Just a rumor...but an awesome rumor nonetheless.

"............Well, you see, I got an email from a bloke by the name of CHRIS, who happened upon an article over at RadioTimes.com which features a little chat with the beloved Jenny Agutter, who purports to avoid conventions like the plague. Anyway - she talks a bit about THE AVENGERS and here's what is said:
As for Agutter, she’s about to metamorphose again to appear alongside Samuel L Jackson and Scarlett Johansson in upcoming Hollywood blockbuster The Avengers.

“I’m sworn to secrecy! I wasn’t allowed a script until I got there, and when I did, I felt like a complete child being on big sets and a huge parking lot full of Winnebagos.”

She does let slip that two of these housed Spider-Man and Iron Man; we suspect Agutter won’t be able to avoid sci-fi conventions for much longer.
Alright. SO - was it just a brain fart? A bit of undigested gravy? Or has Jenny let slip a fanboy fantasy... to see SPIDER-MAN in an AVENGERS movie? I mean, it does take place in New York for a bit. Did Disney strike an awesome deal with Sony? How extensive would this cameo be? Is it even real? Did the reporter mess up? This will be one that will get discussed for a while. Right?"

A Spidey cameo would be great, but im not holding my breath.

To be honest; i'm more stoked over the fact that Jenny might soon be doing conventions. An AMerican Werewolf In London is one of my top five horror movies. :yay:

I don't see it happening either since niether Spidey or Logun for that matter are original Avengers

Exactly. If Spidey appears in an Avengers movie BEFORE Hank and Jan Pym, then that would just be criminal.

yeah lets get the FIRST bugs in Avengers before thinking Spiders

Of course, this is NOT happening. Sony would NEVER allow it. Especially not when they have their reboot coming out two months later.

She is obviously is one of those people who doesn't know much about comics or superheroes, so if she forgets the name of say, Captain America, her brain is just gonna say 'Spider-man'.
It is just one of those old granny mistakes, my old mum once described Smallville as 'that show about Batman as a baby.' It's that kind of thing.

I'm also thinking this wont happen....but personally I'd like to see it. It could be great promotion for the new Spidey flick.

They wouldn't even necessarily have to have Garfield for it either. Many fans would just love a simple nod or cameo to Spidey in costume.

I don't believe the rumors of Spider-Man appearing in Avengers, Sony has the movie rights to Spider-Man and Marvel will have to pay them some money if Spidey has to make even a small cameo appearance in Avengers, now Marvel are already making a big budget movie so why would they want to increase their production costs just to include Spider-Man ?

Disney / Marvel are already spending big money on the movie's promotion by having a Super bowl spot, which some other studios like Fox, Sony, WB are not, so Disney would like to keep the costs low and Not have Spider-Man in Avengers as they will have to pay Sony for that. (IMO.)

No. No. No. Why do people still ask these questions? Incredible!

Spider-Man, Ghost Rider and all of their villains and supporting characters are with Sony. The X-Men, The Fantastic 4, The Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Elektra, and all of their villains and supporting characters are with Fox.

Unless we have an actual announcement that Disney has regained rights to those characters from a credible news source, there is never going to be any reason to assume any of those characters will cross-over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It's an incredibly simple concept. Those characters are as foreign to Marvel films as Superman and Batman. Accept it, and enjoy the vastness of the properties Marvel Studios DOES have, and the possibilities open to a studio that has a library of nearly 5000 characters at it's disposal.

kang if you stopped banging your head for a second maybe you'd realize that nobody was actually "still asking these questions".

This is just a rumor and something to discuss for fun. Most people are already very aware of everything you stated, which is exactly what makes the news all the more interesting.

I thought that Sony still holds the rights to Spider-man. Does Disney own Sony? If not the likelihood of a Spider-man cameo is nil.

Correct.

Does Disney own Sony?
NO, Sony is completely different and independent company.
Sony owns Spider-man and its villains and other attached characters in Spider-man mythos.

If not the likelihood of a Spider-man cameo is nil.
Yep.

C'mon ......

Haha I read this earlier this morning, I didn't believe it for a second.

Basically what I thought when I read the article, she got the name confused.

This is most definitely fake....HOWEVER. What if, i mean what if there was a secret deal that Marvel made with sony like "If you let us show Peter Parker for 30 seconds in our film, we'll let you show Tony Stark or Steve Rogers in your film for 30 seconds". Or something of that nature...is that far-fetched?

Yes. It's far fetched. Sony would not want to run the risk of confusing the average movie goer as to who creates the Spider Man brand of films. They bought the rights for a reason and that is to profit on it's name sake. Not somebody else. Film characters don't work like hip hop artists appearing on each other's records. Not only that, but how do you even begin to price something like that out? If you've got Spiderman in the movie, it could potentially draw even more people out to it than before, given his A-list nature. Again, that to Sony is worth a ton of money.

The only way you'd ever see something like that happening are if Sony and Disney teamed up. Not a chance that's ever going to happen. That's too many "suits" trying to come together to decide how their franchises are treated. Marvel Films with Disney have the kind of overseeing power that they don't have with Sony.

Yeah your probably right, it was just be one big legal nightmare on both ends and ultimately probably not even worth it. Although, I'm wondering if, let's say there's a scene in Avengers where they show a little nerdy looking kid, thats obviously Peter Parker, but he is never explicitly named. Would that get them into trouble?

This, pretty much. As much as I loved how Avengers reformed with Spidey and Wolverine, and that's where I as a fan got interested in the series, you have to go with the original Avengers because that's how it is. You can't just jump ahead so many years because you want your two cash cows (as much as I love them) in the movie as well.

Saying that though I think this is BS and we're unlikely to even have a small came due to not only the legal issues, but I believe the people making the film are smarter than that.

Although if they were able to cameo in some way then it might be fun to have gag cameos in a similar vein to First Class. I don't mean the same joke, but as small throwaway gag cameos.

I like to add that if there were ever a movie to have both Spider-man and Wolverine (and a bunch of others) I'd like it be either an adaptation of one of the big comic crossovers or an original crossover story in a similar vein. Though that film might be hard to write or pull off.

No matter how much I want this to be true, it's probably not true. The lady probably just listed Spider-Man because he was the first thing that came to mind.

Though, if Marvel/Disney take action & try to remove the Spidey reference, we MIGHT have something here.

Yeah, I'm 100% certain this rumor is purely a case of Jenny Agutter not having a clue about Marvel superheroes. She probably saw a logo for Cap or Hawkeye or maybe even a Black Widow logo and just assumed it was Spidey.

She don't know no better.

Heh, maybe it's a super secret antman cameo.
She got her wires crossed on the bugs.
:)
