The Force Awakens Star Wars VII Director? - Part 1

I have a theory that Disney/Lucasfilm already has a director set but they had to wait to make sure the purchase went through and it did. The purchase by Disney was cleared by the Feds and now it's completely official, hence why I think we will be more news for Star Wars from this point on (director, release date, etc). They were just waiting.

Possible.

Alan Horn's wording in that Vulture piece suggested they had their director.

It's very possible, considering how long this was in the works. Hopefully we will get more news soon :woot:

Despite the denials made, I'm still thinking Matthew Vaughn is very high in the running.

The only detractor is Kennedy saying the director would be someone she worked with before, and I don't believe they have actually done a project together yet. But some comments made are pretty strong in his favor.
They haven't. He hasn't even worked with ILM before. This brings Favreau back for me - they've got a few links here and there and he's got experience with Disney more specifically.

Has it been two weeks since that last news?

Isn't that the norm...

Well so did I. But ask yourself, was Taylor Kitsch the main reason why you liked it?

So what directors have worked with Kennedy in the past besides Spielberg and Lucas that might be options? Let's see...

Robert Zemeckis
M Night Shyamalan (:down)
Gary Ross
Joe Johnston
David Fincher

Looking at her IMDB page, I don't see a Favreau movie she's produced, but maybe I'm just missing it? Of course, I'm not including ILM since she's not credited with them, but I suppose that could apply, too. Of that list, the only two likely candidates seem to be Johnston and Fincher (only because of that rumor, lol), imo.

He's not doing Star Wars. I think he already came out and said that.

how about Neill Blomkamp for Star Wars?

If I was willing to pay money to get Kosinski before, I want to give my left ball and kidney now.

I get why the studio may be iffy based on TL's BO gross, but the guy's visuals are beyond amazing and he's not writing the script, so I really don't see why not.

I wouldn't have minded Kosinski based on Tron Legacy alone. But after the Oblivion trailer, I'd give Gianakin's right nut and kidney too.

I'll give you both my nuts. And then feed you to the goats.

There's more to good directing than visuals. And IMO, Kosinski has demonstrated no feel for pacing, emotional beats or directing actors so far. I thought Tron Legacy was was a pretty, but otherwise damn near abysmal film. It was totally lifeless to me. If Oblivion is better than that, good for him, but right now? I want Kosinski staying far away from Star Wars until he demonstrates a knack for something other than pretty pictures.

I will strongly disagree with almost everything you said.

So you're feeding your own nuts to the goats? :funny:

Agreed to some degree. I don't know how he is at directing actors because I find Hedlund to be a s****y actor so it's not like he could help him that much. Wilde was okay and the others weren't bad.

I do definitely agree that Tron Legacy's weak pacing was a central problem.

Honestly, I think there are better, more proven young directors than Kosinski.
