Superman Returns Tops Saturn Awards
Source: Variety May 10, 2007

Variety reports that Superman Returns topped the 33rd Annual Saturn Awards on Thursday and "Heroes" took top honors among TV shows:

Warner Bros.' relaunch of the Man of Steel franchise garnered five kudos, including top fantasy film, directing honors for Bryan Singer and the top actor award for star Brandon Routh.

Pic's scripters, Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, took the writing award, and composer John Ottman received the best music award.

Well deserved IMO and i'm glad its won more awards, its won a hefty amount now.

Its a conspiracy I tell ya, a conspiracy. :D

Thank you for posting this. I'm glad it was recognised as well as the people that made it. Congratulations. :)

Well, if anyone tries to pull the "conspiracy" plot, I distinctively remember people saying that Singer´s influence was on the selection of the nominees, for the winners, that I know, he has zero clout... I´m gonna keep saying this till I die, if people stop looking at it from the pissed fanboy perspective and look at the movie for its cinematic merits, they´ll see it´s a good movie. I´m a bigger Spider-Man fan than Superman fan, and I think it´s an overall better movie than SM3. I have ten thousand problems with Batman Returns as a Batman fan, but I acknoledge that it can be appreciated as a good Tim Burton movie.

Totally agreed, i'm more of a Spidey fan as well, but IMO the only Spidey movie better than SR is Spidey 2

which category did they miss?

Other nominations included:
Best Supporting Actor: James Marsden
Best Actress: Kate Bosworth
Best Supporting Actress: Parker Posey
Best Performance by a Younger Actor: Tristan Lake Leabu
Best Special Effects

But kudos to the whole team for well-deserved accolades. :yay:

Bravo to Bryan and the team. Great stuff. I think Brandon's gotten about three million awards since SR, I'm sure his family and friends are extremely proud of him.

It was nominated for 12 awards, cant remember the categories.

Ten nominations (see above)

Previous wins by Bryan and his team include -

Bryan - Best Director for X-Men
David Hayter - Best Writing for X-Men
Louise Mingenbach - Best Costume Design for X-Men
Best Science Fiction Film - X-Men and X2
President's Memorial Award for Bryan

thats a great news!!

Btw, can someone please explain what Saturn awards are. i mean, are they important enough??

They´re the biggest "geek" awards, that is, the awards dedicated to sci-fi, fantasy, horror, action movies. It´s the place where movies like SR and BB are compared to their peers, instead of having to fight with "prestige", "serious" movies - such as, heh, Shakespeare In Love... - like in the Academy Awards.

The Saturn awards are a complete joke. They aren't even broadcast.

Oh and did I mention this is the same Saturn awards that nominated "Eragon" for BEST PICTURE! That was SR's competition.

This award show is a joke.

I see...so the fact that the movie garners some form of distinction despite other people's apathy towards it automatically makes these awards meaningless? I thought the whole "Showest Star or Tomorrow" thing was a bit funny when they awarded it to Brandon before the film was even finished...but it's been released, generally well-reviewed (something that can't be spun no matter how much one tries to vilify it) and is an integral part of Superman's 70+ year history. It's OK not to like the movie, dude...it's not cool to try and rain on the fan's parade though.

I for one believe this is awesome news considering they came out on top in an awards show dedicated to this genre...congrats to the team behind an emphatically beautiful movie.

Yeah, and the same "joke" award gave their recognition to Batman Begins, King Kong, Spider-Man 2...

The film has been accorded many awards from genre publications. I'm sure accolades from their peers means a lot to Bryan, Mike and Dan. :yay:

Yikes Eragon? For real B?

Yea the only award less important or serious are the MTV movie awards... SR won't win any Oscars or any award that actually means something.

just like how WB bought the best newcoming male award for brandon routh before SR even released.

Yeah that was a total joke! "Man of Tomorrow" how ironic that they call Superman that!
The WB paid to get him that award to give him some cred with fans, and it didn't work.... Im pretty sure that Singer's clout (which sadly he does have a lot) is why they got these Saturn awards...
