Star Trek Into Darkness - Part 5

I loved it. I can't believe it was two hours long... felt like a lot less.
Thought it was, in some ways, better than 2009. And I adored 2009.

My favourite things from the new film:
1) Humour
2) Chris Pine as Kirk
3) Kirk/Spock
4) The Enterprise
5) Scotty

Oddly enough I thought Cumberbatch was going to be the one to blow me away but it was Chris Pine that really impressed me. He carried the film so well and was more than a match for Cumberbatch's menacing presence.

Can't wait to see what he does with Jack Ryan.

The only time he let himself down, IMO, was in the scene where hes facing Harrison in the cell (it was also a released clip).

Where he's saying 'I watched you kill innocent men and women... so shut the hell up' or something. He seemed awkward a little. But that is my only minor quibble. Otherwise, yes. He was excellent.

I know what you mean but I think it was the lines. They didn't seem to fit.
On the other hand, it was deliberately done perhaps?... to make Kirk look small next to this badass killing machine.
A moment of self-doubt but trying to pull off some kind of bravado?

Yeah. I do think the dialogue was just awkward. I say that. Because he was just superb the rest of it.

I had my doubts about them being able to match the greatness of ST:WoK but they were getting there and then what for me was the piviotal moment of the movie they have ANOTHER climax. Argg!
How I wish after the moment I saw (wont spoil it) I had just got up and left the cinema, because at that point I was going to give the movie a 9/10 but after they kept the movie going the impactful scene loses its weight and I'm checked out of the movie.

That moment (if it is that moment you mean) was such a waste. I still give the film a 8/10 (edges towards the 9).

I think you know the moment I'm talking about. Unnecessary and reminded me of the multiple endings of LotR. It's indulgent and without it the movie would have got a solid 9/10.

I know what you mean. It would've been a truly ballsy move if they hadn't undid that bit in the end and would've tied nicely into the [BLACKOUT]"at great cost"[/BLACKOUT] line. Instead, Abrams decided to go for the crowd-pleaser route. If there is one big issue I have with the film, that is it but it isn't big enough for me to affect its rating anything below 9/10 because it gets so many other things just right. I haven't seen any of the Star Trek films so perhaps my assessment of the film will be a reasonable reflection of how the general audience will perceive it as well.

I am curious to see Spock and Harrison's scenes together since they both seem to be kind of cut from a similar cloth. Unless there's more going on.

My point is that whole sequence was unnecessary. They had won the lottery from a thematic story telling stand point and throw away the ticket to play again with an indulgent action scene which (imho) completely lessens the impact of the scene that proceeded it.

I did like the action scene, but I do agree.

the fact that it was played so well, as if it was final, and then they pulled the rug the all is well... that was so annoying. They should not have played that card unless it was final IMO.

That's how they make their money though. As cliche as certain emotional triggers are, audiences fall for it every time.

But it's money they've already got in the bank. When you've got a big name franchise at your disposal you've got licence to chance your arm a bit more. That's why I can appreciate what Marvel did with IM3 even though I feel it wasn't executed well enough, they at least did something out of the box.
