Hi everyone, thought we could start this thread with Ragnarok’s Easter Eggs.
These are the ones that I caught (I saw the movie yesterday so perhaps I’m forgetting one or two:

- “Point Break”. As the thread’s tittle, it was a hillarious callback to the first Avengers.

- Thor hitting the Umbrella to transform, nice Donald Blake reference.

- The music. During TDW play, the chorus performed “Frigga’s death” music, and when Thor seated on his new throne, “Earth to Asgard/Thor Theme” from Patrick Doyle’s score for the first movie was heard. I really really loved that.

- The story about Loki stabbing Thor when they were 8 (which was freaking hilarious and had the whole theater cracking up) could be a reference to Jormungandr?

- Black Widow’s “sun’s getting low”, off course. Also every Sokovia and AoU reference.

- When Thor was about to meet the GrandMaster (Goldlum you are perfection), “Come With Me” from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory can be heard.

- The Infinity Gauntlet being fake pretty much confirma that the one Thanos has in AoU post-credits scene is real.

- The bit one Thor told Banner that Loki turned him into a frog.

- Brumhilde sacrifices herself to save Valkyrie.

- Not sure if it counts but at the very beginning when Thor is calling his hammer and it doesnt come straight away, its very similar to the scene in Iron Man 3 when Tony calls for his armour while his hands are tied up and it doesnt come for a while.

Probably I will remember some more after a while.

Sorry for my bad english! Not my first language.

No problem you've done a good job, I understood everything you've said perfectly friend.

The building on Sakaar with the various heads on it includes Beta Ray Bill and Bi-Beast [from Hulk #169].

When Korg introduces himself to Thor - he refers to himself as a "thing" - I assume a nod to The Thing from the FF since those two look very similar...

There's also an Ares bust on the Sakaaran building.

The Commodore spaceship has the Aboriginal flag colours.

Taika Waititi
“I wanted to fill it with a few in-jokes and things for Kiwis and Australians,” he said. “For me anyway, it would just ground me… so while I'm making this giant Marvel movie I could look around and go, ‘that spaceship, that's painted with the Aboriginal flag colours. No one else knows that but us’. And Valkyrie's spaceship has the colours of the Tino Rangatiratanga flag.”

When Korg suggests the "wood pitchfork" with 3 edges to Thor and then he recognizes that it is not that useful, only if 3 vampires where "huddled in a corner". What We Do In The Shadows reference.

I LOVE this Easter Egg/hidden meaning from ScreenRant in one of their 'Things you missed in Thor:Ragnarok' articles:

"There are many scenes that foreshadow the end of the movie, but none are as interesting as the foreshadowing shirts. In two separate occasions, the shirts Thor and Banner wear point to future enemies they will encounter in the movie.

In the beginning of Ragnarok, when Loki takes Thor to find Odin, Thor is wearing a jacket with two shirts underneath. The top shirt is green, while the one underneath is purple. Now, what character could that represent? Thor’s green and purple shirt definitely foreshadows his fight with the Hulk on Sakaar.

When the Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner, Thor gives him Tony Stark’s clothes to wear. The shirt he puts on has an image of a Duran Duran album cover. One of their hit songs is Hungry Like the Wolf, which foreshadows the Hulk’s battle with Fenris Wolf. In earlier released and leaked photos, the shirt Banner was wearing simply had a purple square on it, which means that the Duran Duran image was added later and on purpose."

Well that's interesting. I will have to look for that when I see it.

When Thor is being choked out and is asked what is he the God of.. throwback to Thor vs Gorr fight. There's another I can't remember

Oh yea executioner goes out just like he did in the comics til the death. The

Infinity stones mention of course.

The play felt like the the play from Game of Thrones a few seasons back.

The area Heimdall was in was likely the same as AoU vision.

Some stuff taken right out of the comics.

A Scarlet Witch reference. I think Loki said "I can't see the future like your friend the witch"

I remember that line as Loki saying "I can't see the future, I'm not a witch", and Thor replies "then why are you dressed like one?".

Yep, that was the line. There was no mention of Scarlet Witch, Loki wouldn't even know who she is.

Was Xandar mentioned? Could've sworn I hear Valkyrie mention it when they were planning their escape.

Thor bringing up Korg's race could be one just because we've seen one before which Thor turned to rubble pretty fast.

Yes i am pretty sure she mentioned it. And it sounded like she had been there before.

Yes. Valkyrie said if they went through one of the smaller, safer portals, it would likely take them to Xandar, and that from there they could fly to Asgard, but that it would take months. It's why Thor decides they have to take the largest, most dangerous portal instead, since it'd take them straight to Asgard.

Man-Thing as well.

The entire ending with Thor having one of his eyes ripped out and then becoming the new ruler Asgard is likely a reference to the Old Thor character, also from the Jason Aaron's run.

He said he was a big fan of the Aaron stuff he read for research, and it shows.

I spotted a Sakaaran soldier from GotG in the group against grandmaster in the end-credits scene.

There was also a reference to Valkyrie being paid in 'units', a method of payment that was introduced in GotG. Units seem to be a universal currency of sorts.

- The music. During TDW play, the chorus performed “Frigga’s death” music, and when Thor seated on his new throne, “Earth to Asgard/Thor Theme” from Patrick Doyle’s score for the first movie was heard. I really really loved that.

The scene with Doctor Strange also seemed to be a callback to the score from that film, complete with the sitar.

Another I just remembered. The resolution of the plot, with Thor realizing that he needs to actually let Ragnarok happen in order to win, is from the final Thor arc during the Avengers Disassembled crossover, though the context is entirely different (and in that story, he actually allows himself and everyone else to be killed).

And the hook at the end with Thor taking the surviving Asgardians to Earth in order to build a new home is the premise of J. Michael Straczynski's Thor run, though again, different context (in that case it was the Asgardians who'd died during Ragnarok being reborn on Earth).

If we're going with comic book references, there's the wonderful scene of Mjolnir heading towards Loki's head:

The Executioner's Last Stand:

There was also a great reference to Frog Thor. Surtur lighting Twilight was there as well. Really, Simonson goes strong.
