How are you planning to see this film, the old fashioned way or with all the bells and whistles?

If you've seen it please review the quality of the experience, just in terms of visuals not content.

Standard. 3D tickets are $17 around here. I'm not paying that much for a film I have such low expectations for.

I'm forced to see it in 3D tonight.

It will actually be the first film I've ever seen in 3D, outside of IMAX documentaries in museums.

Where you at, must be some alternative theaters around, I know I also have the one megaplex that just robs people but I can go see digital 3d at another one tomorrow for 5 bucks.

I'm in New York City. There is one way cheaper theater I have nearby but I don't think they're getting Green Lantern this weekend. I don't know if I'll see it in 3D even if they do get it. I was not very impressed with any of the recent 3D films I've seen. 25 minutes into Thor I even forgot it was supposed to be in 3D. I wear glasses too so wearing the 3D glasses over them just makes the experience annoying and uncomfortable.

The 3D looks genuinely great in all the space scenes, largely because they're 99% CG. The earthbound stuff looks like typical, run-of-the-mill, barely-there 3D.

It's something of a toss-up. I wouldn't dissuade anyone from seeing it in 3D, but it doesn't really justify the added dollars.

If I hadn't seen it for free, I would have certainly gone 2D.

AMC Gold Theater Tickets

Might I suggest you purchase the discount theater tickets (like the one shown above) that you can purchase at a place like Costco or your employee store (if you have one). The cost about $8 each for the gold unrestricted type and they can be applied towards the purchase of a 3D movie ticket. You would just have to pay the difference. You wind paying about $3 extra since the cost of a regular movie ticket (non-matinee) is about $14 depending on where you are (in essence you save $6).

You have to be a paying member to shop at Costco, annual membership runs around 50 bucks

That pay themselves off in free samples within the first 5 visits!
Or do like I do and walk through the cashier area and get into the store without a pass!

Pay for standard and then go see 3D. All you need is some glasses. Thats what I do.

But it isn't worth the effort if the 3d version is actually less enjoyable than the standard version.

I find the 3D to look better at. I am just too cheap to pay the extra seven bucks.

They usually have a someone at the door asking for your membership card

I would suggest seeing this one in 3D if its within your budget. The colors are so bright and vibrant. It's not used as a gimmicky format with things just flying in your face the entire time. There is a great sense of depth to the backgrounds and you get such clarity with seeing it this way. I say go for it if you can afford it.

I'll figure it out in about 45 minutes. It really depends if my friends want to watch it in 3D or not.

already posted this in the review thread because i did not notice this one, which is more fitting....

assuming someone comes back from a midnight showing, is it worth the extra few bucks to see it in 3D? was this shot in 3D or was it converted in post? the only solid thing that i have heard this movie has going for it is the CG/Special Effects, so i was wondering if it is worth the extra money to see it in 3D

Converted.

Overall, the 3D wasn't worth the money. Shots on Oa and in space were good but a good chunk of the movie was on Earth and those shots were just not good at all.

my 2d theater was packed as hell.... the 3d one next door on the other hand..lol

Saw it in 3D, and I enjoyed the experience. It was the first movie I'd seen in 3D in the theater since "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare." I'll be watching the 2D upon my next viewing, however.

I saw it standard. 3D was just going to give me a headache.

The standard/digital version was absolutely beautiful.
I'm a person who grew up in the 90s and I can certainly appreciate the level of CGI in this film, I guess other movies set higher standards but I thought this was just great eye candy if nothing else.

Both. I don't normally like 3D but I knew I would see GL twice, so I figured I might as well try 3D (didn't enjoy it as much as my 2D viewing...).
