Stardew Valley comes to console next week, updates multiplayer progress

December 6, 2016 12 Comments

Chucklefish Games announced today that adorable farm sim Stardew Valley is destined for console, and soon: It launches on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next week with preorders already up, coming full circle back to its Harvest Moon roots.

Why cover this here? Earlier this year, Stardew creator Eric Barone revealed he was working on a co-op multiplayer mode for the game, originally planned for the 1.1 patch. That patch landed in October, bringing with it new farm maps, new spouses, new buildings, and new crops, as well as brewing… but no multiplayer.

“Multiplayer is still under development,” Barone posted just five weeks back. “I know it’s taking a while, but it should be worth the wait.”
In the meantime, there’s a mod for that — literally. Modders have crafted a plugin called Makeshift Multiplayer as a “temporary solution” until the functionality is baked into the main game. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go download all the Stardew Valley mods.

Stardew Valley Vita Port Under Investigation. January 19, 2017 . 8:30am

ConcernedApe is looking into the possibility of a PlayStation Vita version of Stardew Valley. In addition, the Nintendo Switch version of the game will be released in 2017.

Last year, when Stardew Valley’s PlayStation 4 launch date was announced, Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone said on the PlayStation Blog that he was “very, very interested” in a PlayStation Vita version of the farming game. Now, a month later, the possibility of a port has come up again. In a state of Stardew Valley update on the game’s official site, Barone addressed the PlayStation Vita again. His exact quote is, “We are currently investigating the possibility of a PS Vita port.”

In addition, updates on other versions of Stardew Valley were provided. Stardew Valley will not be a Nintendo Switch launch title, but it will come to the system in 2017. A PlayStation 4 and Xbox One patch is planned for next year, addressing an unloadable save file issue and other problems. The Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Russian, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese are currently going through private testing and an open beta test for the localizations will appear on Steam in early February 2017. Finally, the cooperative multiplayer feature is still in development.

Stardew Valley is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will come to the Nintendo Switch in 2017.

Stardew Valley will no longer be limited to a PlayStation Store and Xbox Store exclusive. 505 Games is working with ConcernedApe to put together physical copies of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the farming simulation in North America. Previously, 505 Games worked to release physical copies of the console versions Rocket League and Terraria.

People will be able to find physical copies of Stardew Valley in stores in early 2017. They will cost $29.99 each. Digital copies of the game cost $14.99 on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.

[FONT=&quot]Everyone's favorite Harvest Moon successor, Stardew Valley, has been announced for the Nintendo Switch. Not only this, but the long-awaited multiplayer mode will also debut on the Switch version first.
Coming this summer, the Switch version of Stardew Valley will include the latest version of the game, 1.1 which adds new features to the game including new romance options and new items. We knew the game was skipping the Wii U and heading to the Switch, but no further details were revealed until now. We don't have a solid release date, but Summer 2017 was quoted as the launch window.
The multiplayer feature seems to include new things to do, but details have been slim as of yet. This was announced during the Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase with more details promised in the future.

Stardew Valley launches boxed console collector’s Editions, still no sign of multiplayer

April 11, 2017 One comment

Adorable retro sandbox Stardew Valley is releasing a boxed collector’s edition today. Expect the original game, plus a soundtrack disc (hey Justin), a guidebook, and a map. OK, the map part is pretty cool. Chucklefish’s posted price is $29.99 on both core consoles in North America, with rollouts across the global later this week.

The main reason we keep an eye on Stardew Valley is that it’s been planned for multiplayer for over a year now, but it’s taking foreeeeeever. It was meant to launch in October with the 1.1 patch but didn’t.

In December, console launches came and went. In February, Stardew creator Eric Barone revealed the game will land on the Switch, and indeed the Switch will see multiplayer after PC and before the other consoles — but still not soon. The update won’t even be ready in time for summer, Chucklefish said at the time.

And so… we wait. Welp, here’s a new trailer to tide you over at least.

Stardew Valley is coming to iOS via the App Store on October 24 for $7.99 / £7.99 / €8.99 with no in-app purchases, and to Android via Google Play at a later date, developer ConcernedApe announced.

The smartphone version, which is being ported by London-based studio The Secret Police, is the full game and plays almost identically to other versions, only rebuilt for touch-based gameplay with a new user interface, menu systems, and controls. It will include the single-player content of the version 1.3 update, such as the Night Market, but not multiplayer.

PC users will be able to transfer their save data to the iOS version via iTunes. However, as mods are not supported by the smartphone version, any save data transferred containing mods may cause compatibility issues.
