Yeah, Vaughn can't pull that "this micromangaing is interfering with my creative process" thing with the Mouse House. They won't stand for it. Even Spielberg wouldn't **** with Mickey.

I honestly don't even know who I'd like to direct it. No one mentioned has sounded right to me.

Disney Chief says we'll know the director soon:

Disney Chief on How He Kept Star Wars VII a Secret [Vulture]

KEY: Rumors have been flying lately that X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn will helm Episode VII, and Horn demurred from confirming the buzz, though he set the timetable for an announcement on that front: "I would say you'll know soon. And it's got to come from Kathy Kennedy — we don't have the company yet!" Still, Horn said that fans should rest assured that Disney has the franchise's best interests at heart. "We take very seriously the obligation to make a very good movie. Kathy is a very experienced producer; George Lucas is the godfather of that franchise and very, very involved on a consulting basis, so we feel very confident."

Whole Article:

Disney's got a lot to tout these days, and last night at the Beverly Hills Hotel, studio chairman Alan Horn threw a party celebrating the company's successful 2012 animation slate, which includes Brave, Frankenweenie, and Wreck-It Ralph. Still, if there's one accomplishment Horn should be proudest of, it's that earth-shaking acquisition the company pulled off last month: Not only did Disney begin proceedings to buy Lucasfilm (where Kathleen Kennedy will replace George Lucas as the head of the company), but out of nowhere, the studio announced Star Wars: Episode VII for 2015. How did they manage to keep that shockaroo totally secret until the bombshell press release went out? "We threatened everybody with a blast from the Death Star!" Horn told me last night, laughing.
"But really, I think everybody was mature about it," he continued. "It's important to keep these things confidential, so people just kept their mouths shut." How many people knew about Episode VII? "Not many. It was a very small group. Probably a smaller group than knew about the attack on bin Laden!"

In fact, Horn has been a huge Star Wars fan since the first installment was in theaters. "In 1977, I saw it at the Avco on Wilshire Boulevard — unlike most people here, I was probably in my early forties then," he said. "I remember racing home and thinking, What am I doing? Why am I driving a hundred miles an hour down Wilshire Boulevard? But I was so psyched by the film, so I remember it very well. Where were you? In kindergarten?"
"Not yet born," I replied.
He made a face.
I asked him what he was proudest of this year: the Lucasfilm acquisition or the big-screen career of his daughter Cody, who played Channing Tatum's love interest in Magic Mike. Horn chuckled. "I feel proudest always of my family, including my other daughter, who graduated just a few months ago from Stanford, and my wife. But I'm most proud of the fact that I've been allowed to join this fabulous company."
And why not? Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Pixar, there's nothing left for any other studio!
"That's our plan," he laughed.

I still think it will be someone Lucas liked work wise. Creative Consultant. What does that mean to a person like Lucas. What they gonna do Disney tell the Godfather of SW to leave.
Consultant just sounds like he will be helping effects like he did with 5 and 6.

What's interesting is that Deadline heard it, and Indiewire heard the rumor as well, so there might be some traction.

And I ask myself "Was it a mistake for Warner Bros to sack Alan Horn?"

Fincher seems like such an odd choice for Star Wars, but he's obviously a great director so I wouldn't object.

Favreau would be great, IMO.

Creative Consultant. What does that mean to a person like Lucas.
Well, my perception of that would be that they ask him about the worlds, species, how certain things work in a galaxy, far, far away and like u said, maybe things having to do with effects, and to hand his advice to the director if he choses it, kind of like a walking SW encyclopedia :oldrazz:... stuff like that. Since he created the world, he has a good insight in that sense. But who knows what that really means.

Fincher is a fine director. Eve if SW wouldnt be what we would expect from him, i'm more than willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, if he's indeed chosen.

I think Fincher would work, not my first choice, and I know he's a great director so he will do fine.

However I do find it ironic (not really since this is the Hype/Internet) that some hiss and moan about Nolan, but not Fincher. Nolan has done more action/adventure epics then Fincher has ever done. Honestly it would seem Fincher would be more a fish out of water than Nolan, since he at least has worked with giant action franchises before. To me they are one and the same, very gritty dark story tellers. Both excellent in their craft.

However, I think that Fincher would make it work, I actually would not be worried with him or Nolan at the helm. They have not done anything like this but with their superb skills I think they could easily tell a different kind of story that neither have really attempted. Fincher is one of my favorite directors though. So I'd be excited. Though it does not seem like the obvious choice.

But I hope they announce this soon lol.

Fincher's one of my favourite directors, possibly #1. But it does seem like a strange choice. I wouldn't have thought it possible, even though he did go through my head. When I think of what it'd look like, I see Blade Runner in the lower levels of Coruscant.

If Fincher got this, I would be doing backflips. Now that is someone I would get excited for.

With Favreau, I would support him. I do think since he is a fan, he knows he has to bring his best to this. Listening to him talking about the first IM on the special features showed he thinks about really interesting things.

And I answer myself: "Yes."

I agree with you about the rumor having some traction. I've been predicting Fincher for weeks now, so I hope I'm right. :-D

Does Fincher have the spirit of adventure, though?

He ****ing will for this. He'll certainly bring a different feel to it which would be interesting.

See I agree, but that kinda upsets me some just "poo poo" that Nolan could do the same. Nolan has done much more grand scale action and so forth. I know some get worried about some of his flaws, but now that Wally is no longer with him, you could see a much different visual Chris. On top of that, Nolan has improved in his action, his vehicle chases were always top notch, and the first Bane vs Batman fight was his best fight yet. Then it kinda went down hill on the second Bane vs Batman fight again. But I think he's improved. As for some that worry of his over exposition, he would not be writing the script. But I think Fincher and Nolan are both in my realm of hell yes, but it does seem like a different/odd choice.

I just wonder with Horn behind this, if he will push for Nolan, though I'd rather Nolan/Fincher (likely Fincher) to work on the second act, since usually in the typical hero's journey the second act is the darkest, and more ambiguous in terms of what's good/evil.

Though I'm giddy to hear what they have picked. Because you know they probably got this locked in lol. They revealed the writer early I hope they do before Christmas as who will be the director.

On a side note how awesome would it be to have Roger be the cinematographer for Episode VII. That would be a spectacle.

Fincher is that guy that you don't think would be good for the movie, yet somehow he would be perfect. Someone who has a solid grasp on storytelling and taut direction.

Was it every two Friday's they've been giving us news on the film? (with those videos of George).

Irvin Kershner wasn't he kinda low key director like Fincher. Sometimes the best director is not a fan boy but someone who can get the best from the actors.

Exactly. I mean, almost everyone on that set is going to be a huge SW fan. I believe that among all those people you'll get a great script, production process, etc.

I think it's important for the director to be able to come in, read the script, understand the characters, have a plan for shooting, and do it efficiently.

Of course, in my opinion the most important thing is keeping Lucas away from the script and set.
