Star Wars Live-Action shows seek writers

Is this the show about the minor characters from Star Wars?

Yeah... In all likelyhood... Shaak Ti, Bail Organa, and Boba Fett will be the major players... frankly... I think that's all you need... and maybe another major player from the empire... Vader and Sidious won't be featured unless its a cameo appearance in a season premeire or finale... but I got no problems with that.

My guess is Quinlan Vos will be the other character.
I bet Smits will do it once his new show bombs.

If Smits isn't in this they might as well cancel it. His character single handedly spearheaded the rebellion... hopefully he is still in good health by the time they start production and appears every four episodes or so... but he's been contacted about it and expressed interest. They've talked about making it like four shows all into one... ie) one Episode would feature fleeing Jedi survivors... the next focuses on the rebellion... the next one on Boba Fett, and another one on the Empire, and continue that cycle. All separate stories of interconnecting events... I think thats the perfect way to take this.

Oh okay, I thought they were going to have like an open casting call for writers. Could you imagine the insanity that would ensue? Millions upon millions of fan fictions would be submitted.

They need to stop trying to show us every little detail that happened between the start of Episode I and the end of Return of the Jedi.

It should be more like Knights of the Old Republic. Set it in a time that won't destroy the "main" Star Wars story any more than they already have.

Other than a few minor mistakes here and there... the prequels were pretty much in continuity with the originals... I think they did a marvelous job linking the end of Episode III to Episode 4. From the rebel ship featured in the first scene of a New Hope to Owen and Beru holding taking their adopted baby from Obi Wan and to Vader, Sidious, and Grand Moff Tarkin overlooking the Death Star... those few scenes captured some of the magic Episode 4 had... the continuity was there. Secondly... we won't be seeing what Vader, Luke, and Sidious were up to in that time... it is about the MINOR characters, hence the continuity won't be affected at all. There is still SO MUCH time in between there... so many Jedi survivors... the birth of the rebellion... a lot of questions that need to be answered. Star Wars is Episode 1-6... until they make 7-9... the expanded Universe and events after Return of the Jedi should stay where it belongs... in fictional novels and video games... this is really the only time to do this show... this is the only time you can get the cast from the prequels back. It would be stupid to set TV shows Pre-Episode 1. These are TV shows first and foremost... they won't have the budget for crazy battles and light saber battles in a live action take... if you were to ever to do I live action series... this is the perfect time period for them to take place.

Get any writer from Buffy, Angel or Firefly up in there and I'll be happy. Smallville, Supernatural, Heroes, Lost and BSG would be icing on the cake.

Rick McCallum Talks Live Action TV Series

McCallum and Lucas were recently in London meeting writers for the Star Wars live action TV series.

“We want to be able to take all this technology we’ve developed over the years and make it accessible to everybody and try to make each one of the episodes [of the live-action TV series] look like a major feature film with all the production values and visual effects that you would expect in a feature but do it for a television budget.”

“We’ve met a whole bunch of writers from literally all over the world – we have Australia left, that’s the last place we’re going to meet some people – we’re hoping to get a group of six or seven writers ready sometime between September and December to make the final choice and then we’ll start doing story outlines. As I said before, it’s a much darker, much more character-based series, much more adult, and we’re hoping that it will go on for up to 400 episodes.”

“I think if we can get [the live action Star Wars TV series] right, it’s something that can go on for years and years. One of the ideas is that we’ll have multiple series going on in about two or three year’s time.

“We’re definitely going back to Sydney to shoot [the live action TV series] and probably June of next year we’ll start casting for it…I’ve had three conceptual artists working on it now for about seven months.”

Look's promising... but 400 episodes? The last thing we need is American Idol... one season a year... sixteen episodes... I know its network television but less is better when it comes to this stuff. 400 is just ****ing it out... they have a hundred hours worth already... that's what? 100 episodes... that's like 5 seasons right there... keep it at a low number.

It can work with 400 episodes because 1) Not all th episodes are focused on the same character 2) He might be talking about all the live-action series they want to do (he said "“I think if we can get [the live action Star Wars TV series] right, it’s something that can go on for years and years. One of the ideas is that we’ll have multiple series going on in about two or three year’s time.")

I guess we'll have to wait and see. It does sound promising...

Obvious parallels would be stuff like Stargate Atlantis... but the thing is this is only a nineteen year span we are talking about... obviously the Star Wars Universe is endless... but there are only a few things fans want to see... the Jedi purge, the rebel alliance forming, Vader's involvment in these events, maybe a little Han Solo and Lando in there, and maybe a couple other new/minor characters/stories here and there... but that's about it... nothing else will really bring in ratings... then you talk about setting up a show before Episode one... but despite what that report says... I doubt we will be seeing fantastical battles on television every week so I ain't so keen on the glory days of the Jedi and ancient Sith (unless its all digital like they are doing with the clone wars)... and they DEFINITELY won't go post Ep. 6 ever unless its a completely new set of characters but then there wouldn't be much of a point... I just feel this should be more like a mini series than a trivial T.V show... blow your budget away and keep everyone in tuned for about three years... then movie on to something else... I'd like them to keep it to three seasons four max.
