Like I've been saying my money is on Favreau, and quite frankly I think he can do well with it. Would he be my first choice? No. Would I be disappointed? Absolutely not, he's a more than capable director IMO

Fincher's Star Wars would be VERY interesting to see. So if we get either of these two I'm happy.

Fincher is one of my favorite directors of all time, but nothing about his style has ever made me think he'd be ideal for Star Wars.

Well that doesn't mean he will keep his same style from his other films and apply it to SW. Like Nolan, he's a smart guy and would realize what he would have to do. Now with either guy we would still see their stamp of style on it somewhat, but applied to SW. That's what makes it a bit more exciting. With either directr, I could see the first footage and say, "This is SW, but it's unlike anything I've ever seen before."

Now I think Favreau would make it feel more consistent, and I'd be okay with that too. He'd have my support.

Right now, I'm down for Nolan, Fincher, and, especially Vaughn, since he's the most likely to be chosen at this point.

TBH, I'd be cautiously optimistic with Favreau. Sure, IM was good, but IM2 and Cowboys and Aliens were extremely pedestrian. I don't want to base my preference for a director on a film this important on someone who's really only made one good film.

Elf was a good film, so was Zathura IMO, so I'd say Favs has 3. How would you guys feel with a director like Doug Liman?

Yeah, but Elf kinda hardly compares to SW-level goodness. :o

My point was Favs has more than one. Verbinksi is my dream choice, then Blompkamp, and Kosinski. None of them have been rumored, of the choices we have heard I rather like Favs

Yeah, and my point is, while he's made some good ones, they're all not super fitting to SW's tone.

Personally, I d think Vaughan fits that description pretty perfectly. He's done comedic and colorful (Kick Ass), he's done mature quasi-political actioneer (XMFC), and he's done straight up fantasy (Stardust). If you combine all of these elements together, you pretty much have Star Wars exactly.

at this point we're all just a little anxious to hear some news. Me go kray-kray.

BTW:Personally I think the Kasdan/Kinberg news was meant to be released (properly) much later than how we got it.

I actually prefer Favs over Liman, who is coming off as generic and inconsistent these days. While Favs isn't faring any better I always feel like his heart's in the right place.

What I find strange is that the Little Missue Sunshine guy is only writing the first.

To me, it'd make much more sense if he wrote all three, and Kazdan wrote some of the spin off movies.

Well, that's the best case I've heard for Vaughn yet. Still, I'd prefer Nolan, Fincher, Cuaron, or Blomkamp for their more interesting camera work.

Yes, but it was still a rather muted film. Both visually, and thematically.

Benjamin Button has the right tone for an individual SW movie. Sad, but inspiring and ultimately uplifting.

watch

Let's not forget the Halo 4 trailer David Fincher was involved in...

If these movies go deeper into the SW Underworld (Hutts/Falleen, etc...) I could see Fincher's style really matching the material. It could also go well with whatever Dark Side villain we get this time around (no more Sith--make it a different type of Dark Side user).

Plus, I just like imagining Brad Pitt in a SW film--or Leonardo DiCaprio.

Yeah, I think Fincher would be much better suited for a side film than a main episode.

Considering we don't know the story of EP. VII, this could be that side film you mention.

Honestly, most Star Wars fans love the "used future" look of the originals and I think Fincher could pull that off. I think my favorite choice is Vaughn.CConn presented really solid points as to why he would be great fit.In a perfect world it would go like this

Episode VII-Jon Farveau
Episode VIII-David Fincher
Episode IX-Matthew Vaughn

Boba Fett spin off-Joe Johnston

There NEEDS to be a Young/in his prime Han Solo spinoff.

Wonder if Fincher would use Trent Reznor for the soundtrack. I bet he could good do some pretty cool stuff with the original SW music.
