Spider-Man: Brand New Day General News and Discussion Thread

If Spiderman : Brand New Day is indeed delayed to 2027 , that'll be six years, between Spider-man films.

That would be the biggest delay between Spiderman solo films , since Sony acquired the film and tv rights to Spiderman, in the late 90s.

The biggest gap so far has been 5 years between Spiderman 3 and The Amazing Spiderman.

Sony should have fast tracked the movie, at least its development stage. When Tom Holland was having a hiatus, they should have polished the story/script by that period. Their other Marvel films also kept them pre-occupied.

As of now BND is still set for next year. I don't see Sony pushing this any further out than they already have.

Notably, the new calendar saw the studio remove several unannounced Marvel titles off of its calendar. The date of Feb. 13, 2026, previously slotted for an “Untitled Marvel” project, has been removed from the schedule. Meanwhile, the dates of Nov. 6, 2026 and Nov. 5, 2027 — also both previously set for “Untitled Marvel” features — have been amended to simply “Untitled Disney” films.
With those changes, “Avengers: Doomsday” and Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” are now the only Marvel Cinematic Universe entries slated to hit theaters in 2026.

I didn't think this is gonna be delayed too until I saw that article. So let me adjust my expectation. If its delayed, there's going to be 16 months without a new Mcu film. I think thats almost as long as the gap between Black Widow and Far from Home.
I went back to this and...

Far from Home - July 2, 2019
Black Widow - July 9, 2021
Gap = 24 months

First Steps - July 25, 2025
Doomsday - December 16, 2026
Gap = 16 months

I forgot Far from Home was released in July, not December. If Brand New Day stays in July. Its still over a year from First Steps. I wonder what happened to the other 2026 Marvel movies. They had place holder dates for February and November. We still don't have a director for Doctor Strange 3 and Shang-Chi 2.

The article I just linked shows they dropped the other two 2026 dates.

Well the frequent leaker that Marvel was trying to fire or sue into oblivion (the account has since disappeared) once said last August it was not going to be a multiverse movie anyway.

🚨 Gossip-seller alert:

BIG RPK EXCLUSIVE SPIDER-MAN

SCOOP

They are looking for a Harris Dickinson type for a role in Spider-Man Brand New Day

Last November he claimed they were looking for a Madelyn Cline-type for a role that is believed to have gone to Sadie Sink.

This may possibly be connected to this earlier purported casting call:

New Male Role - A resourceful young man in his early 20s.

If they’re looking to Most Wanted, Gang War, and/or the recent Sony video games for inspiration there could easily be a lot of villains in minor roles.

Spoilers for Daredevil:

A Gang War type story would make a lot of sense, especially if the Avengers films are pushed back.

Hmm I personally prefer Spider-Man vs just 1 villain.

It doesn't really matter if he fights 100 villains as long as the movie is good but I prefer if they just focus on 1, similar to the first two Sony Spider-Man movies.

I think in a sequel you can get away with 2 if you use one of them as the opening villain. And depending on who you use, it could be great. Shocker or Rhino for example I think are villains you don't need to give a deeper backstory to so you can have Spider-Man stop them in an opening action scene before we introduce the villain of the movie.

But I do agree the more of them you throw in there the harder it gets to balance.

As someone who's really soured on the MCU in the years since No Way Home came out (I liked Thunderbolts* a lot though, definitely a return to form), I don't think I've ever been less excited about an upcoming live-action Spidey movie. I'm not saying that I'm automatically assuming that this movie is gonna be bad or mediocre, I'm just setting my expectations a lot lower than usual. I really hope there's no more Multiverse stuff, and I think a return to Homecoming-style street-level crime fighting would be refreshing.

As much as I love the last film, and wouldn't trade it for any other version of a third MCU Spiderman film, it basically took off the table alot of potential sequels featuring MCU Versions of Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus , etc off the table., at least with this version of Peter Parker.

At the same time , the last film , in a way , felt like the end of this Peter's Journey .

Of course, they can tell new stories, with the new status quo , and new villains, and they will.

But the last film, to me, did feel like something of an ending to this Peter's story, even if the film ended a way for this Peter's story to continue.

So, we'll have to see if Feige and co has it together to tell another compelling story, that grabs the audience.

Coming several years after the last film , the expectations are gonna be high, in particular ,since it will be the film before Avengers : Doomsday.

NPN can confirm Bruce Banner’s appearance will be much larger than a cameo and Ruffalo will have a substantial role in the film.
Although it’s not confirmed if Banner will transform into Professor Hulk or the Savage Hulk persona, Banner can still play a pivotal role to the story as a scientific mentor to Peter Parker.

Banner as another professor perhaps if they’re correct.

It’s believed that as part of Marvel’s contract with Sony they have to supply at least one big MCU character in every Spider-Man movie. Last time it was Dr. Strange.

I off hand have a hard time seeing how Banner fits into the plot here. This wasn't on my bingo card

It's not believed based on the original contract. At least the contract through FFH we know it was 100% required. And I don't see why it still wouldn't be

MCU co-stars
1. Homecoming - Tony Stark
2. Far From Home - Nick Fury
3. No Way Home - Dr. Strange
4. Brand New Day - Bruce Banner (rumor)

John Rocha did claim, a while back ,that he had heard that Hulk was going to be apart of the new film, though, it may be that Bruce Banner, is apart of the film ,as opposed to the Hulk Showing up.

Hulk will show up. Especially if the villain is Mr. Negative. Mark my words, Mr Negative will do 1 of 2 things: bring back the savage Hulk or bring us Grey Hulk.

Just spitballing, but if Banner has a lab maybe the symbiote comes into play. Either way they have it in their pocket either for this movie or one of the Avengers movies. In the Secret Wars comic Spidey had the black suit.

Edit: I just realized realized now…

Mexico is a large country, but both Banner’s lab from She-Hulk and the Symbiote piece was left in Mexico:

So there goes the last hope that this was a street level movie lol

I love Ruffalo's Banner/Hulk though, so I'm excited. Confused, but excited. Feeling a little throwback to when they announced him for Ragnarok.

Hulk will have to join the action at one point, and the only Spider-Man villain I can see going 1v1 with him is Rhino (really doubt they'll have Venom, especially not as a villain). He was only mentioned in NWH, but since he was just adapted in the Kraven movie I really doubt they'd use him here. So it's gonna be interesting to speculate on who will be the villain.

I doubt they'll want to make the same mistakes as in BNW, but one has to wonder if another Hulk related character could show up. Skaar, or I wouldn't mind She Hulk showing up if it makes sense for the plot.

And finally, oh god. Holland and Ruffalo in the same press tour for the movie? The spoiler duo? They'll really have to be under watch the whole time lol
