And isn't he the only one that can? Doesn't he own all the rights and all that jazz?

He actually wanted Marion to be like 13-14 years old when she and Indy had their relationship originally. Imagine him rewriting that into the films. Then recasting Marion to be a younger woman to make it fit with that previous revision, then CGI Harrison Ford to look just a touch older and go Lolita on the whole thing.I like to think about what changes he would make to the Indiana Jones movies if he could.
"Make the rock bigger."
"More spears!"
"When Indy offers Marion a date, I originally wanted a big donkey to walk directly across and take up the whole frame. Now we fix that scene with CGI!"

The DVD's dont fit my TV.I guess the difference is Lucas doesn't really care what others think, he does what he wants, and that's that. I honestly don't care myself, it's not like each new version erases the older ones from history. Once I see the BR versions and if I don't like them, I can just go back to watching my dvds. It's not a big deal to me.

He gets away with it because there's countless Star Wars fanboys (and I don't use that term in a derogatory way) who defend him no matter what he does. I can't tell you how many times I've heard:
"They're his films, he can do what he wants!"
"The OT is like 30 years old, get over it!"
"Just ignore the changes if it bothers you so much!"
There's still a huge Star Wars fanbase who will jump on Lucas' lap no matter what garbage he puts into the OT. I'm sure if he added a scene where Leia reveals she's a man there'd be people who'd scream "BRILLIANT!"
If he tweaked the movies and then still released an original cut, like pretty much everyone wants, then I wouldn't care what changes he made. But he's such a stubborn prick.

I still can bearly stomech it.
I cant believe how serious some people get over a movie. Star wars ot if you ask me is one movie that can benefit from some changes. The technology just wasnt there to add some
stuff in the old days and you knew they had to clean alot of the cgi from 97 up to look halfway decent for this release.

And yet you are very staunchly defending Lucas' right to do it so you must have some idea. And yes, reality-wise most of this doesn't matter and wouldn't matter. Despite the horrible stereotypes most people aren't sitting in their mothers basements surrounded by Star Wars toys plotting the death of George Lucas for mucking up his movies. In reality none of us would care enough to have a 20+ page discussion that would last hours in real time to talk about.I cant believe how serious some people get over a movie.
