Update-ish on release date....

Spider-Man is easily one of the most anticipated games of 2018, it's developed by industry veterans Insomniac Games and is a major exclusive for PlayStation 4. Sony has yet to announce an official release date but the game was expected to launch Q1/Q2 2018, but, according to a Swedish retailer, fans may have to wait just a bit longer.

The retailer, Coolshop, has listed the game for with a release date of September 28th, 2018. At first glance, this could simply be a placeholder date, but in most cases, placeholders are either the last day of the season or the last day of the year. It's also worth noting that this date falls on a Friday which is a typical day in the U.S for new games to hit the shelves.

God of War has a release date of April 20th, 2018. With this in mind, it is possible that Sony has saved Spider-Man for an Autumn release date, they wouldn't want their babies fighting after all and there is still no word about a release date for Days Gone. Sony has a lot of exclusives lined up for 2018 so it would make perfect sense to space the release of these titles out accordingly so that they don't cut into each other's sales.

this makes me think that this game is just not going to come out period. I'm glad I haven't bought a Playstation 4 thinking this was coming out soon.

I am still expecting October/November but I could see late September happing. I see summer at best and late September is just into fall. GOW is late April and this game is said to come out later so I think at best it would be a few months better.

Why this game has never even been deyland has when we first heard 2018 that was the first time we even got a year.

Majority of the time i will avoid story missions because i just like to chill and explore in an open world game. Just absorbing the scenery of manhattan. I'm already fantasizing about the ps5 remaster because by then the game will have reached its full potential in that regard and there are likely gonna be even more things to do when exploring

Retailers do not get release dates that far in advance. They get them with the rest of us (when Insomniac knows the release date I assume) or at the very least when they start producing the gold master.

Clickbait article at its finest.

Insomniac just tweeted that they visited the playstation HQ... gameplay should be coming very soon. when's the next big game event?

I hope when they're finished with this they make a black panther game

Hasbro is doing figures for the game.

I'm really happy that this game seems to be getting actual merchandise that isn't just stuff that could come with a collector's edition, that's really cool! Hope I can nab these when they release.

That's really cool!

They are 3 and a half inch figures, likely will be released as a 2 pack. That's what Hasbro did for Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, they did a wide release of a 3 inch Iron Man and Mega Man. It's pretty neat how we're getting figures for the games now.

Action figures for the game? Sweet! Marvel's really excited for this game, aren't they? Can't wait for more on this game.

I wonder if sequels are gonna be Ps4 exclusive also.

anyways I hoped that the story of this game could've been canon to the spectacular spiderman cartoon, instead it will be a new incarnation but I can't help but feel like that's a missed opportunity.

Why would it be canon to a cartoon that was cancelled nearly a decade ago, why is it a missed opportunity?

I'd imagine all Spidey games going forward will be Sony exclusives. They now own the gaming rights completely, so it makes sense they are going to use it to benefit their consoles.

If you read about the corporate reorganization that is happening at Sony, you'll find that PlayStation exclusives are going to be a major priority moving forward for the company.

Because the cartoon was critically acclaimed and being that this is a Spider-Man project with Sony input it could have picked up where the show left off

They are still partnering with Marvel on this, who would much rather do something new then pick up on a show that Disney had a hand in cancelling. It was never going to be an option. Nice idea, just not realistic.

This. If anything I'd rather a cartoon series that could be a spiritual successor to spectacular spiderman

Me too. Marvel should just hire Greg Weisman to create a new series.

oh, really?? Sony owns exclusive gaming rights to Spidey?

I didn't know that.

Marvel is probably fully aware that the spectacular Spider-Man was critically acclaimed. We don’t know all the fine details of creative control for this Ps4 game, but between Sony/Disney decision making I still think it’s a missed opportunity

Spectacular Spider-Man was a show from a decade ago that only went on for 2 seasons. It would not have been a good move to makes this game a tie in today considering that property hasnt been relevant in quite some time. Had Sony and/or Marvel revived it in some fashion whether it be comics, animated shorts or other content, then maybe but really, this game had little to no chance of being connected to it. It is for the best that it is an original adaptation that requires no prior knowledge of a show that most gamers that will play this, likely have never watched. It really wouldnt have made sense
