Truth be told, this is a tad non-newsy. But I digress.
THR recently did a quick item on video-game movies and got some quotes from a number of people ranging from Avi Arad (aka the guy you should be thanking for the Marvel movie boom more than anyone else) to Legendary Pictures big-cheese Thomas Tull.
One of the cats they spoke to was Columbia head Matt Tolmach who gave a brief update on the Spider-Man reboot coming July 2012:
"Tolmach also said he's excited but nervous about his company's upcoming Spider-man reboot, which he described as 'Peter Parker told differently.' He promised it will look, feel and smell different from the three films starring Tobey Maguire."
True, it’s kind of "No ****, Sherlock" news. Then again, some folks didn't like Tobey Maguire's tenure as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Complaints of the lack of wise-cracks and him being "too doughy eyed" were raised by some.
Personally, I thought he did a great job, and I think most others did too. Nonetheless, it's encouraging to know the studio, filmmakers, etc. aren't going for an actor just like Tobey.
Here comes Whiny Ultimate Parker
