I think everything will be fine in the long run. The division is fierce now because the wound is still fresh for the fans who feel betrayed, but ultimately this movie represents some growing pains and the franchise will be better off for it in the long run. And for as many fans as they might lose, they're still bringing in plenty of new fans.

I would say Star Wars is still too big to fail at the moment.

Star Wars is at least equally strong as Transformers. It can survive even MB directing...

Yep.

And I think if JJ can deliver with IX, people who might not like TLJ now might grow an appreciation for it. It's a trilogy, the middle one is almost always seen (initially) as the bumpiest.
