, Beck assumed the identity of Rudolph Hines and set up a new network, "Mystery Vision", which sent addictive subliminal signals to viewers mesmerized in front of their TVs. With ratings soaring, Beck also plotted to use an unsuspecting Spider-Man (Ben Reilly) as part of his programming. He tricked Spider-Man into wearing receivers, but when Ben realized what was happening he was able to trace the source of the transmissions and put the transmitter out of action. With no special signal, the networks ratings plummeted, and Beck's fame was over. While in prison after another failed union with the Sinister Six, he learned he was dying as a result of prolonged exposure to his special effects chemicals. On release he planned his swan song. But the Spider-Man was not the one he knew, so he decided to destroy Daredevil instead. Buying information from the Kingpin, he proceeded to drive Daredevil insane, both with drugs and by harming or killing those close to him. Beck's final attempt to goad Daredevil into killing him failed, and he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. Even after death Beck’s soul didn’t get to rest. His soul was sent to hell for his evil doings and resided there till the Pitiful One gave him a chance to go back, although he was later sent back by Dead Girl and Doctor Strange. Recently Quentin was again seen in the living world when the new Mysterio (Francis Klum) appeared. He had bought Beck’s old costume and attacked school where Peter Parker had been working. After Francis had secured the school by surrounding it with knockout gas and ranting how great he was, Beck made his entrance and lectured Francis how he wasn't ready to fill his shoes. Francis acted fast and tried to teleport himself inside Beck’s body, but Beck transformed himself to reddish hell flames and burned Francis slightly. Francis didn’t believe that he was Beck and accused him of being Daniel Berkhart, but Beck informed him that Daniel arrived just moments ago. He also revealed that he and his associates were interested in how Klum's fight against Spider-Man and Daniel would go before vanishing in a puff of smoke. Soon Spider-Man and Daniel arrived and fight ensued with three of them. Meanwhile Beck sought out Miss Arrow, the school's new nurse. She didn’t believe that he was Beck so he took off his helmet, and showed her that half of his face was missing. He revealed to Miss Arrow that he was hired by certain individuals to serve their needs and told her that she, him and Spider-Man are just pieces in a game that is taking stage in cosmic proportions. Before he left he convinced Miss Arrow to convince Peter to stay working in the school.

THE HUMAN TORCH

Following his sister, Sue, Johnny joined Reed Richards' crew in a space flight. Riddled with cosmic radiation, Johnny transformed into a flaming monster when the flight crashed back to earth. Calling himself Human Torch in tribute to the World War II era hero of the same name, the youthful Johnny found new adventure as part of the Fantastic Four, proving to be an invaluable if somewhat volatile member of the team.

Johnny met another teenage hero, Spider-Man, who broke into the Baxter Building hoping to impress the FF. Despite their early misunderstandings, the Torch and Spider-Man eventually became good friends.

IRON MAN

Tony Stark was sent to Vietnam to supervise a field test for one of his tranistorized weapons. While he was there Stark trip on a booby trap and a piece of shrapnel was lodged in his chest.

Stark designed and built an electrically powered suit of armor and equipped with heavy offensive weaponry. The armor also contained pacemaker like device which enables Stark's heart to keep beating after the shrapnel entered it.

Over the years Stark constantly refined and modified the design of his armor. Stark eventually underwent heart transplant so that he was no longer obligated to wear his metallic chest plate. In recent years Tony Stark's greatest nemesis has been alcoholism. As a wealthy socialite, alcohol had been a constant part of his life.

CLOSING COMMENTS

I hope you all enjoyed Spider-Man 5, as much as I enjoyed putting it all together. I am personally very proud of this screenplay, yes it is shorter than my Spider-Man 4 but I feel that it is a much tighter script with more complex characters and a great pay off at the finale.

I don't have any story to follow this up with, so Spider-Man 5 will most likely be the final screenplay I write for this Spider-Man series in a while. If I come up with another story to tell, that I want to tell, then I will go back to the writing board- but, as it is this is the end.

Have a great Fourth of July.

UPDATE REPORT:

I am currently considering finishing up the saga with a Spider-Man 6 that would involve my own form of a Sinister Six.

I will not release the details as to which villains will form the Sinister Six, other than to say that no one will rise from the dead or have a change of heart. :cwink:

I believe that the villains I have picked can come together to create one hell of an exciting movie.

What else can I say?...

I am considering it due to the searching out of a challenge, I don't know if everything will work out though- so let's say it's more at a 70-80% possibility of being written. If it does premiere it would be late September or early October, most likely.

I am really tied down right now with work, summer school (to get ahead) and the possibility of writting a screenplay for film school that may perhaps, later on, be pitched to Lion's Gate Studios.

As for the tone of the film- it's, once again, going to be something completely different. For Spider-Man 4, I set out to do a Jekyll and Hyde type monster movie with dramatic characters and situations. In Spider-Man 5, I went for a more 'character study' approach to the mythos. Spider-Man 6 will also be a different venture from the rest.

The tone that I would be aiming for is a straight up action adventure flick, the only way to describe it is 'Live Free or Die Hard' meets a "disaster" movie of epic villainous proportions! Less structured around character study and more structured around being a fun popcorn flick that is tense, funny, and has amazing action set pieces.

So, I just thought that I should let you guys know that I had a flash of inspiration, on where I might be able to explore next with these characters, and that Spider-Man 6 may actually happen now.

Don't keep me to my word, but is it possible? Hell yeah, if the stars allign- as it were- expect a Spider-Man 6: Rise of the Sinister Six (lol, pun definitely not intended) late September, early October.

I will DEFINITELY make a Spider-Man 6: Rise of the Sinister Six movie!!!

I have outlined what I believe to be a great, twisting plot, with a lot of kick ass action sequences and placing the action/adventure side first and to the forefront of the film.

The only way that I can describe this is imagine 'Live Free or Die Hard' with end of the world effects, superheroes and supervillains. That's what this film will be. A great popcorn flick that has Spider-Man pitted against six enemies.

I am making sure that I detail this to the very minute details to have this come out as good as humanly possible. I have never done a film like this before, thus for me it's more the goal to face the challenges ahead of me as I tackle a new type of genre within this three film arc I have created.

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm currently on page twenty, out of possible one hundred or more... so, it should be ready to premiere sometime in September. October at latest. There will be no trailer this time around, because I want to keep the big action set pieces under wraps.

Rather than a teaser/ trailer I put together this piece of promotional artwork:
