The other option is Sony sells it's film division, at which point the rights revert back. Either way, I think Holland might end up doing as many films as Downey or Jackman. He's enthusiastic about the character and shows no weariness of the role in interviews, like say Daniel Craig around the time of Spectre.

But the thing is did Robert Downey want to stop playing iron man? im asking as i really don't know. i mean Iron man is out, captain america is out, it sounds like Hawkeye might be passing the torch on. Black widow is dead and there may be a new Black widow. i dunno whats gonna happen with She-Hulk. the next thor movie i think is just to bring in female thor. the universe is progressing so quick. and Marvel are already starting a new phase with other movies. so when it comes to Spider-man i wouldn't assume he is the one to have studio armour to just keep going. even more so when it needs 2 studios to agree to keep that happening.

I know there is this idea that Marvel are only just starting with Spider-man and that there are many other stories they need to get too... but lets be honest, they will never get to half the stories that fans are waiting for. they are just zooming past plot ideas as fast as possible.

Yea but Disney/Marvel still has a vested interest in the movies doing well. If the movies tanks, merchandise sales will tank too. I don't know what the figures looked like from the MCU movies but I remember the merchandise sales for ASM 1 and 2 were drastically lower than the Raimi movies.

I ain't sure thats enough to support another studio in making big money. in the long run Disney can afford to do nothing and still make money from whatever Sony produce.

I could see Sony keeping Holland regardless. I also think Sam Raimi will return to Spider-Man in the near future. His relationship with Sony has been repaired and I think he's more confident in doing Spidey again than he was in 2010.

They could have Peter in college after Gwen Stacy's death. Bring back Emma Stone for flashbacks and Defoe could return to the role as a Norman Osborn in prison. Zendaya could be a comic book accurate MJ proper this time too.

Sony probably would keep Holland. its not like Sony have that many marvel characters compared to Marvel. so they really are just making use of what they have.

I think the spiderverse animated movie has opened a few more doors for Sony. ones they probably didn't realise existed until after that movie.

From what i remember in 2014 Downey seemed very open to do an Iron man 4. there was even a rumour Mel Gibson was gonna direct it at some point. Perhaps he changed his mind, but i always got the impression Marvel just was not willing to make a 4th, even though chances are it would have made a alot of money.

It wasn't just 50/50 on profit. They wanted 50/50 co-financing, meaning they are putting up half of the money to get the film produced.

Downey JR is the main reason - along with Kevin Feige why the MCU has made the amount it makes. Iron Man 4 is something that should have happened imo.

I feel like it was implied part of the reason Tony wasn't in the suit as much in IM3 was cause at that point Downey was getting weary of putting on the suit and from that point on it became more CGI. He wasn't on the typical six film deal, it was for a trilogy and the Avengers. After that he's salary skyrocketed and lately he's been pretty adamant that his Iron Man days are over. I think Holland will sign at least one more contract, 3 films minimum.

I think so yes. Regardless if the Disney/Sony deal continues or ends, I think he's gonna stick around. If at the very least a few more movies.

He loves and the role and when the MCU deal temporally fell apart he said that Sony still had awesome plans or something along those lines. Sounds like he's going to stick with it as long as he can even if the MCU deal happens to fell apart.

Yeah, I remember the awful rumour about Dylan. I hated it.
It got even worse when he got such much praise from supporters here. Just here at SHH. A bunch really rooted for him.

Asa Butterfield was in the mix but I read the final two were down to Tom and Charlie Rowe. Rowe congratulated Holland on Twitter afterwards.

I haven't seen any of Rowe's stuff though so I can't vouch for him. I do see a lot of praise for him though from the Spider-Man community, but at the end of the day he would have ended up with the same mediocre material Tom is suffering from anyway.
