Stargirl The Stargirl News and Discussion Thread

Just heard about this. Could be fun if they get it right.

According to Elseworld, she's dead now. :p

Guess it's not just a Stargirl series anymore.

It was said from the get go that there would be a JSA element to the show.

Star girl is shaping up to look like a JSA series. I hope they include Powergirl and Jay.

He was the dad on Hill House?

Geoff Johns, a legend at DC Comics, is bringing a personal favorite to life on the DC Universe channel in the form of the Stargirl series. We have been getting casting news here and there for the past two weeks as production will be taking place sometime in 2019.

With filming coming up, That Hashtag Show is proud to present some exclusive information on more characters who are currently being cast as well for Stargirl. While many of them have non-DC names, we believe several of them could be additional members of the Justice Society of America!

First up, we can confirm that Courtney Whitmore’s mother “Barbara” is being cast for the series, as they’re looking for a Caucasian actress who is somewhere between 35-49 years old. In addition to that, Pat Dugan, Courtney’s step-father and better known as the superhero S.T.R.I.P.E. in the comics, is being cast too. Both of these roles will be series regulars on Stargirl.

Next up we have the love-interest for Courtney, named “Matt Kenner.” The casting department is looking for an 18 year old to play 15, who is of mixed ethnicity (Half Caucasian.) “Matt” is described as a friendly, adorable, and a nervous artist who is still trying to figure out being a teenager. Through his inherently good nature, “Matt” is staying on track towards a good path despite the fact that outside influences may try to lure him towards the wrong one.

While we couldn’t put a DC name to this one, it wouldn’t surprise us if “Matt” is a relative of a Justice Society member. Be sure to let us know in the comments below who you think he might be!

Next up, we have “Sean Miller”, a recurring guest star character who is a Caucasian male in his 40s. Described as an uber-jock, “Sean” is the owner of a trophy shop, selling only first place trophies as he has no care for participation ribbons. Despite his intensity and competitiveness, “Sean” loves hanging out with his gang, but not as much as he loves being with his wife and daughter, the two most important people in his life.

We also have his wife “Ali Miller”, an Asian-American in her 40s who will be a recurring guest star as well. Described as an amusing, but yet energetic soccer mom, “Ali” is the gym teacher for the high school and loves being able to guide her students to become future winners. But her biggest love in life is her daughter Kerri, who is similar to her mother and is the star athlete of the school.

We believe “Sean” and Ali” are none other than Johnathan Chambers and Libby Lawrence, a.k.a. Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle! Should they be the romantic JSA couple, it could mean that “Kerri” is none other than Jesse Chambers a.k.a. Jesse Quick, who we have seen on The Flash played by Violette Beane.

Next up, we have “Scott Weber”, a Caucasian male in his 40s who will be a recurring guest star. “Scott” is described as a vicious supervillain who is a telepath which has made him into a horrifying force to be reckoned with. He enjoys executing the evil and personal punishments that he inflicts upon his victims when “Scott” is inside their minds. However, “Scott” isn’t only a supervillain, but also a father to a son who he cares for deeply and has big dreams for.

“Scott” sounds like none other than Henry King Sr. a.k.a. Brain Wave who was a JSA villain in the older comics. If this is Henry King Sr., then that would mean that his son is Henry King Jr. from the comics.

Next up, we have “Dr. Draven”, a male in his 40s for which the casting department is looking for a Pacific Islander/Asian-American to portray the recurring character. He is viewed as a ruffled scientist, due to him working outside the standard medical and ethical guidelines. “Dr. Draven” was badly scarred by his own experimentations as he is now forced to cover his face constantly. Currently, “Dr. Draven” is operating somewhere in a mysterious laboratory where he conducts sadistic and electrifying experiments as well as surgeries on a handful of innocent individuals.

We believe there is a possibility that “Dr. Draven” is the baddie Johnny Sorrows, a villain that Geoff Johns and David S. Goyer created back in 1999.

Last, but not least, we have “Arthur Matlock”, who is a male in his mid-30s, who would be a guest star. Described as a powerful man, both through physique, mind, and heart, he is a kind individual who is quick with his fists whenever it is necessary. That also allows him to be a great husband to his wife Ruth and a great father to his baby son Ben.

While this one we’re entirely certain on, we think there is a chance that “Arthur” could be Alan Scott a.k.a. the Golden Age Green Lantern! Since this will be the third time that we see the JSA in live-action, might this finally be the time where we meet the Golden Age version of Green Lantern?

EXCLUSIVE: 'STARGIRL' Breakdowns Teasing More Justice Society Members!

‘Stargirl’ Casting: Meet Three Members of Injustice Society

The Injustice Society has recruited its first three members: The actors taking on the roles of Tigress, Sportsmaster and Dragon King on the upcoming live-action DC Universe series Stargirl will be Joy Osmanski, Neil Hopkins and Nelson Lee, respectively.

The Injustice Society, a volatile collective of master criminals, dates back to 1947 in the pages of DC Comics where the group was the underworld’s counterpoint to the Justice Society of America, DC’s first superhero team. The vintage heroes and villains have a prominent presence in Stargirl, which will premiere in 2019 on the DC Universe subscription streaming site.

Joy Osmanski will portray Tigress. The official Stargirl character description for the lethal criminal: “Protecting and providing for her family, Paula Brooks hunts the world’s most dangerous game – humans – as the Tigress.” Tigress has comic-book roots going back to 1947, although she was called the Huntress in those days. She was introduced as the nemesis of Wildcat and was inspired in part by another DC’s most famous femme fatale, Catwoman.

Osmanski;s credits include work in recurring roles on Netflix’s The Santa Clarita Diet, Freeform’s The Fosters, Lifetime’s Devious Maids and Fox’s The Following. Osmanski has also guest starred on iZombie, Younger and Lucifer. Osmanski is represented by Kazarian/Measures/Ruskin & Associates and Bohemia Group

Neil Hopkins portrays Lawrence “Crusher” Crock, a.k.a. the Sportsmaster, a longtime enemy of the Justice Society of America. The Stargirl series description for Sportsmaster: “He sees his criminal pursuits as a game to win — and his competitors as targets to kill. The only thing more important to Crock than ‘the game’ is his family.”

The Sportsmaster first appeared in DC’s All-American Comics in 1947 and often used augmented athletic gear (e.g. exploding hockey pucks, rocket-launched baseball bats, etc.). He later teamed-up with (and married) the character that would become known as Tigress.

Hopkins is best known for his series regular work on El Rey Network’s Matador and his recurring role on ABC’s landmark series Lost in the role of Liam Pace. Hopkins is represented by SDB Partners and The Coronel Group

Nelson-Lee.jpeg

Nelson Lee portrays the mastermind Dragon King, a super-villain who hides his face and past. Dragon King is described in the official series notes as “a deadly and mysterious hooded man…this controversial scientist has been experimenting on himself and his victims since the 1940s.” The Dragon King was introduced in DC’s All-Star Squadronin 1981 as a former high-ranking scientist and occult expert in the government of Imperial Japan who, after WWII, experimented on himself to horrific effect.

Lee can next be seen in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Mulan. He previously worked with Stargirl showrunner Geoff Johns on Spike TV’s Blade: The Series. His other credits include recurring roles on HBO’s Oz, Amazon’s Sneaky Pete and ABC’s Ten Days in the Valley. Nelson also co-directed the indie feature A.I. Tales this past year. Lee is represented by TCA and Bohemia Group.

Something I haven't really thought of given this is separate from the other DCU shows, is this a period piece?

Since Arrow is stupid not to have used Tigress and Sportsmaster, I am glad Stargirl is using them.

This and Teen Titans are the shows i need to watch asap, cant believe the DC Universe platform is not open yet in my country, im ****ing ready to move on from Netflix to DCU

So this is not going to be connected to the rest of the CW-Arrowverse? They seem to be having a different lead for Stargirl.

More like them platform universe with Teen Titans and Doom Patrol, like a separate universe, i dont know if they are gonna connect those 2 with Stargirl and Swamp Thing
