EXCLUSIVE: Spider-Man Gets a Set of Parents and Another Villain

Campbell Scott has joined the cast of Columbia’s new Spider-Man movie while Irrfan Khan, Annie Parisse and Julianne Nicholson are in various stages of discussions to also join the production.

The movie, under the direction of Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, begins production this month in Los Angeles and is in the latter stages of its casting process.

Scott and Nicholson (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) will be Parker’s parents, who leave their son an orphan. Parker’s parents have rarely been seen in the various Marvel comic book series and have never appeared on-screen. It is unclear if they will appear in flashbacks, in a prologue or during the course of the movie.

Khan, best known for his work in Slumdog Millionaire, is playing a villain named Van Atter, joining Rhys Ifans as the movie’s bad guys.

Parisse, who appeared most recently in couple of episodes of AMC’s Rubicon, will be the villain’s wife.

Scott, repped by Paradigm, recurs on TV’s Royal Pains and also appeared in Damages.

Cool to see Pete's parents but who the hell is Van Atter? And is Parisse going to be Doc Connors' wife or Atter's wife?

Oh, gooood, VAN ATTER? that name... I don't know...

Double post.

Anyway, there's no such character in Spidey's stories (both 616 & Ultimate).

I seriously think "Van Atter" is a codename for Curt Connors. Maybe Sony wants to make secret the villain, like Fox has keep mysterious the Kevin Bacon's villain identity (X-men: first class) for long time.

This thing is just getting stupider as time goes by.

This better be a lie! wtf! Have they learned nothing from :-)hehe:snicker) swiss miss?! No original stuff. PLEASE!!!!

I was thinking the same thing as well but there's no way Irrfan Khan is playing Curt Connors. If Connors is in, he'll most likely be played by Rhys Ifan, as was reported months ago.

I'm guessing Annie Parisse is Connors' wife...?

I think Van Atter is codename.. Marc Webb wouldn't make up a villian unless he has a really good reason.

maybe Van Atter is a word jumble, and the fans are supposed to figure it out.

Maybe he's responsible for the death of Peter's parents. I don't know, I'm just guessing here.

SPOILER ALERT, SONY: You don't own the rights to call them S.H.E.I.L.D agents.

Proto-Goblin is Van Adder so they changed his name a little bit, I think.

:csad:

I'm really scared right now. This movie was looking so good...

Although...that could be hint towards A goblin...not that one specifically...hmm

I like that people are freaking out over a villain's name.

I'm betting that if it is really Van Adler from the comics, he'll volunteer to become a test subject for a chemical developed by Stromm and Norman Osborn. That chemical will end up being the Goblin formula but it'll be in its early stages so he'll be really grotesque and unstable. Then in the sequel Osborn will become the Goblin from Ultimate Spider-Man. That would be cool if Osborn and Stromm are in this film as themselves.

Oh man...someone on the comments gave me a great idea.

What if Van Atter IS Proto-Goblin...except, maybe he is Norman's test subject as opposed to another villain. I would love that!

Uck...if the goblin serum does that to Van Adder then that means that Norman will become Hulk Goblin :(

This is the Goblin form of Carnage and Venom
