Call me a noob if you want, I'm just asking, did Peter REALLY keep the fake black suit in his closet all this time? Or did the symbiote find him again? Or did he FIND the fake suit somewhere? Thanks for your time.

I'm sure we'll find out... But it's been shown quite a few times before that he always keeps one or two of these spare, and keeps them out of MJ's way.

He was one when he faced Morbius, in Spider-Man 12-13, and wore it again when he didn't have anything to wear, which made Eddie Brock snap and turn into Venom. They faced each other in the same suit.

But he seemed to lways have one when he needed it...

To be honest, I know a lot of people remember that he doesn't wear it out of respect to when MJ got totally freaked by Venom in his VERY 1st app. and Kraven going around in it too. But you know what? I don't think it's that much of an issue anymore, that happened as soon as they got married. MJ has been SO DEEP in his world by now, and has toughened up a hell of a lot compared to those stories 20 years back. Think about all the hell they've been through, much worse than the 1st time she saw Venom.

I really think that she'd understand if he felt he had to wear it...

None of the above, I think. I'm thinking that Peter is just using the Steel Spider costume to mimic the black costume. Peter would want nothing to do with a leftover black costume or the symbiote after all these years fighting Venom.

I thought Peter was just trying to keep in time with the pre-Spider-Man 3 movie hype and figured he could boost sales and word-of-mouth with donning his old black suit. Peter is no doubt going to track down the Sandman for a few battles just to tie his life in with the silver screen story.

Aloha,
And you thnk he would continue towear a costume made by Tony Stark that he knows is revealing information about him to the Pro Registration people? I don't think so. Peter always has a spare costume.

Guess not. I just dont like the idea of Peter having a costume around that is identical to one of his greatest enemies. It just doesnt make sense.

LOL... exactly. That's about the only good reason I can think of for him to wear that costume again.

That is quite possibly the worst art in a Spider-Man book I've ever seen. Peter looks like a Van Gogh.

Byrne had left the issue before. The work seen above is Erik Larson's.

Aloha,
Actually, the Black costume was worn longer than any other costume Spidey has worn. When he got rid of the symbiote, he still had a regular Black costume and wore it for a while. MJ hated it and like a good husband, he put it in moth balls. But yea, from now on, you can bet whenever Marvel can, they will be tweaking comic book story lines to match the Marvel movie.

Agreed!

Bryne draws alot better than that. I never really cared for Larson's work especially when he did Spidey.

in issue 13 he actually has to have the fantastic four remake the costume for him because he didn't keep it.

but after that, i'm sure he kept it.

Well, I have to tell you all, I REAAAAALLLLY LIKE Larson's work!

SO go to hell! HAHAHAHA! LOL ;)

But anyway guys, it's common knowledge that Spidey has always had one or 2 of those spare.

And I think that my comment still stands, that all the stuff in the past is in the past, and things change. As the saying goes, time heals all wounds...

Think about it, I'm sure all of you out there have felt strongly about something (like clothing, lol,) and changed your mind after quite a while later.

And to be honest, after ALL that he has been through after Venom, (Carnage, Harry dying, clone saga, losing MJ, Osborn coming back, Morlun, Shathra, Flash in a coma, Ezekial, Sins Past, dying and eating Morlun,) Venom was a veeeerrry long time ago, and lots of hell has happened. Not to mention that the unmasking, which as possibly started the darkest period in Spider-Man's life.

Choosing to wear the black suit doesn't seem like the biggest decision in the world anymore, and like I said, a lot has happened since. I don't it's that big a deal anymore, and with a few Spider-Men running around now, and Spiey changing his suits again, it seems like a bit of a plot point.

Remember, when Peter faced that same crook he faced at the start of JMS' run, in the STark armour, he did an interesting thing. He TOTALLY played on the fact that people thought Spider-Man had died... And he was something else, it proved quite scary, (to the criminals.)

I have to say, if JQ etc. have even the smallest amount of common sense, they'd use that to get Spidey's secret ID again in some way. Even though I'd hate ANY mention of The Other, for this reason I think it'd be worth it.

Yup...the above is Larsen's work. Larsen may be one of my fave Spdiey artists, but those fill-in issues sucked horribly!! I don't know what he was thinking.

As for the (current) Black costume's history, Peter had it remade in Spider-Man #13 by the Fantastic Four, but after his bout with Morbius, he kept it. He later wore the mask and gloves from the same suit during the Clone Saga....when he ran out of Red & Blue costumes. He refused to wear the entire black costume because his then-pregnant wife would have probably killed him, as Venom captured her and she has nithing but bad memories of that suit.

Later, when Peter thought MJ was dead, he donned the black suit in the issue featured above. He wore it only for one issue, and then he put it back in the closet.

Now, none of this is to say that Peter isn't wearing the symbiote or the Iron Spidey suit, but for him to get back into either or those two suits is just stupid on his part.

Larsen rules!! (I just hated his fill-in issues)

As for the Black suit, the only way I think MJ would be willing to let Peter wear it is if they thought his returning to the black suit would somehow confuse people. Perhaps, with someone ELSE wearing the Iron Spider-man suit, people would mistake that person for Spider-Man, and see Peter Parker somewhere else at the same time....and then see Spider-Man across town in a Black Suit minutes later...making people wonder if Peter Parker unmasked as Spidey just to prove the foolishness of a superhero registration act.

Just my thoughts.

After all, the solicits for SSM say that there are dozens of new "Spider-Men" swinging around New York...

I love Larsen's work, he is my forth fav Spider-penciler ever.
When he came back and did these three issues back in 2000 I got way excited! Personally I think his work on these issues was solid as ever.
His style had evolved somewhat and now had a more cartoony style, but it was stil good ol Erik.

Besides the first issue featured Spidey Vs Venom both in the black suits, what more could you ask for? #20-21 may have been a bit whatever but #19 was cool.

I think he should come back and do some more Spidey in 2007.

Didn't Tony say that when Peter came back in The Other, he burnt all of his costumes apart from the classic red and blue?

Despite my efforts to repress all memory of that horrid storyline, I think you're correct. He left him one suit to be "buried in", I think.

The new black is the venom costume...
