Spielberg may terminate Dreamworks/Paramount partership in 2010

I think he should stay with Paramount, as they own TF rights. On the other hand, he may feel more comfortable (in terms of money) with other studios like WB or Disney. But the question is, will they give him as much of freedom as Paramount did? I doubt so, as all they want from his is money and no serious costs. What about Universal, I suppose they're dying as a film studio, so it's getting for them hard to even distribute films of other studios. But it's all very complicated, so it's Spielberg's own decision, as we may not know a much as he does.

It can't be doubtful as long as he remains to be one of the best and most successful filmmakers in Hollywood. I mean, yeah, as everybody else he had his bombs, but their quantity just can't be compared with his hits'.

I remember when he dropped Tom Cruise like a bad habit

Yeah, but before he did that Cruise's Minority Report was a great sci-fi thriller and WOTW made a lot of money.

I hear its cause Paramount is taking credit for all the DreamWorks projects.

WB is a very director friendly company. Scorsese and Eastwood have done lots of work there, for instance. That's often the standard complaint about WB in these threads, they let directors pitch movies to them, like the Wachowskis pitching V for Vendetta and Snyder pitching 300 and Watchmen, instead of trying to force products into the pipeline.

It probably should be noted though that this really isn't about Spielberg (who has enought clout to win battles with any studio exec) but about Dreamworks which is more than Spielberg. Disney might be out because Dreamworks has an animation division that would have to fight with Pixar and Disney itself for promotion, release dates, etc. Sony, WB, and Fox are more likely because of that. Maybe MGM even.

Agreed, sometimes WB has more faith in directors than their executives, and that's the reason why sometimes they choose bad ideas pitched by famous directors (Speed Racer and Poseidon) over good ones by unknown.

Still, can't disagree here, because I also believe that DW is more of a rising entertainment empire than just another film studio under the wing of bigger company. And I highly doubt MGM, Fox or Sony will get it. It's more likely Universal vs. Paramount.
